POP Century~Unofficially the Grooviest FAQ Thread #8~July 2013

Just got back from a stay at Pop from 9-2 to 9-8. No working fridge and when I spoke to the concierge desk telling them that I needed one for medical purposes they told me they were all out of fridges and when I said I wanted the credit for the trouble to haul ice and keep a cooler... they said they would provide me with a shoe box sized box that would keep medicine cold. I was unhappy but I figured that I could keep an orange juice cold in the room for the fiber that my sweetie needs to take every morning for his IBS, which was my medical need.

Then we go to the park and return to find NO shoebox sized box that will keep medicine cold. So I go back down to the concierge desk and the girl tells me that because of free dining and all the check ins they didn't have any fridges OR any boxes. So I pressed for my credit for the inconvenience of hauling ice back to my room every day to keep the orange juice cold that my sweetie needed for his morning fiber, and they delivered a fridge to our room within the hour.

It took two trips to the concierge desk, and my being VERY assertive that I wanted the credit before action was taken. SO... stand your ground ladies and gents!!!!! Or they will just brush you under the carpet with all the other complaints.

The whole family is very excited about our first Pop stay :cool1: and so as one of our movie nights we are doing a Pop Century night :thumbsup2 Well watch Jungle Book or Roger Rabbit, play twister, and.... :confused3

So I came here to the Pop experts! Any ideas on what to make for dinner? Dessert? (I do NOT think I can handle a tie dyed cheesecake) Any other party ideas? Thanks!

Chocolate pudding with dirt (crumbled oreo, cookie part only) and gummy worms, there are also ice cream sundaes, cup cakes with themed Pop decorations. Can you tell I like dessert!

IMHO that's an awful lot of stress to get a fridge or credit for orange juice. The medical need in this case I find quite a stretch. I could understand if the actual medicine needed to be kept cold like insulin etc. I'm not expecting a fridge even though it was listed as an amenity when I booked. We're just planning to manage with ice. I'll save the few fridges for those who have a significant need to refrigerate their medicine or babies milk.

I went down the front desk and asked about a fridge, got one delivered to the room within a half hour at 11pm

Checked in today. We are in the 50s section like i requested and we are so close to the main building it takes a minute to get there! I have a fridge but it has a sign on it saying not to use it. My magic bands are working really well! Its been a great first day!!

Yeah, I know a lot of people like the KING cupcake but personally, I think it is rather gross! LOL! I think the carrot cake is quite tasty, If you like carrot cake.

And even if you don't participate, it's always entertaining to watch the CM'S do the Hustle in the food court at 6pm!

What is the king cupcake?

Taken from Mouseforless:

Don't miss the "King Cupcake," a tribute to Elvis Presley with a little of all of his favorite flavors: chocolate cupcake filled with banana custard, peanut butter icing, topped with candied bacon and drizzled with chocolate.

It is a chocolate cupcake with a banana creme filling and it has either vanilla or cream cheese icing (I can't recall which) and then it is sprinkled with some bacon bit flavored type crumb topping and finally it has a little edible approx 1 in square POP signature sugar piece.
Personally, for me, too many flavors to mix together....so I did not like the taste, I thought it was gross. But many love it. :)

I'm posting this question here rather than the Theme Parks board because so many people there don't have access to MBs and it just gets confusing...

We're checking into Pop 10/31. Has anyone with a late October/early November check in been able to get FP+s for any of the night time shows? There were very few choices for FP+ when I made my picks - I know there are more rides that FP+ works on than what came up for me.

You may find it a stretch, but living with IBS is miserable. Timing in the fiber regimen is important to keeping things regular and it is critical to being able to function in the parks without constantly looking for bathrooms. Lines for the rides are unpredictable and you can't always get to a bathroom right away. If they have too few fridges to accommodate everyone, then they need to buy more fridges... not inconvenience the people who expected the amenities that they paid for.

We check in Oct. 19 and all I've been able to book (other than rides) is a FP for Saturday & Sunday nights. I've booked both nights, but will cancel one when it gets closer and we have a better idea what we will be doing...hopefully Wishes or Fantasmic, if they ever become available.

It's not just us; from what I've read, the parades, Wishes, Fantasmic & Be Our Guest lunch FP+'s have not been released yet. Since we're still in the testing stage, there is no way to know whether they will become available or not. But I'm sure checking regularly!

I just returned from our POP vacation. Here are some of our experiences at POP.

We chose to do the on-line check-in and I'm so glad that we did! The line for regular check in was very long and the on-line check-in line was significantly shorter. I had put requests on the room when we did the on-line check-in (70's and lake view) and received both with no issues.

I had ordered a case of water to be delivered to POP and mentioned to the CM checking me in that I had placed the order before receiving the letter about the refrigerators. I requested we be given one but was told that they were reserved for people with medical requirements. I asked if we would be given compensation and received the $15 with no drama at all. We were also told we could leave items with the bell check if we needed refrigeration.

When we arrived to the room there was a fridge in the room with a note on the front that it was not to be used. However, it was plugged in - and had leftovers from the prior occupant in there!

Other than the fridge (which I assume wasn't checked since it wasn't SUPPOSED to be used), the room was very clean. We don't like the very heavy bedspreads, so we removed them each night. After a couple of days, we had new, lighter bedspreads put in the room without us even asking.

We ate in the food court a few times for breakfast and once for dinner. All stations were open each time we went. The breakfasts were okay, but a little boring after a few times eating there. For dinner, DH had the spring roll sub and it was not good. I had the tofu and vegetables (I am not vegetarian). I ordered it because I asked to see the vegetables before ordering it (the photos on the menu boards can be deceiving). The CM told me I couldn't see it because it was made to order each time. That sold me, so I ordered it and it was very good!

The RFID mugs went live on Tuesday. They were pretty easy to use and we had no issues. Only the sodas required the RFID. Coffee was not included.

We also had no major issues with the magic bands. I liked them! I was able to use MDE to change our fast passes as needed. The only thing I didn't like was Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom and Agent P in Epcot were not set up to use the magic bands. I didn't know we needed our "back up" cards and when we arrived at the fire hall, we had to go to guest services and have new cards made up and then had to return to the fire hall to get our cards.

Overall, we had a great time. If anyone has anything in particular that I can answer, let me know!
