Well, after an eleven night stay at POR, I just wanted to give a few thoughts on what our family of four thought of this hotel. We were so excited to go to DW & super excited to try this hotel. The only other time we had been to DW we had stayed at CSR & though we loved it, we wanted to try something different.

We were supposed to arrive at POR on 09/21 but due to some sort of problem with weather (so Delta Airlines claimed!), our flight was cancelled & re-scheduled for the same time on the following day. Just as a side note, Disney was amazing when we called to inform them...without asking & without insurance, they refunded us the price of that missing day!! WE LOVE YOU DISNEY!!

Now, our first view of POR was positive...it's very cute though we all agreed that the front entrance & check in was not as beautiful in presentation as CSR had been. Though we arrived in the mid-afternoon of a Saturday & it was very busy, we got to the front of the line quickly. Our CM was friendly & handed us our cards & paperwork in a timely fashion. However, it went downhill from there! I noticed that they had not modified the length of stay due to the missing day which meant we had too many dining credits. When I pointed this out to her, she went to talk to someone & left me standing there for 25 minutes! Finally she returned, re-cut the cards with the proper info & said we were now good to go.

We were assigned to building 28 in the AB...we had not requested any section as we didn't really care. Building 28 is a good walk to get too (read: far!) & again, we agreed that the "vegetation" was not really that appealing but rather looked unkept in a lot of sections. We love trees & bushes, flowers, etc but this just did not look like well tended gardens but rather wild vegetation. On the up side, we did not have a parking lot view.

We finally arrive in our room, to a ringing phone...the CM called to announce that she had made a mistake & we needed to come back to the front desk to have the room keys cut AGAIN!! I just saw our "afternoon" at the park diminishing more & more! As a side note to this little escapade....we did go back, wait, have the cards re-done & went to Epcot, only to discover that the same CM had erred yet again...my card was not activated & I could not enter the park!!! (A CM at Epcot took care of getting me in & we went back to "check in" once again at close to eleven that night!!) I was pretty mad at POR by this time! It took them four trys to get it right....it was a pretty major waste of my time.

Onwards.....the room was fine...nothing fancy. We liked the double sinks. Mousekeeping always kept it clean on the surface but I doubt they did a lot of deep cleaning. My son found a beer bottle cap on our last morning there, under the bed...no one from our family had drank any beer there during our eleven day stay....hmmmmm.

The "quiet" pool was never quiet! We would walk by at eleven or later at night & the kids would be screaming!! I was some glad we did not have a room with "waterview"!!! The main pool was OK but not as good as CSR.

We never did Boatwright's but the CS restaurant was good. We ate lunch there once & dinner there once & it was not bad at all. The gift store was nice but some of the CM's there didn't seem to like their job much...didn't like to be asked any questions...not terribly friendly. The bar was nice & large but we never did find the time to stop for a drink there.

Transportation was OK. We were at the West stop...first on the buses most mornings so lots of seats. However, it seemed to take 15+ minutes to stop at all the other stops & actually leave the resort area. It just seemed to take forever to get anywhere!! The boat was fun though. And one morning I did walk from our room, all the way around, to the FQ & back again. It was a very nice walk, especially in the Mansion section.

Overall, it was OK, but we would choose CSR over POR or POFQ in the future. Having seen it now, if we did stay at POR again, we would request the Mansion section but really, CSR wins hands down!!

Just my opinion of course....any questions??

Thanks for the review. I think a card problem like this could happen at any resort though. Too bad that happened :(
As for it being a long walk,etc.. wasn't CSR just as bad for size? That place looks HUGE! What building were you in at CSR?

We loved POR -FQ. It is much smaller than POR. We are staying at CSR though for our December trip so I am glad to hear you like it. However it is just my DS who is 5 and me traveling. So I am worried about not getting a room close to the front.

Yes, you are right about the card problem, it could happen anywhere & things like that do happen all the time. Just a bit of bad luck.

CSR is big too!! But it seemed faster to me....I think CSR has one main walkway with most of the buildings around it while POR seemed to have a number of buildings in the AB section that were off little winding paths. Just seemed long.

Yes, POFQ is MUCH smaller than POR but when I looked at the themeing, CSR just seemed nicer. Of course, it is a lot about personal taste as well!

I would just ask CSR for a closer room & explain why. They seemed very accomodating to me when we were there. And I'm sure your DS will LOVE the pool!! It's awesome!

Yes, that card problem happens everywhere and it really stinks when it does! The good thing about trying different resorts is that you can really know for sure which one is your favorite! We loved POR and CSR, our problem is choosing between them (and CBR which we also love). Welcome back, thank you for posting the review.:)

My thought...

Is it possible that CRO did not inform your schedule change POR front desk correctly?
If so, is it the fault of POR or CRO? We don't know the answer for that.
So it is very possible that same thing would happen if your reservcation was at CSR. from other poster's comment. my impression is that card issue may happen to anywhere including CSR. Is it the problem of POR or generally Disney's card key system? I also see that quiet pool issue is not POR specific issue. I heard this issue is happening everywhere including Value, Mod, and Delux.

It's really hard to know exactly what happened regarding the whole card fiasco & yes, it totally could have happened anywhere. I mentioned it as it was just so totally maddening!!! Grrrrrrr!!!

However, whether it happened or not, our family consenses is that CSR is still a nicer resort to stay at. Again, I'm not saying POR is BAD, just stating that haven now stayed at both, & seen POFQ, we would ask for CSR availibility over POR or POFQ in the future.

Regardless though, if you've already booked POR or POFQ, you & your family will have a great time. As I'm sure you've heard many times, you can't go wrong staying at any Disney property.

PTA-Mom - We felt the same way about POR after staying at CSR twice before. POR is a pretty resort and there's nothing we disliked about it, but for us, CSR had beauty, bus service, pool, slide and Pepper Market go8ing for it that beat out POR. The boat ride to DTD was a big plus at POR, we really did enjoy that...:)

I am happy to hear you loved CSR, it is my fave resort :) I am presently in POR in AB section, building 24, so I know what you mean by long walk as I am even further out. But to tell the truth, that does not bother me, I enjoy the walk.

I am only at POR for 2 nights but I am enjoying it. I do like CSR much better though :)

I do agree with the others about how a bad situation can occur anywhere and yet leave a less than favorable impression which truly is not a reflection of the entire resort, but simply a reflection of that particular situation.

If your very first visit to CSR would have included a card fiasco, then maybe you would not think highly of it either. Hard to say unless it happens.

As to the landscaping at CRS versus AB at Riverside, the vegatation at AB is actually authenic wild florida, unlandscaped which is what a bayou would look like.

Certainly it does not appeal to everyone but it is not unkempt, just natural. There is a difference.

Glad you had a good time and enjoy your return to CSR.

Not a Riverside fan either. I also prefer CSR over any of the other Disney on site hotels.

You're right Sammie, these things can happen at any WDW resort.

I just wanted to hop in and post that I have stayed at both CSR and POR, and I prefer POR by a huge margin! I am more of a tree person than a rock/desert person, so POR for me is more welcoming. I also enjoy the food court at POR more than the one at CSR. They both do have great themed pools, but somehow the one at POR seems more refreshing. Maybe because it is surrounded by plants and things, while the one at CSR is made to look like it is a Mayan ruin?

I'm not trying to knock anyone who likes CSR, but I just wanted to stand up for POR. This time next week, that is where I will be waking up! I am glad there are so many different resort styles, and that we can all find which one suits us best!

There's something for everyone at WDW.

I've come to realize I don't care for the moderates much. The price isn't bad, but they're all too big with the exception of FQ which wasn't that appealing to me when we saw it in July.

I was really unimpressed with Riverside. I would take Pop or All Stars any day. I just didn't get the Disney vacation vibe there. The bar area (even with Piano Bob) was very cold. Seemed like a lounge at any other hotel.
