We are to be at POR riverside river view next week. 1 room 3 parents. 1 room 4 college age kids 2 girls and 2 guys (cousins). Will there be room for 1 inflatable bed as the guys won't want to share a bed? I am getting worried that it won't work...:confused3

We put an inflatable bed in a Value room, so the moderates should hold it ok. You might need to move the table and chairs over a little bit.

We've stayed at POR once before and while we didn't use an air mattress, there would be room for one.

just to throw the spanner into the works.......POR rooms have in part been renovated and the beds are now bigger!!! Don't think they have all been done yet but not sure just how much room there is anymore. Have a look at
http://www.portorleans.org/ just to check for sure.:)

We put a double high twin in a Pop room and we had plenty of room, so I'd imagine a mod would be even easier!

We've used a queen and a twin (not at the same time) at CSR, which has the same size rooms and beds as POR. The queen was a tight fit, but the twin fit easily near the door. My DDs don't like to share a bed either.

We used a raised twin size air mattress at CBR with no problem. At both CBR and POR, the connecting door (or the spot for a connecting door) is on the same wall as the headboards for the beds. We just placed the air mattress alongside the first bed with the head of the air mattress up against the connecting door. Since the rooms at POR are set up the same way, you should be able to put it there. (As long as you aren't planning to use the connecting door.) Our air mattress was an extra long twin and we had no problem with it sticking out too far at the foot of the bed or with it blocking the door.

StitchandPooh'sMom, could you give more detail on how you guys placed the twin size mattress at CSR? Have you done that since they refurbed the rooms and changed over to queen size beds? My DD would love to stay there but I didn't think we'd be able to use an air mattress in those rooms.

Yes, we have used the queen and the twin since the refurb.

We put it in between the bed and the window, near the door to the outside. We did the same with the queen, but when we used the queen, we had to slide the dresser down, then slide the desk until it was up against the dresser. We didn't need to move anything except the ottomans to use the twin mattress (maybe we slid the desk down a little, but no major rearranging of the room), and both ottomans fit nicely in the vanity area under the closet rod.

If you look at the room pictures in post #2 here, you can see the dresser, desk, ottomans, and window (scroll down to the room pictures).

Thanks so much. Sounds like if we take a regular length twin size, we should be able to make it work for us.

There's also the roll-out bed to accommodate a 5th person in the POR Alligator Bayou rooms. They're not the most comfortable thing, but I'd say they're as comfortable as an air mattress.

We used a twin inflatable at POFQ, in a refurb room last August. It fit fine, although a bigger mattress would not have fit.

Only the mattresses are queen sized; the box springs and frames stayed the same. Honestly, the mattress hangs over each side about three inches - I don't see a huge difference with six extras inches of width total, especially with two adults.

I was in a connecting room last month and we had to pull the door open around the mattress; it overlapped by an inch on the one side.

I think the refurbed Alligator Bayou rooms have a fold down murphy bed. Maybe you could request one of those.

These have been changed since the POR refurbishments to this murphy bed style:

These are meant for children or very small adults. I don't think an average sized college aged kid would be comfortable on it. I read on another thread their 5'2" teenager had their feet hanging off it. This is one downside to removing the trundle - at least the trundle was on the ground and an adult could sleep on it, even though it would probably be uncomfortable.

I agree with PP that the queen beds in the room won't have an impact on making the room feel any smaller. There will still be room for an air mattress. In fact, I might request a room in the mansions that don't have the murphy bed. I haven't seen the murphy bed in person but I feel like it would take up more room than the dresser in the mansion rooms do.
