We'll be going to Disney in October and staying for 10 days/9 nights. I had originally just booked the standard room, but now I'm wanting to upgrade. I'm trying to decide between a garden view to keep cost down, a preferred room or a royal room. Also I will hopefully be about 6 months pregnant when we go as long as this baby sticks, so I'm factoring that in as well. I was thinking preferred is probably my best bet, but wanted opinions.

If you are pregnant and going for that long, I would definitely do preferred because you are closer to the main amentities - that can be good especially at the end of the day.

Garden views are very nice, would be halfway between the parking lot and the main building and closer to the quiet pools, which is also very preferable.

RR's can have some of the most remotely located rooms especially if you do standard view and end up in Parterre Place.

The POR thread has a map of the resort on the first page and it is also on portorleans.org. If you click on each building, it will pull up a map of the building with the categories and the room locations to help you out.

Also join us over on the POR thread; there is a lot of awesome info and it is one of the best maintained threads thanks to Andre.

At 6 months pregnant, I would choose preferred. You're going to do a lot of walking in the parks all day, so it would be nice to be close to all the amenities.

I would not do garden view. Frankly, I can't tell the difference between garden view and standard. I booked standard last trip and when I looked out the window, I saw the courtyard with the river in the distance.

Do you prefer the mansions or AB? All preferred rooms are in AB and all royal rooms are in the mansions. The royal rooms are a hike to the main pool, but not a bad walk across a bridge to the main buildings. Preferred rooms are a quick walk across the bridge to the main buildings and adjacent to the main pool. However, royal rooms have a quiet pool next to them so I wouldn't let that discourage you.

Of the two, I guess I'd go preferred because the royal rooms don't appeal to me.

Sounds like you may have gotten upgraded to a garden view.

Personally I'm not a fan of the AB rustic themed rooms, so I request a garden view room in either Acadian House or Magnolia terrace close to Old Man Island bridge. Location is pretty central to everything, main pool and main buildings with food, store & lobby and also mansion bus depots too. I dislike the chaotic and crowded main bus stop.
But this is just me.

So my TA checked and no preferred rooms left. :( I think the RR's are cute, but not really a necessity for the price difference.
