Port Everglades and more

I live in Boca Raton, very close to Fort Lauderdale. I can't wait for the Dream to start sailing from Port Everglades!

You guys do know they already started booking these cruises during this weeks releases, right. I was going to book, but stuck with a 7 night out of PC. I hope similar are around for the next release too.

What is special about Port Everglades? Just that it's different and new for DCL, or is there something about it I don't know? TIA.

Easier access for people driving to port as you do not need to go through Miami, and often flights to FLL are cheaper than MIA. Port Everglades is not as small as PC but is more manageable than POM.

MIA we ended up wrapping around the building in line. Such a nightmare in the heat with my arthritis and I’m trying to sit on the ground with my 9pins 2plates and 3 screws because it’s to painful to stand. But I’m sure it was just bad luck.
I didn’t have any of that at the PE port. Plus I went by myself to pick up a rental car for a few hours before we took off hit a few sites in town before our evening flight got a quick ride to the airport and left the rental car there when I was done.
It was just one of those things that it was so darn easy I feel like I got away with something.

Disney is building their own terminal there, so it'll be nice like PC instead of a shared space like they have in Miami. Plus, the cruise port is right next to the airport, so transportation is easier.

Lots of hotels, lots of food options, plenty of places to buy clothes/sundries/alcohol in case you need any of that. Ubers and taxis are easy to catch from the hotels and the airport - it will take 15 minutes max to get to the terminal, and that's if the taxi driver is trying to rip you off.

Don't remember if PC has Global Entry/NEXUS but you can use that and the mobile passport app in Port Everglades.

With that said, if you're looking for a post-cruise excursion, it's not the greatest place in the world for that.

i saw that, plus Disney signed a 15 year contract with the port. I’m guessing the new terminal will be ready when the cruises start in November 2023. I did read that another Disney ship will also sail from there occasionally, but not sure which one. Looking at the Dream it appears they will be leaving Miami early May 2023. It did look like summer 2023 the Magic will be doing some cruises out of Miami.

Port Canaveral is the worlds second busiest cruise port, behind only Miami. It’s actually bigger than port Everglades, not smaller.

I haven’t ever done any research on this, just going from past experiences. The last time we sailed out of Port Everglades there were seven ships there that day. I’m not sure Port Canaveral can handle that many in a day.

Yes, we've seen 9 ships in Port Everglades. The stat seems to refer to passengers, and there are fewer 3/4/5 day cruises out of PE, so fewer passengers.

In my opinion, the best part is you can see the Ships from the Airport. That's how easy it is to fly into and sail out of FTL.
I find MIA easier to deal with than FLL. The one time we flew home from FLL it was a total cluster, with lines for baggage drop off well out the door and lasting almost an hour, not being allowed to go through security until around noon for a 2pm flight (arrival at 9am, so just sitting pre-security with nothing to do for hours), etc. I've never experienced any problems flying in or out of MIA.

I find that most people (Ourselves included) prefer FTL over MIA. The biggest benefit for you will be that you can easily fly out of either airport.

Once the high speed Brightline train route is complete, it will be easy to get to WDW from Fort Lauderdale. Right now the Brightline trains are operating from Miami to Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach. I think the route to Orlando will be completed in 2023.

How long will that train ride take?

They have been quoting about 3 hrs. Top traveling speed for the train is 79 mph.

When the train is done, they are supposed to have stops for both Port Everglades and Port Miami. Hopefully this will materialize.

The section of track between MCO & Cocoa will run up to 125 mph. The track between West Palm & Cocoa is being upgraded to allow speeds of up to 100 mph.

3 hours is a lot longer than a flight, and only a little shorter than driving. About equal to flying when adding in early arrival for a flight. I don't really see the advantage over flying or driving unless you just really dislike flying or driving. Is it a lot cheaper?
