Last year on our trip we bought the popcorn buckets. Can we use them during our upcoming trips or do we have to buy new ones?

They are not refillable, so you have to buy new ones.

Yes, you have to buy new ones. I have like 15 of them here at home that we use for the beach!!! They are pretty good souveniers.
