I'm thinking about getting a nice wooded pop-up trundle bed for my guest room. If you have one, can you comment on how comfortable it is? I'm wondering if over time the mattresses still stay the same height when they are together. Also, I know the beds both take just the mattress without the box springs. How comfy is that to sleep on?

DD has one and I find it pretty comfortable. We've haven't used the trundle part yet, but it does have a mattress on it. The frame is pretty supportive....plenty for a guest room! She jumps on hers all the time and I don't notice any sag or damage. The pop-up is easy to function and allows us to have room for cousins when they visit, but not have to have a big bed in DD's room. I know some people who when they use it as a king, put a king mattress pad on the two to keep them together better, or may put an "eggcrate" pad on it to disguise the crease in the middle. We haven't used ours as a king yet, so can't comment on that part. Personally, I think it's a great set-up, especially for a guest or kid's room.

As for the sag issue, I think that mostly depends on the quality of the mattress you purchase....

I had heard that the pop up mechanism (not mattress) is the one that might, over time, get a little lower thus making the mattress heights uneven. But since you haven't used yours much I guess you wouldn't notice yet.

We have one and we love it. We keep it downstairs in our finished basement. My parents are the main users of it and they have no problems with them at all. And believe me, my mother would tell me!! They are 76 years old and both sleep quite comfortably on them. We bought the lowest priced Sealy Posturepedics and have had no sagging issues. Also, we don't have it set up with a day bed--just the beds themselves. I bought a nice coverlet set with matching bolster pillows from JC Penney and it looks pretty good with a few added throw pillows.

We used to have one that, after about 10-15 years of use, tended to pop down unexpectedly sometimes. Before that started happening, it was fine. Both beds just have the upper mattress and no box spring. There are mattresses made just for trundle beds. They have extra reinforcements around the edges so that you don't wear out the sides if you sit on it like a couch.
