Popping the Big Question

Hi there!

I'm new to these forums and really enjoy reading through them! It's time to take a more active role and ask for some advice.

I'm a college senior graduating this may. I do not have a full time job secured yet, but in my discipline of engineering it is uncommon to not have a position within graduation or a month or two after.

My girlfriend, now going on 4 years is graduating next May (2014). We have been talking, and we both know we would like to spend the rest of our lives together.

We are planning a Disney Vacation for 2014, either over her Winter Break, or directly following graduation. And I would love to surprise her by proposing. I was wondering if anyone has any unique ideas...

Ideas I have read and liked include in Epcot at Italy say how I would like to go to the real Piazza San Marco for a honeymoon and then propose, or a Wishes Cruise.

Just looking for some ideas and suggestions, and thought this the perfect place to ask!

I appreciate any and all advice :D

I always thought the characature idea was clever. You let the artist know ahead of time and have them draw a picture of you proposing saying "will you marry me?" And they leave a spot for her to write in yes. If you search YouTube there are some awesome reactions. I would do this but I'm not a fan of the crowd it attract, feel like it should be a private thing between two people not a park full of vacationers hahah

The ideas you've got already are terrific...I LOVE the caricature idea. We got a caricature done for the first time on our last trip and it's a really great souvenir!! If you added to that your proposal...wow!!

We got engaged a couple of weeks ago at the Magic Kingdom just after Wishes...and while it may not be different or super original, it was very magical and special and unique for me personally as it's the one and only time for us...

He proposed in front of a photopass photographer by the partners statue, so we have lots of pictures of the big moment, which is important to me as it happened so fast and I was so surprised...I love that I have pictures of all of that. So don't necessarily knock yourself out trying to be different...because keep in mind, unless you've ever proposed to her before...ANYTHING you do will be different for the two of you!!!

Think about what is important to the two of you...is there anything at Disney that is particularly representative for the two of you or to the two of you? For us, he knows I am castle obsessed, so making sure the castle was part of it was important to him. He also knows that I love getting lots of pictures so he incorporated that...

Think about her and what she loves...and remember the important thing is the fact that you are choosing each other and making this wonderful commitment....we don't need the big splashy story as much as you might think we do....what we need is the question and the sincerity...whatever feels right to you WILL be right for her....

Good luck and please keep us posted about your plans!!!

My fiancée proposed to me via caricature at Disneyland Park on NYE and it was awesome! He did plan the entire thing in advance with the artist but I had no idea! There were tons of people around but I didn't suspect because it was NYE which is busy anyhow :)

If you go with the caricature idea I think you'll get a great reaction! I was personally so excited and surprised!

Thanks for the ideas! Both would give us an extra souvenir for the moment!

The alternative idea I had, because her and I frequent NYC and Central Park, to ask here there, however that is such a popular place, who knows if there will already be someone proposing there when we go!

There are so many options throughout Disney, it would definitely be magical no matter where. I am just trying to make it the most memorable it can be.

I agree with the fact that I wouldn't want a crowd gathering around, but I do like the caricature idea, it adds a playful touch.

On the other hand numerous pictures would be great as well, especially if it was the last day with a photopass package...all the pictures of the trip leading up to that night!

So many options, thank goodness I have a little bit of time! I just like to plan ahead :D

All great ideas but if it was me and we were in Disney, I would love it early on in the trip, not the last day. That way you can make it all an engagement trip and have the ever important ring in all the pictures. You can add the "Just Engaged" tag to the pictures - and maybe even scout out some locations for a Disney Wedding.

Our Disney wedding ceremony was in Italy so I am very fond of that location. The bridge is a wonderful place to watch IllumiNations and then you can ask her there. I would definately want some photopass people there taking pictures as well.
