POR buses?

I have read numerous threads about POR. Everyone loves the grounds, but they all say the bus system stinks. Why doesn't Disney add more buses to their system for this resort? Is it really that bad, or is it just unrealistic expectations that are the cause of the negative reports? We are going in October and it's really concerning. Anyone have anything good to say??? PLEASE!

I've stayed in POR several times and never had an issue with the bus system. It could be that there are some that travel at those peak hours just before park opening. Yes, it can get crowded then. And with about 5 different stops to make, between POR and POFQ, it does take a bit of time. But, it is a moderate resort. It is more spread out, so you need those extra bus stops. We are going back for the last two nights of our trip in June. I can't wait to be sitting at one of those bus stops, reliving my very first trip to WDW back in '99.
I have to say that I waited for buses much longer at the Polynesian...the Studios bus or AK bus took forever to get there. I think we waited almost 40 minutes at one point!!! Never waited that long at POR. I wouldn't worry if I were you.

The two times that we've stayed at POR we haven't had a problem with the buses. One time was without pick up at POFQ (closed for refurbishment) and the second time was with pick up at POFQ. Obviously the year w/o POFQ was less crowded on the buses but both years were fine.

We stayed at BWI last year and I thought the buses were not as good as POR.

Don't worry...you'll have a great time and make sure to take the boat to DTD. It's so relaxing and enjoyable.

We just stayed at POR 4/26 - 5/1. We thought the busses were good. Of course it seemed like most times we were just getting to the bus stop as our bus was pulling away. :rotfl: But even in those cases another bus always came within 15 minutes.

After 3 days, I finally figured out that if you go to the first stop at POR the buses arrive normally, BUT if you are at one of the later stops, the buses filled up at busy times and would just bypass them.(The worst morning was 1 1/2 hours from the time I got to the stop to when I got the the MK- 50 minute wait for bus and then a detour on the way to MK) I had really long waits almost every morning. Returning buses were fine. I would not stay there if I was not near the first stop.

Of course every visit is different. I've stayed at AK twice and had the best ever bus service(never more than 10 minutes) So what was bad for one poster will be great for another.

We have stayed at French Quarter twice and had no problems with bus transportation. This time we are staying at POR and assume it will be the same since they share buses.

Actually, that's not the whole story. Buses are dispatched two different routes to Riverside. One bus is sent directly to the South Depot, and a second bus is sent to cover the Perimiter (West, North, East) So while it looks as if the South Depot bus filled up and bypassed the other stops, what you don't see is that another bus was already dispatched to take care of those stops.

We just returned and I was very pleased with the bus service. We did use the stop right by the POR lobby (I don't know if it's the south stop or not) and although we had to stand 2ce, the trips to the parks are only about 10 minutes - so no big deal. We really didn't wait more than 15 minutes for a bus, ever.

We always use the bus depot at nearest to the front desk. When those buses arrive they are always empty and on return its the first drop off.

We Always stay at POR and always catch the buses up by the front lobby.
We never have any problems going to the parks. The wait for us always happens and the parks trying to get home

Thank you all so much! Sometimes people only write the negative, and it starts to make you wonder. I am much happier now hearing the good too! :flower:

Ok, now here is a really dumb question. BTW I have not been to WDW since about 1980 and I was too young to notice any transportation issues. Once you are in DTD, is there transportation from there to any of the parks? My guys love boats so even if it was an extra time thing I may opt for taking the boat to DTD from POR once or twice if there is some kind of transportation from there to any of the parks.TIA!

There are no theme park buses from DTD. You'd have to back to POR.
