Por Vs Csr?

Hi - newbie here! We are planning our family first trip to DisneyWorld for February. I've done a lot of reading about the resorts and think I have it narrowed down to POR or CSR. We have three boys ages 9, 6 and 2.

Here are the things that attract me/concern me about each:
POR:
- Good: Trundle bed would be good for my 2 YO (if we get that room), lots of dining options on dining plan, boat to downtown disney (not sure how much that will be a factor)
- Bad: Rooms looked cramped to me and not sure about those logs sticking up on the bedposts. I've heard the bus is tight coming and going from there. The rooms look a little old and worn from what I've seen in photos.
CSR:
- Good: fitness center (for my husband - I look forward to walking and staying out of the gym for the week  ), queen beds (if we get them - disney won't confirm that process is complete), like the motif better than the POR, newer (rooms that have been renovated)
- Bad: dining plan - can we eat there at all?

Our needs for our trip: I think my two older kids and I will outlast my dh and 2 YO at Disney. I envision them heading back to the room and leaving us behind for continued fun - want this transition to be as easy as possible. Also, I want there to be somewhere for my 2 YO to sleep - won't do a crib or PnP. The trundle would be nice, but most likely he will wind up sleeping with us at some point every night - that's tough in a double.

Any thoughts? I haven't been to Disney since I was a kid and have never stayed on site, so I'm flying blind. We considered doing the Poly (for more room + monorail), but can't stomach the extra $1000 it takes to stay there - especially since airfares aren't coming down as low as I'd like them to.

Thanks in advance!
Karla

CSR!! I love CSR for the atmosphere, great CM's and the deluxe-lite feel. CSR offers a spa, salon, full menu room service and fitness center not to mention a terrific main pool area and the best transportation that is not shared with any other resort. It's like taking two vacations in one. Queen beds too!

What about the food/dining plan issue? I'm worried we'll get stuck there without being able to use our plan - especially if my dh goes back to the resort with the 2 yo. That's my biggest concern with CSR by far. Maybe he just pays that day and use the food credit on a different day?

Yes, if you are on the DDP, that issue hasn't been resolved yet with CSR. Won't know more until the end of the year.

Hi, Karla. Welcome. I don't want to burst your bubble and I NEVER turn anyone away from wanting to stay at our home away from home, but I do not believe the CSR will hold five people unless you get two rooms or a suite. I could be wrong...but I would doublecheck that. I think the only Moderate that holds five is the POR with the trundle bed.

You can have 5 if one is under 3.

Yes, my 2 YO doesn't count as a person ; )

Still, I keep size in mind because he *is* a person and probably has more stuff than the rest of us! : ) He will most likely sleep with us (or trundle if we're at POR). In future visits, we will have to think of him in terms of being a bigger person and that's probably the time to stay at the Poly. Will have to start saving (or stay offsite)! All the moderates do look like we'll be pretty squished in there.

But at least CSR has queen size beds...that would help with the "squished in there" factor.

Food: although there are some differences, both resorts have a full service restaraunt (that gets mixed reviews) and a food court.

Some like the CSR Pepper Market, it is unusual and different than the other Disney Moderate/Value food courts.

I really can't see Disney not having at least one DDP option available at their resorts. I'm sure that in the end one or two of the food areas will take the DDP.

I just spoke with a rep who said there will definately be something on the property on the DDP. The brochure is still being finalized, but in her words "we own the resort, they will participate." Ok....

I should have gotten her name, right? Ah well. I think that will solidfy our choice to CSR. Now my dh just has to make 100% he can take that week off. Now *that* is a much more challenging situation than the DDP. ; )

Thanks for all of your help!

I'm going to be there in two weeks, what is this about the DDP? Are the TS and CS restaurants not on the plan anymore at CSR?

No, you're fine. We've been discussing the 2009 plan. The contracts haven't been finalized so the brochure listing is incomplete at this point. Every restaurant listed for 2008 is still participating until end of December.

Thank you very much, getting worried there for a second :thumbsup2 .
