I noticed in the pics on portorleans.org there are full size bottles of wine and soft drinks, cereal boxes etc for sale in the store. Do they sell wine glasses and bowls (plastic ok) or do you need to find your own elsewhere?

In the past, there were some plastic cups and also some real glass cups in the room. If you don't mind drinking MadDog :rotfl: out of a regular glass, you can just use them.

We check in Weds for 2 nights with a travelocity reservation and then our free dining package starts friday for 7 nights. I was able to checkin the package today but it would not accept my requests it said, ground floor and pack and play.

Anyone think I have a good chance of keeping the same room for the whole stay?

This happened to me. I had to go in and re-do my online check in. If you did not get a confirmation of the online check-in, I would try it again.

I did get a confirmation and an email. It just said my special requests could not be added. I have my daughters birthday noted on everything and then those other 2 requests.

Can anyone tell me if 2 cartons of milk will fit in the friges in the room?

Sorry it took me a while to get back on here - returned to the UK on Monday 16th and foolishly went straight back to work the next day lol. (well, I'm returning to Florida in September so I suppose these things don't pay for themselves, right?)

POFQ is a fantastic resort and although I requested building 4 and a ground floor room, (which we got by the way) it would not have mattered as everything is close by - a remarkable and picturesque little place.

Firstly, I have to disagree about the beds and found them very comfortable - they were certainly not overly firm and I slept well and my only gripe was because of the time difference, I was up early most days - indeed it was the last day when I finally got the long-awaited lie-in as I got up at 6.44am! - don't ask before that lol.

To help keep fit and not put too much weight on, I devised a route from room 4121 through the parking lots, ppast reception to the beginning (or end depending on your point of view) of the river path. This was then followed into the Riverside resort, all the way past Riverside Mill and followed the paths around the other side of the river, across the bridge and back again - it was exactly 2.5 mile beginning and ending at our door. i did this walk every morning - usually before dawn. It was stunning watching the daybreak whilst walking along the river and most of the resort slept.

Saw and heard some wonderful nature - undisturbed at this time too:thumbsup2 - if i can reduce file sizes I'll put a few pics up.

Can I also add even pre-dawn the staff at both POFQ and POR were up and working, tending, pruning, fixing and cleaning - this resort will NEVER be allowed to fall into disrepair as they are always maintaining it as-they-go! - THey do a great job!

Just a warning though - especially for those of us from a cooler climate - the heat in Florida and specifically the Disney area was tremendous - approaching record levels and indeed 95-96f was recorded on a couple of days - combined with the humidity of course. It might become unbearable in August! - I'm so glad I lost 90lb before this trip else I may just have melted lol.

I never saw a gator at POFQ - but saw an otter at Riverside! it was right outside the Water mill being "mobbed" by Grackles (presumably concerned it was going to attack their nests? I did see two gators and another otter at Celebration - real ones and not enclosed like Gatorland etc.

I have to say I never visit the same resort on vacation - I might visit the same country, or island etc. but never stay at the same resort. I can't imaging NOT revisiting POFQ some time in the future - I guess it affects people that way? it is a tremendous place to slow down and unwind after the hustle and bustle of the parks.

When I lose the jet lag and get a look, I'll put some pics on - just to give a bit of a flavour.

I'll certainly "pop in" when I go back to Florida in September:cool1:

Thank you so much for the review Steve. Yes it can get very HOT there especially for us "cold" blooded northerners.

Glad to hear the beds were comfortable. I will find out in about 5 days.

I love POFQ for having that quiet relaxed feeling. You're right after being in the parks it is great to come "home" to that feeling.

yeah great review Steve! Reservations made to visit you in December...can't wait and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else!

That rather depends on the carton size! You might have trouble fitting in two one-gallon cartons and leaving space for anything else, but otherwise you'll be fine:

Thank you! I think we will be ok. We really are only going to use the fridge for my son's milk. But he has to have it when he wakes up first thing so I want to have some in there for him.

I am there now and it's great. The room is very nice and the pool is excellent. The only drawback is that the non MK bus makes lots of stops, but on the return you are the first off.
:bride: my granddaughter wanted this smily. No brides on this trip lol.

Oh another thing I ought to mention was the whole friendly vibe around the area. I know it is quite often "the norm" in Orlando/Disney but I rarely went on any of my walks/ventures without the usual cheerful encounters. People were always so polite and friendly, and I'm sure you'll all agree it is not unknown to go AWOL because you get talking to someone lol:rotfl2:

My geographical knowledge of the US has increased dramatically and we exchanged the usual info re: history etc. The courtesy and politeness never fails to surprise or delight me from Americans and particularly their children - I put it down to the "Disney Factor" bringing the best out of everyone.

It's hard not to be happy when the sun shines and may explain the surly, miserable encounters of many Brits back here in the UK - Disney is unique - a bit like Christmas.

Only 126 days for another 14 day return, and time to look at booking for next year - possibly April!

Steve

We are scheduled for September and are looking forward to it. This is our first time in a MOD. resort. We liked the move up and are expecting a little more. I have heard a lot about the bus rides, and the length of trips. Thats the only part that worries me.

I called today and rescheduled my upcoming June trip for a week later.

My DH is a farmer and we have had a record setting amount of rain in April and May...so, needless to say, he has not been able to plant the crops yet! Delaying the trip a week allows him more time to plant the crops...IF it would just quit raining so much!

So...I called WDW today and the nicest CM (Percival) graciously helped me reschedule my visit! I think he was amused by my Disney knowledge! He told me the he had a surprise for me...and I said, "If it is Queen-sized beds, I already know about them."

He laughed and then said, "Your total is going to be a bit higher than what your previously booked." I replied, "Yes, because we're staying Tues-Sat instead of Mon-Thurs and the Friday stay will be at the weekend rate." This really made him chuckle and he said, "Sounds like we should just put you to work on this end of the phone!" :rotfl:

Now I have to wait 8 more days until I'm "home." But, at least I still get to go!

I cannot wait to set foot in the POFQ in just 12 hours...I really should get some sleep, nah...too wired too sleep!

All right now I'm confused. What was wrong with our bed down there? We were in building 2. Did we just have a different type, or a defective, or maybe a newer bed?:confused3 We never complain about the beds at WDW and are so tired we sleep like babies down there usually, but the bed we had at POFQ April 30th-May 8th felt like a hard wooden board. We woke up with headaches and back pain every morning. Even my husband who can sleep like a log on anything, was miserable all week. We really loved everything else about the resort though. The bed was actually so bad that I moved my Sept trip over to CSR, but now I'm wondering if I should switch back, if maybe I just got a rogue bed.:rotfl:

Have a great trip! Can't wait to read some more of your dining reviews.
