POP'ers who have bonded - (new home!)

hi everyone! I'm sooooooo out of it right now. WE have all been hit with Gabriels nasty flu bug and it's just killing me.

As far as Romans situation is concerned, I think they want to find out what is causing it because his good ear started losing hearing and we didn't know the cause of that.

We did have one reccomendation to wait until he is 1 (October) when they can give him the test where he can just raise the hand the sound is in. And then we can get more inn depth detail then. The only reason the Doc would want to move on everything now is if his good ear gets any worse.

We are getting so stressed thinking about what to do because we feel like we put him through that procedure and all the ear scraping for nothing. :sad2: With the last surgery and then all these appts. to specialists and more coming up next month, we have also had to come to the harsh reality that we are eating up Sals vacation days. Mexico is NOT an option to cancel since we are all set in that dept. down to the plane tickets...so of course that leaves our November Disney trip :sad1: I am hitting a serious deep depressing now thinking that it will probably not happen. AND is Madison comes into play or the Chicago Childrens hospital, they require 1 visit prior to his testing, 1 visit for testing and then a follow up...so that right there is 3 days. Even if we wait until he is 1, well that still falls this year :(

I feel like we didn't take advantage of our most recent tiny venture to Disney World because we knew we were coming back in November, so all we did was take it nice and easy. and well no of course we are regretting it.

argg...sorry to be such a downer...

Dmm- these things just have a way of working themselves out for the better, i know it does not seem like it now, but give it time it will work out.

DMM--I wish I lived closer to you so I could help out! I could watch the other kiddos so Sal wouldn't have to take off. Move to PA and it'll happen. I'm sorry you have such a difficult decision with delaying additional testing. I don't know what I would do either. I would think the benefit of early detection would be so early intervention could start working with him. But I don't know at what point they start working with kids. I remember at the daycare we had kids as young as 2, but all their paperwork says birth to 3 (and then another organization does 3-5). We did baby signs with DD, and if you are interested in that, the videos I'd recommend are the "my baby can talk" series. DD was able to do some of the signs by 9 months I think (Eat, milk). I wish I could do something to help.

Hi gang,

Well we did'nt have to go far to catch some action at the fire house tonight. I start work at 1800 hours or 6pm, anyway at 6:30 most of us ar in the lounge watching t.v.(hard job, i know) all of a sudden all the lights go out and at the same time there is this thunderous boom. Within seconds our emergency generator kicks on, i know this cause it sounds like a mack truck, it is so loud. The power is back on.

The new guys don't know that we are on generator power and think the power has been restored, me and the captain know better. Right there the fire house alarm goes off, meaning we have a call or run, i go look at the dispatch computer in the chiefs office and its for the fire house address and another call for the place right across the street. Its for an explosion.

It now makes sense why we have no power, now to figure out whats going on. I'm supposed to be the wheel man tonight, meaning i'm driving, but i quickly tell one of the other guys to get the rig and pull it out the fire house. I go out the back of the fire house to figure out whats going on All i can see it massive amounts of thick black smoke pouring out of the man hole, and it hits me, the transformer or power main supply in the man hole or sewer has over heated and exploded.

Sounds nasty but it happens here often in nyc. There is not much we can do but just stand by and let it burn out on its own. Which it does after 20 minutes or so. So we had to call the power company and they sent a crew over to fix it. By the time i left tonight we were able to shut off the generator and had power restored. Something i never knew i learned tonight. Our generator has a underground fuel tank which holds 3000 gallons of disiel for power. As i had to be the one to check the fuel status of the generator to make sure it would last and had enough fuel.

The rest of the night was slow.

Alright - this is gonna sound mean - BUT - have you tried like an airhorn, or something obnoxious and quick sounding. Like slam a cabinet - does he jump?

I had to do this with Sarah. I had to drop books to the floor on each side of her to see if she would turn toward the sound. She never did. We brought her to the hearing doctor and she could hear fine. When we would drop the books, or make noises, and yes, I think we even slammed the door, she was just in her own world and didn't want to play our silly games!

PJ-that's an amazing story. Glad the fire didn't affect all that fuel!!!!

Ok, so I am feeling under the weather and have a pretty busy weekend, so I'm gonna go med up and rest. Hope you all are feeling well! This has been one rotten cold season!!!!

We are totally 2 peas in a pod.

I remember I couldnt tell if Joey (or Danny - cant remember) was breathing one time, in their crib. I was freaked. I was scared to even touch him to see.... so I violently shook the crib. :lmao: :lmao:

He woke up startled, crying but ALIVE! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

PJ--Wow, that's funny about the dispatch being for your address.

I'm back from my doctor appt, and it went great! I loved how he answered all my questions and pricked my arm a bunch. He thinks its the thing where I'm allergic to DH's DNA. I got an anti-cariolipin test, DRVV (which includes the word's VIPER VENOM ROFL ), SSA-SSB antibody, and the folic acid test (MTHFR). I go back in a month. He doesn't think its genetic because I miscarriaged a seemingly healthy and ALIVE baby. He even went back and looked at the email I had sent him before to go over my symptoms I was having. So this is good. I'm feeling like everything will be okay.

Hi gang,

So i'm home from work after a 16 hour day, but i'm off till thursday!

So i'm sitting in the fire house about 2 ish and my cell phone rings, i answer it. Its the chief, and he says " where are you" i know he is up stairs and i say i'm downstairs, he quickly replys " where the f**k are you exactly, meet me by my car and i mean NOW".

At first i'm thinking i'm in trouble or something,i go meet him and i see it in his face andd he says i gotta go grab a few extra radio's and battires for the radios. He tells me to call the captain and let him know i'll be with him for a while. He quickly runs inside to get the radios. I know something has happened and something big.

I want to knw but are scared to find out at thesame time, any thing major will be broadcast on the FDNY's Citywide channel on our radios. I quickly turn mine to that channel and instantly i hear chaos. I can make out the voice of one captain on the radio, a guy i know well, a guy that if he himself was on fire would be calm and cool. This is not what he sounds like on the radio, he is almost screaming and talking a million words a minute and now i'm worried.

Still i'm not sure what has happened for sure and then i hear it, this captain on the radio, says it " I'm delclaring a 10-60, confirm the 10-60. I repeat i'm declaring a confirmed 10-60 central" a 10-60 is a major emergency, something big has happened, still i don't now what.

A 10-60 gets, 20 fire trucks, 15 FDNY ambulances, about 7 chiefs, 15 captains and a whole buch of other toys to the scene. Plus a whole bunch of other rigs to the area on stand by. I see the chief, running to me and the FDNY car and the guys never runs.

He jumps in and tells me to start out to manhattan, of course i ask. All he knows is minutes ago a huge crane has totally collapse, he tells me they are confirming at least 3 dead with scores of others hurt, others are missing. I start to wonder, how big can this job be???

We never made it there, we were canceled and sent back to brooklyn .Still some part of me really wanted to be there. The story goes, a construction company lost a crane meaning that the crance collapsed, one building was totally knocked down and a another is missing a good part of it, there are big nyc buildings and dozens are missing.

as of right now 4 cilivans died, 3 firefighters and 4 rescue medics were hurt but only described as minor injurys. Also 2 other cillivans are describe as being in critical condition and have a low chance of survival. At this exact moment, close to 14 hours later , there are still searches being done and several people are still reported as missing. To make matters worst at 6pm a odor of stove or natural gas could be smelled from the pile and co-ed had to be called in to turn the gas off to the whole block.

PJ!!! I saw this yesterday on the news and was thinking of you!!! Sad about the 4 civilian and glad that you are Ok...

PJ--I saw read that on the internet, too! That's so crazy that happened. Never going to look at a crane the same way again.

Timmy--How's the shrinking plan going? I'm getting ready to start mine back up again.

Well i better get back to work... hihihi shhhhhhhhh

Yes, we are planning on going probably the 3rd week of July for the company picnic again. Maybe we'll go another time...its just so expensive!

My shrinking plan--I want to lose 20 pounds by June.

Chris, are you going this year?

Hi everyone -

Oh my goodness you guy sare cracking me up with these baby stories !!

Morning everyone!

Whirlwind weekend!!!! Let's see...Casey had the districtband contest all day of Saturday. Her Symphonic band AND Jazzband both took 1st's....so now they will be going to the State Contest - but I think the "state" contest is just in Palos Heights this year! hahaha. Then went out with the friends that we're going to fl with on Saturday night...trying to figureo ut a semi - master plan for the week. THEN on Sunday, I threw a surprise 63rd bday party for my mom.....invited her entire office of 75 people & about 40 of them came!!!!!It was so nice! I know she was surprised......but I'm pooped!

PJ - I saw the crane accident on the news & immediately thought of you...my dad's company operates huge cranes & he was saying, it's pretty damn hard to "lose" a crane unless there is some defect with the crane itself. So, when you hear "major disaster" stuff on the radio,,,,does it affect you differently now than it did pre-9/11? I would assume that it does. I know even for me, for a long time, every time CNN would flash teh "breaking news" banner across the screen, I would be worried it was another terrorist attack in some way.

Mich - I'm so sorry you are havign such a hard time. If there is any way you can bring Roman downtown to the Chicago Children's you could easily stop here & drop off Autumn & Gabriel.....OR if he has anything over the summer done....then I could easily come up by you to help.......once my kiddos are out of school. Try to stay positive...these things all may still work out.

OMG, I used to wake Grace up ALL the time to make sure she was breathing! I was convinced, absolutely convinced in my whacko little mind, that because she was actually alive when she was born, since Patrick died, she was going to as well...so once I brought her home alive, I was sure she was gonna die from sids. no kidding, I was 110% convinced!!! Hmm, I wonder if that's why the child still wakes up at night????

Rebecca - I'm glad your doc was able to give you some answers....I hope they are able to figure it out for you. We had all that genetic testing done after Patrick died, & they found nothing.....I mean, I'm glad they found nothing....but answers were still what I wanted kwim?

I leave for Florida in 4 days! I have NO itinerary, NO packing done, NO Easter basket stuff bought...oh yeah & NO shorts that fit my fat butt!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EEEK....I better get busy today.

le'ts see did I forget to respond to anything....oh yea YES we are going to Hershey this summer....I think we're going to tie it in with driving to Vermont for Casey's skating competition....so we will be there June 29, 30th - ish...still need to find hotel & all that stuff.....I think we're going to leave here on the 21st...drive up through Mich, go east thru Canada, stay in Niagara Falls for 2 nights, go over to Burlington Vermont, stay 4 nights, then to Hershey for 2-3 nights......at least that's what I say now when I can actually still AFFORD to put gas in my CRV. .......we'll see what June looks like!

all righty all - have a happymonday!

hey - did anyone go read my DL trippie????? It's the first one I ever wrote!!
Let's see....I leave Friday

Chris & Timmy, and whoever else wants to come--Even if we don't go to the park that day when Chris is around, we'll have to have a DIS meet for dinner or something in Hershey! If you can get away for a while, you should schedule something at the Hershey Spa. They have a kids program over the summer. I got a sweet hands (chocolate lotion used in manicure) and it was great! Next i'm getting a cocoa massage.

Chris--I'm not sure what I'm hoping for. I was glad the dr. had a theory, but the theory kind of sucks. His theory is based on the fact I lost two live (heartbeat) pregnancies at exactly 8.5 weeks both times. We don't know when the first baby died, but the second baby was alive less than 12 hours before I miscarried. There are treatments if he's right, but they aren't guaranteed to work. I just don't know if I could handle the risk. I really want to have another baby through birth, but I'm thinking it may be time to start adopting. We always planned on doing both (birth and adoption) to get a large family. I just couldn't handle it if another baby died because my body saw it as an invader.

You know 9-11, was a life changing event for many including myself. Sadly the life changing event is sometimes not for the better. I noticed post 9-11, i am terrifed of elevators and high rise buildings. I started to become scared of heights and get very uncomfortable in large crowds, even at disney. Happily other things post 9-11 are for the better personally for myself, pre 9-11 i would have told anyone i was headed for a divorce. We were just not getting along very well. Most of my friends and guys at the fire house, said it was just a matter of time before myself or dw filied for a divorce. I swear post sept 11, well we have not argued once or had one fight. After seeing all that horror, the dumb things just don't matter anymore and are not worth fighting over. You know now and days the FDNY's biggest worrie is bio-logical or chemical warfare, or a dirty bomb.

I had one good friend who is a FDNY fire marshall in charge of the FDNY anti-terrorism intelligent unit. They are combined with the NYPD's same unit. He said something one day that blew me away. He said it is not if they attack us with chemical or bio-logical or a dirty bomb, it's just of matter of when they attack us with this stuff.

You know i have to answer yes, to your question. Pre 911, whenever anything went down i used to think accident, well now you know what i think whenever anything goes down that is big. I guess it's a good way to live, i start looking for secondary devices. Years ago they had a "mock" attack/ training exercise at yankee stadium. It was all fake but just to see how the FDNY,NYPD,EMS and all the other agencys respond and handle it.

Me and my guys found the secondary device ment to kill us, while everyone else walked pass the odd looking suit case, i reported it and asked that until we knew what was in the suit case, that that area remain a frozen zone and no one be allowed near it. The chief, had us rope off that area and 20 minutes later a fake bomb went off in the suit case and killed noone cause no one was near it and the area roped off. My chief was so proud and it made him look like his "guys" meaning us really knew what they were doing.

So about that whole crane accident. You don't work 10 years in the FDNY without having a few friends in high places. Last night for st- pattys day a whole bunch of us in the FDNY, NYPD and EMS got together at a local pub, i know i'm not even irish, but thats no excuse to have a few ones with some old friends. The owner of the crane company is screwed!!!! If he stays out of jail it will be a mircale!! For what my friends are telling me, this guy had 9 violations in the last week alone at the construction site. The nyc's building dept, ordered a cease all work at that construction site due to unsafe conditions, 24 hours before the thing collapsed.

Form what i'm told the crane should have not been in operation at all and closed. The person operating the crane at the time of the incident, was not trained or licensed at the time to operate such a heavy machine and had only been with the company 2 days and had no crane training or had never operated a crane before that day. The crane just did'nt oddly collapse, unsafe working, unsafe postioning and unsafe malfuctioning parts on the crane as well as the crane was not secured for its own weight to the ground caused the collapsed. These were all things the company was given summons for just 12 hours before. They were told other things can be done at the site, but the crane stays off. They did not listen.

I'm not 100% sure about the rumor above, only that it came from the mouth of a friend i trust very well and believe and is the kind of person that would know this infomation, since he is very "high" up in the NYPD's investagative unit. I for one believe it.

Now for my own problems, well we are moving. Today about 5 different contractors were supposed to come to the new place and give me an estimate. 1 guy showed up and he said he only does painting and walls. I asked him, why he had come after i told him over the phone what i needed and he said he thought he could handle the job, but once there knew it was too big for him. He appeared to be one of those young kids, that has a normal job monday thru friday, and just paints on the weekends for x-tra money. I need a contractor. I have a few more comming tommorrow, if they show up.

In the mean time me and dw are refinishing the wood cabinets in the new place in the kitchen. I am amazed to how nice they are comming out and how fast, since we only started them this morning. I would say they are close to 60% done. One of the guys at the fire house does this professional on the side, he gave me a few pointers on how to do it quick, but really nice. The trick is to sand them first with an elertical sander, then to apply stripper to them.

PJ--That's great you guys discovered the suitcase. When I'm at the airport I'm always on the lookout for suspicious devices. This is still the move next door, right?
