SOG has no availability for our first two days, so initially I booked:

Coronado Springs 1/11-1/13
SOG 1/13-1/16

When the AP discounts came out, I found the entire time at POR, BUT in different categories:
1/11 Royal Guest Room
1/12 River View
1/13-1/16 Garden View

Pros for the first- SOG is nice! Walk to the Poly for monorail and TTC.
Con- changing resorts on Monday, but still not a huge deal

Pros for the second- POR is pretty nice, with the boat to DS which we may or may not use. Changing rooms if we have to is not a huge deal, right? Pack up my stuff two times, though instead of once, but my car can stay put.

It should be the same for booking FP, etc, correct?

Now- the question is if costs are roughly equal, which would you choose?
If the Coronado/SOG is cheaper by more than $200, which would you choose?

I Have never stayed at ANY of those resorts, and I'll be alone one night with a friend joining me on the second night. Our first night and day will be Epcot, most likely with DAH on the second night at MK.

Our last trip in August, we stayed 3 days at Coronado and 4 days at SOG. We enjoyed our stay at both (sorry, no input on POR since we've never stayed there).

This was our first Coronado stay but we've stayed at SOG many times. We LOVE both the convenience of SOG and the hotel itself, so I'm kinda partial to adding that hotel in the mix, even if it's just for a day or two.

We have a long weekend in January coming up and, like you, couldn't get SOG for the entire trip. What we ended up doing was booking SOG for the first night (which we have some MK-area reservations on the first 2 days, so perfect) and then will move to Coronado for the next three nights. It was not too hard to move hotels when we did it in August. (What I did was pack one suitcase for each hotel and then we left the one we weren't using in the car).

We had no issues at all booking FP for the entire week.

I would do the CSR/SOG split. I would not want to switch rooms twice. Especially if you are coming back to the resort late at night and have to deal with getting your bags from bell services and then finding your new room. Personally, I would book CSR/SOG now and then keep checking to see if you can get your entire stay at one resort.

Thank you- you were very helpful!
Since it's Marathon weekend when I arrive, SOG was booked up that Saturday and Sunday. I'll keep checking for availability, because I think you have to cancel at 30 days or more for SOG, and maybe something will open up.

I keep hearing that POR is really nice- but SOG is cheaper, more deluxe (so I've heard), walking distance to the Poly for monorail, restaurants, lounges, and fireworks view.

I'm keeping the SOG- again, thanks!

Yes, you're correct, you do have to cancel SOG before 30 days out to get your deposit back (and I've done this, they are pretty quick to refund)

SOG's rooms are pretty spacious. We fit 4 adults and a tween (two of our kids are adults) and didn't feel crowded at all.

I hope you enjoy it! :)

I've done split stays with SOG and it's really easy. Disney can help with your luggage like any other on property resort as well. The room size at SOG will be much larger than either CSR or POR. You shouldn't have any problem adding on the Saturday/Sunday even with the marathon. If you haven't done so I'd call to check availability I've always been able to get it on the phone vs. online. Additionally the whole resort has been renovated in the last few years. Good luck and have a great trip wherever you land.

Thank you! I've called a couple of times, and haven't found availability for Sat/Sun yet. But you've inspired me to keep trying!

I just got our final days for our stay this month the beginning of September. Basically the week before I could cancel our POR room.

Yes, FP would be the same booking window. SOG changed that a few years ago.

I've never stayed at POR or the Coronado, so no input there. I have stayed at SOG multiple times and have reservations again. I would choose all SOG if it were me, but only because I don't really have an interest in the Coronado. I do somewhat on the POR/FQ, so that I might consider. If costs were the same, I'd still go with SOG, but I think I'm partial to it at this point. But, for $200 it wouldn't really make my decision, I've got no interest in the Disney Springs area but it may be the draw for you, so for that it depends. I've done split stays at Shades twice (WL and BC). I kind of don't like the split stay small hassle of packing up, but, it's also a time to check out another hotel if that's what you'd like to do.
