Me, DS(5),and DH are leaving in 6 days for our first trip to Disney World. We have reservations at POR,and requested the Mansions. I've heard we may not get them from other post on the board. I read we can fax request 4 days before arrival, and I plan to do that. Which Mansion building would you request, and why? We requested waterview. Do they honor that? I'm getting worried! What do you think of the AB rooms? Which do you prefer? I read on another post they were closing all the Mansions for remodels. I know my son would love to be close to the pool. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. We can't wait!:sunny:

Green,

Its me again!

Just to let you know I was reading on another post someone said they stayed at Acadian House around the same time we were there so Maybe all the mansions are not closed!! hope you get one!

Thanks! I feel alittle better. I've been worried we may get AB,and from what you said they didn't sound to great. We won't spend to much time in the room, but I would rather have the mansions. I heard they were nicer. Did the AB rooms look that bad? I'm sure we'll be happy just to be at Disney.

heres a review I posted of our stay at POR and we liked AB

Date(s) of Stay: 9/27-10/2 2001
Accommodation Used: Standard Room / Studio
Accommodations Review: It was a basic room with a rustic theme. We had enough room for the five of us. Our 3 year old slept on the somewhat thin and small trundle. I only recommend the trundle for the very young. The bed was a little soft but do able. It was very clean. No problems at all with that. Housekeeping left new Mickey toiletries every day. Enjoyed this resort a lot but would like to try a more traditional hotel style.

Room # and Location Description: 2464. We were on the second floor. The locations was nice.Steps away from the quire pool and laundry and just a couple of steps more to the west depot. Very nice at night. Con was the very long walk to the main hotel area/food/theme pool. But not undoable. About a 5-10 minute walk with children. But long after full days in the park.
Room Location Pros & Cons: Loved the closeness to the bus stop, laundry and pool. Con, the long walk to the main area.
Check-In / Check-Out Comments: We checked in at 11 am with no problems, not line. We had requested buildings 14 or 18 corner room second floor. They would accommodate us but not until 6pm. The room 2464 was ready right away and we enjoyed it and were glad we took it.
WDW Transportation Comments: The bus transportation was really good. We never waited more than 5-8 minutes for the bus.
Restaurant / Lounge Review: We only used the food court which was adequate. The breakfast food was sometimes cold. But the selection of easy things (bagels, muffins) was good. The collector cups were very useful because we drink a lot of beverages. We used 2 cups for our family of 5 and it worked out well. The price of the cups was $8.99 our first day when we bought them and was $9.99 on October 1st.
Pool Description / Comments: We mostly used the quite pool which was very clean and warm. The shallow area was good for our 3 yr old but the deep end could have been deeper for adults. We used the theme pool once at 9pm and the slide was closed. The water was very warm and the kiddie pool was even warmer. We enjoyed the pools a lot. .

Stayed at Acadian Mansion from 4/5 to 4/9. All mansions were open.

Magnolia Mansion can be treated like a hub because the bridge connecting the island (where the big pool is) is located in the rear.
Acadian and Oak Manor flank Magnolia and would be a good choice too. The walk from Acadian to the pool was 5 minutes. The walk to the lobby is a little longer but doable. The walk is very scenic. The other mansion Pratere Place is a long walk to the pool but closer to the lobby.

A first floor river view room may not offer a good view due to the shrubs around the mansions.

Acadian and Magnolia share a small pool that can be refreshing and is only a short walk from the building.

The complex looks daunting on a map, but I was surprised how compact the site is. There was plenty of parking with adequate nightime/security lighting.

By advised that not all buildings have elevator access, but I think the tallest buildings have only three floor.

Finally, AB and mansions seem to offer the same amenities. It's important to be close to the bus depots. Acadian is close to the north depot which is the second to the last bus stop. Getting a nightime bus to magic kingdom was a problem for me because the buses were full. We ended up taking an Epcot bus and connecting to MK via the monorail. Just have a backup plan prepared.

We chose POR as our first WDW resort too, and we enjoyed it. The pros are the landscaping, cleanliness and the boat shuttle to downtown disney. The biggest con is the bus transportation. It seemed that the return lines to POR from the parks were longer than other moderate resorts. MK transport can be a challenge during peak times, but buses to the other parks were fantastic.

We stayed in Parterre Place and really liked that location. If you booked a waterview room then they have to honor it. However, if you booked a standard view then requesting waterview is only a "request" and you may or may not get it.
