We always stay a night or two at POR before going off to Old Key West with the grandparents. We love this beautiful resort. The quiet pools are in among the buildings and surrounded by the gorgeous landscaping. Not usually very crowded, no guards. The main pool slide is open when there is a guard, perhaps til 8 at night. My kids love this slide. It is not as long as the one at Coronado but neither is it a teeny one like at Carribean Beach. I am sure it is longer than the one at the Wilderness Lodge, more like a "waterpark slide" than a plain old pool slide.
We have stayed in both Bayou rooms and Mansion rooms over the years, our fave is Bayou. The buildings are only two stories tall and the landscaping is beautiful. Mansions section has nice lawns and fountains. Really anywhere is nice; this is one of the prettiest resorts. Boatwright's is good and you'll need PS for dinner. If you go at breakfast, try the banana-stuffed French Toast. It is wonderful, really a variation of the famed Polynesian Resort "Tonga Toast." The food court is fine. Pizza, chicken, pasta, salads and lots of snacks and desserts. Usually pretty busy and noisy.
We have never had an unacceptable room here or really had anything less than a great time. Sorry no idea about the buses, we usually drive and use our van. I think this resort offers a lot for the price you get, especially when you add in the "sister resort" French Quarter, with it's restaurants and pools. There's lots to see and do here!
