I just booked my reservation for Feb 08 in POR AB (family of 5). What building is best to request. I really want it QUITE and SMOKE FREE becuase my DD8 is allergic and DH is a light sleeper.

All rooms at WDW have gone non-smoking.

POR is a huge resort. Most rooms will be rather quiet due to the layout (not like the All Star rooms that overlook the main pool, for example). But you could end up with a room that is WAY on the far side to the resort. We had such a room and it was very FAR to EVERYTHING! Plus it was on the third floor of Alligator Bayou side where there are no elevators; a pain with strollers. But it was quiet!

I would personally request the Magnolia Bend side. It is more upscale (less rustic) and the building have elevators. I love the exercise I get at WDW, but I don't feel the need to lug my luggage up to the third floor, thanks.

Others have said they prefer the other side, but not me. On the other hand, if you have five in your room you will get the AB side, as that's where the trundle beds are located. Some rooms will overlook the quiet pools, and they will have some noise during the day, but they tend to not be very loud at night, and I think they are considered "water view" rate.

One problem I've had with many resorts, Including POR, is the AC fan going on and off. If light sleeping is really an issue for your family, do what my DS did and get a white noise machine or bring a small fan. The white noise machine works really well.

We were in building 25 in AB section. It was a little bit of a walk, but no more than 7 minutes from the main building. Our room faced the path to the bus stop, so never any traffic(we were by West Depot). Also building right next to quiet pool and laundry. I was very happy with our location!!!:goodvibes

We just got back from POR. We where in AB building 28. It was great. never heard any noise at all. I am also not a great sleeper. We never had a loud night

Was your room on the roof of POR? LOL! AB only has 2 floors so that must have been some view! :lmao:

All kidding aside, we recently returned and really liked AB#39. It was just a 5 minute walk from the main area/food court and just a couple of minutes from the north bus stop. It was very quiet also.

which side of the resort do you like better (AB or Mansion style)... ?? I have noticed that more families w/ children tend to go w/ the AB side rather then the mansion side... that said, bldg 18 in the AB is wonderful.. its a close walking distance to everything & yet it stays quiet... My favorite for the mansion side was Parterre place, it was wonderful... my dh had a quiet pool all to himself & the lake was right out the front door...

According to the UG the quietest rooms are bldg 26 & 28 in the AB...

Hope this helped...

Either side you choose the resort is wonderful... it is big... but there is nothing that this resort lacks... Its an amazing place. :goodvibes

Just got back from POR and stayed in the Magnioia Bend section in the Magnolia Terrace Building. It was very quiet and close to the main pool and a quick walk to the main building. I was very pleased with the room and the look of the mansion section. I had faxed the room coordinator 2 days before arrival requesting this section and got exactly what we needed.

Have fun!

We just got back and were in bldg #38 (near #39). We loved that location. It's very quiet and near a bridge that takes you to the island. The walk to the food court was 5 minutes at most, and it's a very pleasant walk.

For our trip March 2006, we stayed in building 16, it was great, very close to the quiet pool and laundry facilities...only a hop, skip and jump away from the main building.

for our trip March 2007, we stayed in building 25, it was nice, a bit farther away from the main building, but really close to the bus stop, and not far from another quiet pool and laundry facilities.

For our trip March 2008, we have 2 rooms booked and we are hoping to stay in the Mansion, preferably Magnolia terrace, or Oak Manor.

OP said that she needs AB due to having a familly of five! Look at a map,

but I requested bldg 14 or 18, because of proximity to the main bldg. However, bldg 18 was a smoking bldg before the the whole resort went smoke free, so you might want to request 14 . . .

Only part of Building 18 had smoking rooms in the past. We were in this building with a non-smoking room and had absolutely no problems. Even if our room had the slightest smell of smoke we would have complained. So really, everything was great.

This building is the perfect location I think. Very close to a quiet pool and close the main building and the main pool. All without being next to a parking lot.

Check out the map, you will agree!

We have stayed in building 39 for the last two years in a row. We love that location: quiet, close to a quiet pool, close to a bus stop, and not a far walk to the food court.

We stayed in Building 16 also in August and we loved it! It was a nice quick walk to the main building and it was far enough that it was quiet! I have to tell you, we requested Building 14 or 18 because I had heard these were great locations and I was really disappointed when we were placed in 16, but it was a nice surprise! I loved it! We were also very close to the main south bus stop, so that was nice too.
