Port Orleans French Quarter FAQ thread - Refurbished for 2011 - Now CLOSED

I've been an avid Disboards stalker since planning our first trip in 2009 but haven't made many posts. We just booked our second trip to FQ for April 20-27 2012 and I'm stalking this thread yet again! We did a split Poly/POFQ in Feb of this year and we fell in love with both. We're trying to do a budget trip this time so no deluxe. The obvious choice was the French Quarter (we've been to New Orleans many times since my parents met at LSU and I'm an avid Tigers fan!). We were lucky enough to book a garden view with the military discount and will only be going to the parks 4 days with a military ticket. The past trip was very much a commando trip and we didn't get to enjoy the hotel enough, so I'm hoping to make up for it next year. It will be surprise trip for my then 7 yo DD and 4 yo DS, basically picking them up from school early and saying "We're going to DISNEY WORLD!!!". Wish this compulsory planner luck in keeping it under wraps!

Good luck with keeping the secret for that long! It has been my fantasy to surprize my family, but now they are grown with jobs, committments etc... when they were younger and living at home I couldn't help but share the planning!

We haven't stayed there since they started showing movies. Are they still showing them? And if so, what is the rotation right now? Do they show a movie every night?

I'm not sure of the exact rotation, but I just got back from a weekend stay there. We were there Friady and Saturday night, and a movie was shown both nights.

I :lovestruc surprise reveals!!!!!

Good luck with yours! We are also planning one for our DS for March. A Disney cruise is in the works. Hopefully we'll get everything straightened out for it. We are also going to do the school pick up!

Which buildings are closest to main pool and/or bus stop, eating area? We're looking more at convenience than quiet for this stay. :rotfl:

Thanks!

Building 4 is closest to the bus stop, buildings 5 and 2 are closest to the pool, with 5 slightly closer to the hot tub. But really, we were on the far river side of building 7 in december, and we were less than 5 minutes from the bus stop/hot tub/food court/pool. When they say this resort is small, they definitely mean it!

Thanks for the reply! I'm only used to ASSp and it was pretty compact so I was starting to wonder what compact really meant in a Mod resort...

We are thinking about changing out dates to Oct 31st- Nov 10th. I was wondering when the Christmas decorations go up in POFQ?:santa:

It's our first trip to Disney next April and I have no idea what to expect in terms of size or anything, but I'm really looking forward to our stay at POFQ. We'll have 3 young kids with us and I requested buildings 4 or 7, so that we are either close to the main building or so that we're a shorter walk to POR if we want to eat or swim there, as well. But going by the posts, it sounds as though there are no bad places to stay in POFQ :)

I read on another thread that they go up after US Thanksgiving (I have no idea when that is). They were up when I went last year at the end of November.

That's the way it sounds to me too. I'm just going to roll the die and not make any room requests. We shall see how it goes!

You are correct, while we haven't stayed in building 7 before, our experience has been that no location is very far away from all the amenities, including the bust stop, which is so nice at the end of a long day in the parks.
Happy Planning!

We were there once for Thanksgiving week and they put them up Thanksgiving night I believe. It was a while ago so not definite, but not before Thanksgiving I don't think. Sorry

Does anyone know if you can ship UPS from the POFQ? I would like to be able to ship somethings home instead of lugging them with us on the plane.
TIA

Do they have the big mickey waffles at the food court? One of the things I must get on each trip is a large mickey waffle with strawberries and whipped cream. I don't really want the small child sized ones.
