We got an email from Disney and got a great rate on the moderates, $79 a night. So I booked us into POR for early February. (For those of you who didn't get the same email, I have no clue why we received it. Don't hate me because I've been smiled upon.)

Here's my question, the last time we stayed at POR was August 2001 and we stayed in the Mansions. We really enjoyed it. It was very clean and quiet.

But 2 1/2 years is a long time in the life of a Disney resort. For those of you who have been to POR in the last 3 months, what has your experience been like? And would you recommend the Mansions or the Bayou? Why?

We stayed in the Bayou last week and loved it. I liked the meandering pathways and the lushlandscaping and the overall feeling of the place. I did wander over to the mansions one day and it appeared more sterile and uptight. Does that make sense?

Do you have children? The Alligaotor Bayou is the only hotel in the budget, moderate, and even some of the deluxe Disney hotels that can accommodate families of 5. which is how we landed there. So there are likely to be more children here. If you like quiet, go to the Mansions. Not that it was noisy, but I'm used to kids and may not have noticed it.

Stayed in Bayou in Oct. Loved it. The walkways are so peaceful. I love the setting. It was quiet. I just loved everything about it.

We in AB in August and REALLY loved it. We were kinda far from the main building, but the walk was so nice that I didn't mind a bit. But then again we had a pool and a bus stop really close.

It was really magical!

I'm sure you'll love it!

We have stayed in both, most recently, the Mansions in April. The smell of the gardenias blooming along the path was heavenly, but we did tend to jump in the car when we wanted to get over to the food court area. It could be kind of cold in February, and if you won't have a car, it might make sense to stay in the Bayou section, for its proximity to the food and shops.
You'll have a great time in either one, however!
