I've been trying to get an idea of which one of these to stay at when I go in September, but am getting mixed reviews. What are your thoughts/opinions, pros/cons on both of these resorts??

I have stayed at both, although it has been awhile since my stay at CBR. My choice would definitely be CBR over POR.

I won't go into the details, but we had an unacceptable experience at POR and found the Management and Housekeeping to be less than responsive. The only upside for us was that we only had to stay at this resort for two nights.

CBR has beautiful grounds, a great food court and pool and we really enjoyed the table service restaurant, Shutters - you will read alot of negative reviews of this restaurant, but we enjoyed it.

The resort is quite large, so, if you do choose this resort, I would highly recommend paying for the preferred location.

Good luck!

Just back from my stay at CBR. The outside was beautiful. Lots of hammocks, playgrounds and things for the kids. The cool play area at the pool is for under 48 inches which is disappointing. The pool slides were not exciting for my kids either. Lots of walking. Very quiet!

We had a problem with the beds not being clean and they brought us clean sheets that we had to put on ourselves. The room felt damp all the time. Our papers and clothes felt damp. The room did not seem any larger than the values.

I have not stayed at PO so I have no opinion on it. We have stayed at CSR and loved it. It also has queen size beds which are nice.

We loved our stay at CBR in August. :thumbsup2 The variety of pools was very welcome in the hot weather and we preferred the quiet pools over the main pool. We loved the food court and the grounds are beautiful to walk through. Our room was much larger than the one we had at POP. we have also stayed at CSR and the room at CBR was quite a bit larger (we had a corner room). Mousekeeeping was great and we had no issues with the room or resort overall. bus services was very quick and I don't think we ever waited more than 5 minutes for a bus to the parks.

We have stayed at POR the last two years and loved it. We have 3 children and our Value and Moderate resorts are limited if we want 1 room.

The food court is very good, pools are great, grounds are beautiful, staff is friendly, and the rooms are very comfortable and attractively decorated.

If we had a party of 4, I would probably try some of the other Moderate resorts or even a Value (except during Jersey Week).

Cheers!

POR is our favorite, but we have stayed at CBR.

We didn't care for the setup of the food court at CBR. Less seating and hard to manuever around people.

We thought CBR was beautiful, pool is fantastic, but we love the feel of POR more.

Plus, it's nice to hop on the boat at POR to DTD. Such a relaxing ride.:goodvibes

Flip a coin...we have stayed at both resorts and enjoyed both.

If you like the Caribbean theme, with pastel buildings, beaches, and steel drum music, CBR might be for you. But if you prefer the old south antebellum/rustic atmosphere, POR is your ticket.

Grounds are spectacular at both.

POR has a better food court, but CBR's rooms and main pool have been recently refurbed.

Rooms at CBR are a bit bigger than POR's.

POR has a bigger gift shop, a much bigger arcade, and an indoor bar area with entertainment, if these things matter to your group.

POR has the boat service to DTD, which is a nice feature.

Check-in area at CBR is in a separate building, quite a hike from Old Port Royale (main building with food court, gift shop, etc.). Could never quite figure out why Disney did that. So POR's main building gets the nod for having everything under one roof.

POR has a sister hotel that is only about a seven minute walk away. A great place for a stroll...try the food court for lunch, look at the beautiful New Orleans themeing. Guests at POR can use the pool and hot tub at the French Quarter too.

Bus service at both we found about equal. Room cleanliness / mousekeeping...CBR was a bit better than POR, at least during our stays.

I guess I would give the edge to POR but not by much.

Whichever you choose, you will have a great time.

I agree with everything you said!

I also give the edge to POR, we have had two perfect stays there (one in 2005 one this past March) and its probably our favorite resort. We also enjoyed CBR very much, but there is just something about POR that really does it for us. Still, I don't think you could make a bad choice, they are both wonderful.

Reviews are great and fun to read (and to write lol) but in the end, they can drive you crazy! Every single WDW resort has its fans and critics. You will never find a resort that gets enough great reviews to put your mind at ease. Just pick a resort that has a budget and theme that appeals and if you have any problems when you get there, bring them up in person to a manager. We have had always had wonderful stays at all our WDW resort stays (well over 25 total since we have done quite few split stays).
