POP vs Poly

We love POP and I have thrown out the suites at Music and the kids all want to go back to POP. I have now found out we can got to the Poly for just a little more money then the 2 rooms at POP. I have 2 things going thru my mind, 1-we will probably miss the second bathroom, but I think it would be doable, 2-at POP, it is not guaranteed we will have 2 rooms together. It will be myself, DH, DD19, DD15 and DS15.

We will be celebrating my 40th birthday and our 10th anniversary and doing 1 park day and 1 waterpark day, the other days will be at the hotel relaxing.

What do you think? Should I go for it and change the reservation?

I kind-of think of this question as like asking whether you should buy a Hyundai Accent or a BMW 528i, given that you're planning on doing a lot of car trip vacations over the next few years. YMMV.

You will LOVE the Poly! We were used to staying at the moderates and decided to treat ourselves last year to the Poly and I don't know if we will ever go back to any other resort. You will be so close to the magic! There is nothing more magical then laying at the beach listening to the ferryboats while looking at the castle! I also think your teenagers+ will enjoy the more grown-up, yet Disney-ish style. With our various ages - it pleases everyone!

No, not really. Some folks cannot afford a BMW 528i, and the Hyundai Accent will get them there as well, though perhaps not as comfortably. I meant what I said, literally, that it is really the same kind of decision: Spending more to get more, balanced against elements of affordability and value perception.

I enjoy Pop. We have stayed there twice and had a great time. BUT... I LOVE the Poly! The Polynesian Resort is a destination in itself. Many more options like 'Ohana, Kona, Tambu Lounge (best Mai Tai's on the planet), volcano pool, luau, boats (Sea Racers, pontoons, Boston Whalers), monorail, shopping, access to 3 resorts within 10 minutes, Hawaiian music where ever you go (even underwater at the pools), Electrical Water Pageant, fireworks from the beach, tiki-torch lit walkways, awesome landscaping, beautiful views of the Grand Floridian (I love it at night all lit up) and Contemporary (watching the monorail go through it), and photo ops every where. You could spend hours going to different resorts (Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness) on the ferry boats. Walk to the TTC and take the mono to EPCOT and back (you don't have to go to the park to ride the mono). And yes... I will be there in July wearing the ugliest Hawaiian shirt, Mai Tai in one hand, my new Canon in the other. With me will be DW, DD30, DD14(OOPS), SIL, and for the first time... wait for it.... wait for it.... GRANDKIDS!

At their ages it isn't especially necessary that you have rooms right by each other.

I'd say it's more like a comparison between a Hyundai minivan vs. a BMW [something that just barely seats 5 adults/near-adult-sized-people]. (Sorry, not a car person!) Plenty of room in the minivan but fewer amenities. Two rooms at Pop would provide a different kind of comfort than a single room at Poly.

I agree.
Sharing a hotel room w/ 3 teenagers doesn't sound like a vacation. I would get 2 rooms at a value or moderate.

DH and I will be sharing one room with three college kids at the Poly in August. There will be very little sleeping.... lots of late nights and early mornings.

I guess it all depends on what you want out of the vacation.... family time or alone time.

I've never been to the Pop, but if you want to do something different to celebrate your birthday, i would go for the Poly.

I would go with the Polynesian because you will get bigger rooms, more transportation options, more dining locations and a much better overall location.

this would be true for under 18.

but one of your kids is over 19. you will be fine with 2 rooms at Pop - ask for adjoining (not connecting)

Poly hands down, esp since you are planning very little park time, and will be at the resort lots. Poly is beautiful, lush grounds, great beach where you can watch Wishes, on monorail so it's easy to get to other monorail resorts for dining, shopping, etc. Great pool, with a decent slide, marina. Your kids may enjoy renting the SeaRaycers, lots of fun. And it's peacfull, you feel like you're at a resort! IMO the value resorts are crowded feeling, and more noisy.

you might consider a 1-bedroom at BLT.

you get your own master bedroom - put all the kids in the livingroom area.

blt has a chair bed and queen sleeper sofa in the livingroom.

it has 2 bathrooms. a kitchen, laundry room.

would suggest renting a reservation thru a DVC member = but if you don't trust this you can get it thru Disney. (but it is expensive)
