Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread --- 2012, Part One --- NOW CLOSED

Just returned from WDW. Had such a great trip. Perfect weather. Port Orleans Riverside was beautiful and the Royal Room was fantastic. CMs were so sweet - and seemed excited about the new rooms. Anyone going soon is so lucky!

Thanks for the post...I needed that! We were slated for a 3-night stay at POFQ, but when our plans changed and I tried to add another day, there was nothing available! So, our only option was to upgrade our entire stay to a POR Royal Room with garden view. It was quite a bit more money, but I'm glad to see that the rooms are great and getting attention! :thumbsup2

Hey there everyone, I just wanted to catch up again.

I just got this from our recent trip, does anyone know if this is a pin code at the bottom usually (Where the red arrow points)?

It is five digits long.

I don't think it is. My friend got a PIN code recently, and it was very clear that it was a discount code. The PIN code itself was 12 or 16 digits long I believe. I don't think Disney would send out a discount code and not draw attention to it.

Some of their publications have a number at the bottom that indicates the publication date. For example, the Dining Plan brochure says 110211 at the bottom. The prior version of the credits list had an earlier date and it may have been only 5 digits.

I forget whether you have been to POR before, and so know the various routes? e.g. sometimes it might be closer walk over the bridge and across Ol' Man Island (more with the mansions) and also there are actually three external doorways into the food court (plus one internal).

Andre

I haven't been there yet. We leave in one week, so I'm getting close to contacting the resort for a room request.

I tried to use the best route for each building and the walkways that appear on the PDF map. There are times when it looks like you are faster cutting through the pool, but it doesn't always work out that way. The grid can't beat an actual measurement but should help everyone get an idea. Now, I just hope I'm not assigned to building 24! If I am, we'll just enjoy the serenity.

Here are the numbers I worked out a while back, I knew I'd kept them somewhere...

850 yards from POR ferry landing to POFQ ferry landing.
900 yards from POR food court to POFQ food court.
875 yards from POR lobby to POFQ lobby. (0.5 mile between main buildings)
350 yards from furthest room in POFQ (building 7) to POFQ food court entrance.
500 yards from furthest room in POR (Alligator Bayou or Magnolia Bend) to POR food court entrance.

We got a phone call from POR yesterday! They told us they'd found (my daughter's) sunglasses in the room we stayed in and were sending them to us UPS. I got those sunglasses at the dollar store, lol!

We have a RGR garden view for 4/4 - 4/9. I know it must be in Oak. Will on line check in really save me time?

I have to say I like your length of walking, rather than the previous minutes posted.

In today's society (I am dating myself), I do not want to know the exact minutes. I would miss the little things; that beautiful butterfly hovering around the Magnolia tree; how wonderful the quiet pool looks; the chatting we did on the way to the food court; and the impression of the leaves in the concrete around Ol' Man Island.

Do not miss the little things.

Does anyone know how soon they will have your room assignment available??:cool1:

We checked in on 2/15 and had our room assignment about 30 minutes or so after check-in. they did tell us the building, but not the number at check in. they did text the info as soon as it became available.

To all of y'all leaving this weekend--Have a safe trip and be careful on the road. Take lots of photos and bring me something cool back :lmao:

I was messing about with editing some video footage a while back, and this clip includes the one-minute walk from near building 14 to the food court:

Wow! I knew that building 14 was close but I had no idea/concept it was THAT close.

When we went last year I realy had no intrest or time for AB at all so we spent next to no time in that area. This year I put in a request for AB even though it's just the two of us because I love the look of the new rooms. I'm not sure I would want to be that close to the main buildings but it sure would be easy to fill my coffee mug in the AM waiting for DD to get ready.

I can't quite remember but I think the walk from our Acadia House river view was about five minuets. Does that sound right?

You are welcome. I just know you will love it! :wizard:

I read a lot about people getting a text when their room is ready. I must be one of the last cell free people in North America. What do they do if you don't have a cell? I'm guessing they just tell me come back at whatever O'clock.

Same thing when making an ADR on line you have to give them a phone number you can be reached at while at the world. Ummm... well if you need to reach me you can leave a message on my machine and I can get it next month when I get home...I guess.

They'll send a raven with the news - automatron raven, of course.

My 8 year old DGD can't understand why I don't do text and her brother 4 want to know were my Ipad is? Heck, my spell check doesn't know what an Ipad is!

To old at 64 to start now. LOL
