I have a couple friends who are from NO and they are always telling me about king cakes. I just looked up the recipe and OMG I want one now. I even wanna attempt to make my own! I dont know when exactly is Mardi Gras so when should I try to make this???

Mardi Gras is also known as Fat Tuesday.

It is the last day of feasting, before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.

In 2012, Mardi Gras is on Feburary 21st.

All day I've been trying to stay away from the last piece of king cake in the kitchen and then I wander into this thread! :rotfl:

I'm curious about the POR. Which of the buildings at POR would you recommend for a secluded feeling? I'd like something overlooking the river. And how spread out is the resort? Would I be in walking distance of the main pool from anywhere?

I am amazed nobody has mentioned this so far (unless I missed this of course), but the NOLA theme is at French Quarter, not at all at POR. Ni beignets to be had at POR:confused3

I mentioned the beignets were at POFQ. I realize now that I did not clarify they aren't at POR. Thanks for adding that.

POR does have a southeast Louisiana theme of the bayous and plantation homes. When I read her post, I read it as going from home in Louisiana to the Louisiana themed resort.

Where'sPiglet, they're from the southeast part of St. Charles Parish. As for the 5 kingcakes, we have 6 adults and 3 kids going for 7 days/6 nights. But I love kingcake for breakfast with my coffee. And I'm going to pick them up from a teeny local bakery near where I live. They are heavenly!!! I also buy from Gambino's at times.

Cool. Ah, okay....I didn't realize you were going with a group of 9! I guess you may need 5 king cakes! I've only been here for a few years, so I'm still making the rounds to try king cakes from different bakeries. I usually just get one from Rouses, to be honest. They are good and reasonably priced.

Like a PP said, it's February 21st this year. But Carnival season begins January 6th (Epiphany/Three Kings Day), so now is a good time for king cake! The parades are primarily between Feb 10-21 this year.

Andre - I like how you posted a photo of the renovated rooms from both sections right next to each other. They both look so good!

Hi!
We had a 30% pin and booked POR - Riverview room and then noticed that a Royal Room and a Riverview room were the same price, so I've called back twice and both times the agents have said that the Royal Rooms don't show up for the booking and that I need to keep calling back. But, if I price out a trip online, the Royal Rooms show up. Do you know why it wouldn't show up when I call? I'll keep calling once a week, but I just don't understand why it shows up online but not for a phone reservation. :confused3

Why not just book online?

Perhaps they mean the royal rooms are not available under your 30% pin?

I don't think I can book online b/c I didn't know I had a discount pin until I called Disney to get a quote.

I'll try calling again tonight to see if the RR are excluded....I hope not. Our daughter would LOVE a RR - I would too princess: Still hoping for FD, but that would knock out our discount, right? We are booked Dec 8-15.

Thanks for the replies. This will be our daughter's first trip to WDW and our first trip since our honeymoon! We're excited :yay:

I wish I would have gotten my pins, I could have saved some money this year.

That is correct last year we booked with a pin later free dinning came out. I called and was not able to do both but it was quite a savings with the FD so I switched to that. This year we are on a bouceback offer and as of yet a better deal has not come out.

Yep gotta respect the fine print. Not to be used with any other discounts.
