POP'ers who have bonded - (new home!)

Chris, I PMed you :)
================

Oh and I know there are not many young kiddos on board here, but is anyone doing Playhouse Disney Live this year or has anyone done it? We're going to the one at the Rosemont and my kids are soo excited, but I hope it's worth it!

I was thinking it may be a good take in. When are you going? I will have to see when it comes around here! Both of mine would LOVE it. Sarah will be 7 on Monday, and Sean is 3!

October 18th :) We were a bit worried since other than Mickey and Friends the other characters are real face people (Handy Manny and The Little Einsteins) and we didn't know until we had bought the tickets.

Then this week they started playing a commercial for it on Playhouse Disney hours and the kids got super excited that Handy Manny and June and QUincy are REAL PEOPLES hahaha :)

so when do you all start decorating for Halloween?

We don't really decorate for Halloween...more of just a fall theme: Mums, pumpkins, and some wooden things that stick in the ground. I should get on that though. Its time!

I would love to do the Playhouse Disney Live...it sounds like a blast, but I think the tour location was a bit far.

Hi gang,

I've been so sick. I have a horrible chest cold/infection. I'm feeling a little better today. Everyone at my fire house has it, which is where i caught it.

Colleen- I'm so sorry for your familys loss.

Whats doing?? How is everyone?? Only 11 more months till i leave to disney! It just seems so long away. I'm really super excitied about this trip more than any. My mom is meeting me there. I have not seen my mom since 2004, i miss her alot.:sad1:

Growing up she was all i had, i could talk to her about anything and tell her everything. She was my best friend. She used to say, if you think you see something, or somehow you can help someone or an animal, then it is your duty to help. I was like 13 at the time. I guess it stuck with me cause at the age of 18 i took the FDNY's entrance exam and passed with flying colors.

She really is a great woman and to date runs a no kill, non for profit animal shelter. She is a ferral expert. Which means animals that are label to scarred or aggressive for human contact, she works with and gets them trained to be able to be placed in a loving home instead of being put to sleep.

Anyway she is comming with us to Cbr next august, i can't wait. She lives in wisconsin.

Work is going ok, there is some gang war going on in the neighborhood that my fire house is in. In the past 2 weeks we've had at least 7 shootings and 5 stabbings. The sad thing is, all the victims are under 18, the youngest was a 14 year old gang banger who was shot 3 times that i had to work on. He will live thanks to me and my partners quick actions, but these kids are so young. Saldy thats just the way the streets are near my fire house, these kids have nothing and join gangs to be part of something and to have something.

I 've been proposed for another medal. A job i had forgotten about last april. While doing overtime in manhattan, a older lady was hit by a tour bus and her pelvics crushed in times square. When we got to her she was still under the tour bus and we had to crawl under it to get to her. she was legally dead, but we worked on her and we just found out she made it and even was able to walk out of the hospital sometime late august. How cool is that?? It's a great feeling that can't be described.

So keep this between us, ds is having a surprise birthday party at school on friday. Dw and i are surprising him and going to his class with pizza and cake, we talked to his teacher and she is cool with it. His birthday is on sunday, he will be 8. Where does the time go??

Ok its bed time, i hope you guys are doing good.

We are having a Nyc disser's meet in manhattan in november, if you guys are close enough and want to join the fun, pm me and i will foward the link to you.

So....what do you guys think of the whole bailout thing? It's so hard for me to decide...on one hand because Mike is in the banking industry, I know all about the subprime crap and how the smaller banks need big banks to buy their problem crud, or it will just be one big bank and no little hometown banks....On the other hand, I don't think it's fair that small business owners and everyday people like us have to shoulder the weight of helping the giant guys that screwed up big time. Anyone worried about jobs? Mike is pretty sure he'll be ok, his bank is still small enough for no one to really care, and yet it's big enough to handle all it's own stuff and doesn't really sell off very much. He said while it's hard to make loans, he had hit his goals for 2008 by June so, the beginning of the year was excellent, so they can take the hit for the remaining few months.

Grace is home sick today - no biggie really - just stuffy, congestion, cough....she's glued to the tv right now....maybe I'll get our halloween decorations out...someone asked earlier...we DO ususally decorate for halloween...but I haven't got anything out yet!

Chris--I have mixed feelings, too. I'd like to do whatever to get the economy fixed, but we were responsible. We have no back deck/patio, no colored paint in the house (except what we did ourselves), and no painted front door (and some other stuff) because we ran out of lending money and didn't find it wise to borrow more. We were responsible, why should our taxes pay for those who weren't?

Hiya! Has anyone ever hired a mothers helper? I'm thinking of hiring a college gal for a few hours a day. With the shop getting busier nap time just needs to be extended a little longer for me! haha!! The bonus is that she's an elementary Ed major, so she would like the experience, the downfall? I feel guilty! haha! It would just be her here to play with the kids outside or downstairs or whatever so I can get some stuff done. I think customer service is 100% key in an online and IRL business and since I have my stuff all over the world, I have to work a lot at it. I figure if she comes twice a week, for 2 hours a day It won't be that bad right???

Hmmm...Job security...I am pretty sure we're alright job wise here with the economy and everything like that. Don't think we should be the ones to bail out the big guys that get themselves into trouble, but I also think it's a double edged sword because so many negatives can still happen if nothing at all is done to bail them out. I think either way we all will be the ones affected.

It is making us cinch our money a bit tighter though. (okay the mothers helper thing won't cost that much! haha) and think twice about things. We may even cancel or shortern the January disney trip because Mexico for 5 weeks will be enough of a treat. It's a lot to think about.

I think that some parent separation is good for kids. Alex goes to preschool a few hours a week not for the learning, but for the chance to learn to share and be a good friend. So go for the mother's helper!

Thanks Rebecca, we have decided to go for it twice a week to see how it works out :)

Hope everyone is doing well, i've been so busy with Sal home, I feel like we just want to spend all this time together :) He stayed a few extra days and it was a pain because his boss had to relay the message to me! haha! We hit up the apple orchard yesterday and it was AWESOME weather and sooo much fun! After that we went to a berry patch and picked raspberries and they are yuuuummmmmy!! Gabriel kept sneaking them when we were not looking! I had to finally explain to him about the washing thing! hahaa. The kids had a blast being able to pick their own fruits and then we have been baking a pie and cooking cinnamon apples this morning and for breakfast the most divine Apple Cider donuts ever! Yeah it was a good weekend. :) One of those you will look back on every now and then!

Best part is this orchard is like 5 minutes from our house, so it's perfect to go to several times in the Fall and we just toss the kids in the wagon while we are there and it gives them a bit of a boost to reach the trees!!

Crazy gay guy just called... I can't stop laughing, but I'm trying to be polite...telling me about guys he likes who give him my number.

Its a wrong number, but he just talks and talks about guys he meets and sizes of stuff etc.

And then guys come down to his house on Friday, and he does this with this guy, and how their skin feels...its just BAD! I need to end this call!!!
