Pop Century

We have never felt the need for a perferred room either. Even the furthest away room is not that far. Instead we just took $10 a day and rented the fridge and saved some money by eating in the room once in awhile and storing large milk and water, juice... etc. We thought we would use this more and then we wouldn't have to be like the people we seen at the ice machine with 2 garbage cans filling them up completly with ice and taking it to there rooms.:sad2: This was so much easier!

First time we had preferred but not poolside ( our request) Next time I was solo and didn't and the walk was long to me but I didn't mind!! Next year we are all going and DD wants poolside in the 60's which is preferred! It is an individual choice , what is a waste to some is a convenience to others!

We stayed at ASMo last May and did not get a Preferred room. I did not mind the walk all the way to the back in the Mighty Ducks building. We weren't too far from the MD pool either. We opted on a few occasions to get dropped off at ASMu from the bus stop as it was closer to our room.

We are staying at Pop this May (honeymoon and DD12 in tow) and DID get a preferred room. I dislocated my knee in October and ended up having a scope done and my PT has suggested minimal walking (at WDW yeah right :rotfl2: ) so to compensate, I requested a preferred room on 1st floor near the hippy dippy pool. Yes, I know the noise may be an issue, but DD12 LOVES going to the pool and well, I figure this may be worth it this time. I'm actually also considering Kids Nite Out babysitting to see if I can get DD12 to go do something out of the room while soon-to-be DH and I have some ::ahem:: ;) alone time in the room and maybe watch a movie or something. Yeah, watch a movie. :rotfl2:

I wasn't sure if the babysitting services would actually take the kids to the pool or not and with her being only 12, I really didn't want her at the pool by herself for any length of time. Even though she, of course, insists she is plenty old enough to be at the pool by herself for a little while since there are lifeguards and everything!!!!:rolleyes1

But we'll play that by ear. I told soon-to-be-DH that we'll probably be too tired to do much of anything other than shower and sleep in the room!

Getting a preferred room at a value resort is the monetary equivilent of getting a supersized extra value meal with a diet coke at McDonalds.

I have never stayed at a value without a preffered room. Back in the late 90's you used to be able to stay at the All star resorts and request a certain building. (I would always request calypso at AS Mu) Then they caught on and started charging a bit more for it. To me, it's worth the very few extra dollars to get the closer rooms. I like to use the food court and mug refills. It's a pain to have to walk to a far away room to drop off mugs in the morning or to pick them up at the end of a long day and then walk all the way back to the food court for a drink. I hate to carry the mugs around all day so to me, being as close to the main building/foodcourt is a must!

We paid for a preferred room at POP in September and the room location was horrible!! The 60's building, back side, view of nothing, far away from the elevator, pool, food court & bus loop. We had alot more dissappointing issues at POP in September, so don't plan on going back. In January, we stayed at ASMu and didn't pay for a preferred room and had a much better location & overall vacation there. JMHO..........:cutie:

We stayed preferred room last Sept when we traveled with my parents. My mom has a little trouble with her knees and by the end of the long days at the parks, it was really nice for her not to have to walk very far to get to her room. It was also nice for my daughter, who is getting to old to carry, but also don't know when to say when and will go full steam until she drops. She usually fell asleep on the bus ride back, but at least when we woke her, it wasn't far to the room.

we are getting the prefered with out package, not sure what it all means, what building its in or anything. anyone got info on this? How does one find out where one is staying at before hand??
thanks

I always do, I just want to make sure I'm close to the pool and buses.

We did it on our trip in March and will do it again in the future. Our room was 2 minutes to the car, 2 minutes to the food court and 2 minutes to the buses. Late at night it was a relief to not carry two sleeping children across the property, up a flight of stairs and across a building to a room!

We did bc we will have 2 small children... any suggestions on what room to request?

Check out the POP FAQ thread - it has tons of info on room requests. I think the link to the map is probably from that thread, so if you click on that you'll find the thread.
