POR vs. POFQ

I've been debating for awhile now...

DH and I are going in July for my best friend's wedding (and a delayed anniversary trip).

We'd love to stay deluxe, but that's not going to happen since we are finishing putting DH through pharmacy school.

Since it is our 1st anniversary we were hoping to avoid the values. Although we've stayed there and would again if we needed to.

I don't like CBR from pictures and visiting my friend while she stayed there. I stayed at CSR and it is my least favorite Disney hotel...

So obviously I have it narrowed down to POR and POFQ. But I am having a hard time deciding. We had our engagement pictures taken at POR and loved the resort. However POFQ is smaller and cheaper... and I know you can use the facilities at either. I am love New Orleans, although the crocodiles that are around have me feeling it may be a little "less" romantic than POR.

I just need suggestions or recommendations from people with personal experiences. Pictures are also welcomed... I have looked over way too many threads about the two and now I think I am even more confused.

Please and thank you for your help and guidance! :goodvibes

We have stayed at POR twice and have visited POFQ each time. We find the walk between the two resorts to be just long enough where we have no desire to do it more than once a trip, and certainly too long for us to want to go over to use the pool. We go in September and it's so hot, and the path is in direct sunlight which may add to why we feel like this.

We did not love the food court at POFQ. We ate breakfast there and it was very crowded with no open seats. We had to sit in the lounge. We never had this problem at POR, and found the POR food court to be much bigger for seating and selection. Also, we did not like that POFQ only had one bus stop. It was crowded and people made a mad dash when a bus pulled up. At POR, since there are multiple bus stops, it helped to disperse the crowd. Even though it took a few extra mins to go around the resort and stop at each stop, it was worth it to not have to fight to get to the bus.

THANK YOU!!

These are the things that I find are very helpful to know. I greatly appreciate it!

We have done FQ twice and POR once. Much prefer the smaller FQ. We found that if you got on the bus anywhere other than the main stop at POR on a morning, the bus was full and would go straight past the other stops.

One night we got off at the wrong stop (driver didnt bother to shout where we were) at POR and had to find our way through the resort.

Coming out of the parks on a night, where there are separate queues, its better to go to FQ and walk to POR.

POR has the better foodcourt. However, its easy to walk from FQ to POR foodcourt. Depending on where you are at POR it can be a long walk to FQ.

I dont care for the pool at POR, too many trees surrounding it.

The entertainment at both is good. POR has Yehaw Bob and a better bar area. FQ has jazz.

I have stayed at both POFQ and POR and I like POFQ better. In my opinion, POR was way too big, and the bus lines were always so crowded and took a while to get to the room. At POFQ, however, it only took a couple minute walk to get to the room, and the bus lines weren't too bad. So, in my opinion Port Orleans French Quater is much better.

We stayed at POFQ our last trip (after decided to change from POR) and were glad we changed. POFQ was small and intimate. We walked through Riverside several nights and while beautiful it was overwhelming. Then again we were traveling with two small children. If it was just me and DH, I would've had no problem staying at POR.

We love POFQ. We have stayed there 3 times and POR 2 times. We stayed at POFQ on our 30th anniversary and first time with no children and found it very romantic and quiet. Small size and we felt uncrowded. We were surprised on got a corner room King facing the garden. It was a wonderful trip. You can walk anywhere within 5 to 7 minutes. Trip along the river to POR is not bad, We are in our 50's and dont find it a hard walk at all. So you can go see Bob or get a carriage ride etc. Take the boat to DTD etc. I love the one bus stop as we always went to the main stop at POR to make sure we got a bus.:goodvibes
Here are the love birds that mouse keeping gave us. she added stickers each day to the pair.

I have stayed at both and I much prefer POR. The food court is the best on property, all the activities like biking, boating, ect are up at POR and the theming to me is much better. The theming at POFQ to me felt a bit cheesy. Also, while yes POFQ is a lot smaller, the fact that POR is larger plays to your advantage because even when the hotel is full, it never feels full walking around. Also the pool at POR is much better. That's my opinion. ENJOY!

We have stayed at POFQ, so I can only comment on it. We loved it! It was very quiet and relaxing. The grounds were very pretty, and we enjoyed the jazzy feel/vibe it had. As others have posted, it's very small so any room you get is easy access to the pool/food court. As for our bus experience, we couldn't have asked for anything better, and we went in June when it's very busy. Only one time did we have to wait for around 10 min. Every other time we took the bus it was around 5 min. There was never a large crowd either. The only time the bus was packed was on an evening after a light show (to be expected). Otherwise, morning rope drop time, mid-day, evening, all proved to be easy, fast, and never crowded. Good luck on your decision and enjoy your trip!

We like both very much. I would gladly stay at either again. Even after our last three stays at Deluxe resorts (which will continue only if good codes continue), my DH has chosen POR/FQ for our 20th anniversary trip next year. Don't know which one of the two we will choose, but I told him he could choose any resort on site, and he likes the theming of those resorts better than the monorail resorts.

POFQ has more of a small, compact, city feeling to it. Everthing is more convenient. I noticed more people around.

POR is, of course, more spread out. More of a quiet, country, feeling to it. We saw other guests much less frequently. It did take longer, in general, to get around there. The POR food court seemed more organized than the POFQ overall during our stays. That is probably hit-or-miss though and it has been a few years since we've been there. So I am not sure I even consider that any more.

I didn't notice transportation remakably better or worse at either. Buses are buses.

So, IMO, both are very good. I think either would be a romantic place for an aniversary trip!
