I read a lot about people getting a text when their room is ready. I must be one of the last cell free people in North America. What do they do if you don't have a cell? I'm guessing they just tell me come back at whatever O'clock.

Same thing when making an ADR on line you have to give them a phone number you can be reached at while at the world. Ummm... well if you need to reach me you can leave a message on my machine and I can get it next month when I get home...I guess.

Two years ago, I purchased a cell phone with a certain amount of minutes; something like rent - a - cell. It was a huge rip - off.

Last year, since I was taking a huge crew of twenty - somethings and I realized I was paying $50 a month to call my parents two miles across town on my land line, I made the plunge into the 21st century. I have never looked back. And I am 51.

I will be honest. The first few weeks, I would have thrown it through a window. I love it. I am not consumed by it; I have found the correct balance.

I don't see the need to text, so I guess we'll just take our chances when we check in that they can give us a time when it'll be ready or maybe we'll have pixie dust and know where we are when we check in. Our plane gets in around 5p, so hopefully when we check in, we'll know.:thumbsup2

OK, here is an update to the walking distances with the Mansions added and other random distances. Hopefully none of you use this against me and steal my room next week!

Your room will definately be ready by the time you arrive.

I thought about getting a cell phone but my land line is only $41 a month and I can call anywhere in CAN or US unlimited (most of my family lives out of town so this works out nicely). For the most part I'm either at home or at work. If someone needs to get ahold of me try one or the other if I'm not at either give me a 1/2 hour.

My DW has a blackberry and she love it. My DD has a pay as you go but it will not work at all in the US. Last year I bought two US TrackPhones for my DD and myself to use in DW. I charged them up and turned them on in Canada and now they won't work at all in Canada or the US.

I also have an iPod touch that I have on me at all times so if I can find a wifi hotspot I can use that to email, text, and to make calls. I'm not completely stuck in the last century I just don't really have a use for one.

Just checked in! Yea! Beautiful new room for 5. Very nice! Pull down bed is larger than I thought. So glad to finally be here. Already met another person from the boards!

My 8 year old DGD can't understand why I don't do text and her brother 4 want to know were my Ipad is? Heck, my spell check doesn't know what an Ipad is!

To old at 64 to start now. LOL

My dad will be 79 next month. In the last 4 years or so, he's acquired an iPod Touch, a Facebook account, Skype and a Blackberry tablet. :)

But he still won't text from his basic cellphone. :lmao:

Does anyone have pictures of the outside of the buildings where the new princess rooms are?? Would love to see them :) trying to choose which building we want for our honeymoon!

RR's are in Oak Manor and Parterre Place.

You can check this website under the resorts; allearsnet.com under resorts, or Andre's website as shown on the first page of this thread.

We are leaving in the morning and I'm starting to have that panicky feeling! What am I forgetting?? What piece of pertinent information do I not know and need to ask the world of DIS tonight?? I didn't make any room requests--should I have??

Deep breath--We're going to Disney World and whatever we do will be amazing so relax, right??

You got it!

The only thing I'd suggest is if you want to try one of the newly refurbished rooms, it might be worth requesting that before you set off, or just ask at the front desk when you get there.

Have a great time!

Andre

Here's something I've never seen online before - the original guide map for Dixie Landings that was only used for a couple of years. The paper copy which I've just obtained had been stored folded (6 folds!) for 20 years, so it took a bit of work in Photoshop to iron out the creases.

We are in a Royal Room so I figured there wasn't much else to request!

Look at the courtyard at for the banners and spiral plants and the fountian at night and the spooky faces on the trees and the special costume touches on the Housekeepers too. And the signs for the Linen Rooms, "Royal Staff Only'

This is neat, I can't remember if they had this in '95 when we first went when it was Dixie Landings. '95 was also the first year that we stayed "onsite" and we have never looked back at staying offsite again. I try to get a shirt with the year on it when we go on vacation (no matter where it is) so I can remember when it was we went. (remember they say the mind is the first to go):rolleyes1
