Port Orleans French Quarter FAQ thread - Refurbished for 2011 - Now CLOSED

A couple friends and I were talking last night and one asks "So where are you staying?" I answer POFQ and the other friend says, "I told you to do that. COOL!!" So a referral from a friend who has stayed several times is what persuaded me to choose POFQ, and the refurb is just bonus.

I'm doing the secret thing too, or at least I'm really gonna try, so far so good. My dd is 7 so I'm not telling her until the morning we leave. For me, part of it is not hearing from her every single day about how we are going, lol For anyone that has kids they know how that goes  Also, some close friends are meeting us there and I was going to tell her about that until we see her at the hotel, my friend is doing the same with her daughter. Wish us luck on keeping our traps shut :lmao:

Good luck! I'm doing it as well with my fiancee. She thinks we are spending a week in Pittsburgh at some Octoberfest event I made up! I'm awful at keeping a secret as I lasted 1 day after I bought her ring. I've made it a few months so far. I'm very excited to go back and it'll be her first time. :woohoo:

Please post all your news, views and pictures when you are back fro your POFQ/WDW magica vacation. I wish everyone safe flights, car rides, nice weather, wonderful times and magical wishes.

We have 12 months till we go. :goodvibes

I booked our trip back in February. I wanted everyone to help choose and plan while treasuring the spirit of the magic. It was too far in the future. I got a "YES"; hug; and, "tell me when we have 30 days left." Ultra Violet.

101 days and counting!

Lets hope she doesn't try to research your made up Octoberfest :lmao: Good luck on keeping your trap shut too :)

Hello guys:thumbsup2

Reportig live (so to speak) from POFQ as I type midway through a 14 night stay. I have finally succumbed and paid the $9.95 for 24hrs of internet access - despite trying to leave it alone.

The resort i very small and superbly clean and can only be described as picture perfect. To be fair, the Riverside resort, although much larger and more spread out is also excellent.

I am knocked out by the wonderful nature/wildlife in the area. Without too much effort, we've seen all the usual stuff such as squirrels, lizards, rabbits, but even the odd snake, as well as numerous fish species (apologies my knowledge of US critters is lacking) tonight I even managed to see a bat from the boat back from DTD! - I'm learning all about the birds from the resident Osprey, Buzzards, Hawks, - to the Mockingbirds, Cardinals, Chickadees, Whip-poor-will (I think they are called) - so much stuff to see probably giving away the fact I am a birder in the UK, but these are all new to me lol.

The food is plentiful, though we hve the QSDP - I will probably not use this again - not that it isn't good value, it is! but I prefer to self-cater and enjoy the odd eal out. 14 days eatng out every meal is taking its toll! - You can have too much of a good thing lol,

The rooms are comfy, beds are large, my only slight concern is the lack of wardrobes. I am so used to them, but there are none - other Brits have mentioned this too. As always everyone is so friendly with the typical Disney vibe very much in evidence. Concierge, staff - everyone ensure great service.

I am still unable to get my UK body clock correct. I'm up every morning before 6am! in fact, I have devised a couple of paths from POFQ to RIverside of 2.5 and 3 mile and walk these every morning, to at least TRY and shed some of those excess pounds the QSDP is hitting me with:rotfl2:

Not to worry - sleep is something I can catch-up on later (preferably at work haha) hmmm better stop as this was only meant to be a quick rundown!

Steve

Any specifics, feel free to ask and I'll check back on these pages.

I'm so jealous!!!!! I'm stuck here at work and can only dream. I was orig sch to arrive in Aug; but changed my dates to early Sept for the Free DDP and saved some dough!! More money for those cool adult beverages and for shopping of course.:thumbsup2

We are here too. Having a fabulous time. The play area is not under construction. Just have a few minutes, but wanted to pop on and offer some free water and Nutrigrain bars to the first person to PM me. We will be leaving Tues morning and there is no way we will eat/drink it all. Let me know.

Absolutely -- the wildlife is wonderful. I like to get up and look over the river and watch the day come to life. I love listening to and watching the birds. I keep promising myself that the next trip I will bring my binoculars and bird book. I saw a pair of otters in the river on one trip, also. They were great fun to watch. I thought about all those people laying in beds sleeping and missing out on this wonderful show. Mornings are the best. :thumbsup2

Woohoo! Today is 100 days until our next trip. The first few days are at Seaworld but we check in to POFQ on the 19th of August.

That's the reason I started the Free Pay It Forward at Port Orleans swap! :) It's a nice box filled with stuff disers couldn't use...so they use what they need, add what they can't use & drop it off for the next person. The standard items you usually find are water, ponchos, Tylenol, etc...

If anyone is interested in joining the swap, the link is in my siggy! :) Summer is WIDE open!

Can't wait for my first stay at FQ this November! Riverside is our fave resort...can't wait to trade it in for the smaller, more intimate FQ! :hippie: (And taco salad & beneighs!)

Steve,

Thank you so much for your nice review! You have seen a lot of wildlife. I hope you'll have the chance to spy a gator (though not too close, LOL) while you are there. We always hope to see one, but never have.

We're trying the quick service plan for the 1st time in August. It's nice that there are a lot of options beyond burgers, hot dogs, etc. Don't forget to take home some Mickey goodies if you have snack credits left at the end of the trip. You can buy small bags of candy or Mickey Rice Krispie Treats with the snack credits.

Enjoy the rest of your trip! Have a good drink by the pool for all of us who are waiting to be there!

This is so exciting to me!

And thanks for the live from POFQ update Steve! :thumbsup2

So is anyone going to be there for Tuesday 17 May, which is Port Orleans French Quarter's 20th Anniversary?

Andre
