POR Water View Worth $$

My family and my sisters family will be staying at POR Water view rooms the last week of March. We decided on this because of the cost of Deluxe Rooms during peak season is too expensive to justify. Anyway we did pay for the Water View Rooms. I usually never pay extra for a view, but after hearing the cost of the Deluxe prices then POR it seemed Ok to spend the extra on the view. From what I have Read we will be in the Alligator Bayou because there is 5 in each family. Now that I have been thinking about it, is it really worth the extra money for the view in AB POR. Thank You! :mickeybar

A POR AB waterview could be a small pond outside your window (happened to my M-I-L). There are very few AB rooms that look out onto "true water". Also with no balconies at POR, a waterview is really pointless. You could pull your chairs out onto the common walking area, but most don't.
My mom and I had a waterview once at POR. We had to open our door and crane our necks to the right to see the Sassagoula River (this was from a mansion).

In my opinion, a waterview isn't worth the extra $$$.

Enjoy POR - great resort! :cheer2:

POR is a great resort but I would not pay extra for a water view. If you are looking over the river, you have quite a bit of space b/w your room and the water and since there are no balconies or patios it just wouldn't be worth it for me.

By the way, our standard view room had a great view. I requested and received a corner room so we had two windows looking out onto beautiful trees and landscaping.

Unlike POR, POFQ has quite a few rooms that actually face the river. Would I pay extra for one? Doubtful, because at the moderates you don't have a nice balcony to sit and relax. You could put chairs outside on the walkway I suppose, but it certainly won't be private. It looks like you have time to change your ressies. Both POR and POFQ have beautifully landscaped grounds. Chances are you will get nice rooms without the extra money. Have a great trip whatever you decide! :sunny:

I would not pay for a waterview room at PO, for reasons previously stated. Just returned from POR. I thought the entire property was beautiful. I payed for a standard room and we were in the AB section with lush landscaping all around us. Beautiful! Great resort.

I payed for a waterview 2 years ago when I went and regretted it. It is definitely not worth it in my opinion. YOu really don't see much at all.

The view you have at the moderates and values really doesn't matter. You can't keep your curtains open because everyone walks by right outside your room. I wouldn't spend the extra money.

Hi,

I would not pay extra for a water view at the moderates due to none of the rooms having a balcony. All of the moderates are set up like motels (the door to your room opens onto a public walkway. The windows of your room look out over a public walkway). We pay extra for a savanna view room at the AKL because we sit out and relax and watch the animals but at a moderate I would save the money.

First of all let me say, you made great choice POR is a wonderful resort and we've had two magical stays there. I would absolutely NOT pay for a waterview room as that could mean a pond or a pool. All of the resort is beautifully and lushly landscaped so just about any room will have a pleasant view. Also bldg 14 which many people request because of it's closeness to the main bldg has no waterviews so you are guaranteeing yourself not to be in the closest bldg if you book a waterview. Our last trip we were in bldg 16 and it was great. Really close to the main bldg with either the beautiful paths or hopping across the parking lot behind the resort to get to the main bus depot. Also I would say try to make time to eat breakfast at Boatwrights the table service restaurant...it's FABULOUS! Have a great time but save the extra cash for the waterview to have a couple of pina coladas (I had mine non alcoholic, truly refreshing) poolside and some Blueprint Omlettes at Boatwrights!

I will never pay extra $ for a "water view room". You have no idea what your water view is going to be. You could get an equally nice view going with a standard view. The whole resort is so nice that the best way to enjoy any view is to get out and walk around. Have fun!

Thank You all so much for the responses! :flower: It sounds so beautiful. I am going to call today and have that removed. I don't know what I was thinking when I booked that. :mickeybar
