Pop Century Room Renovations

Hi Bluezy:

I appreciate your sentiments. I'm going to admit, I have never dug my heels in with an attitude on any subject in the forums, so this is a first, and please know that I am *****ing, but not at you.

I am actually a very health 56 year old woman. I know that putting the bed up and down would not be a problem for me personally. That being said, I still don't think that the room is a traveler friendly design. I don't want to have to put the bed up and down (easy or not). And if I decide to keep it down...I want a table in my room that (to my knowledge) every piece of nothing hotel / motel in the USA has in their standard rooms. I insist that I don't know what they were thinking about. I can only presume this will be the design for the entire resort refurb.... which will be disappointing for my next trip. I may have to upgrade to AOA or POFQ.

What I am pleased about is having the forums to provide me with this info, so I know to request the room that I had in 2015 - in the 50's building by the lake. Actually looking forward to staying in the rooms that are not yet under construction.

Blessings!

Ahhh, gotcha! :) I certainly understand the bed and table issue...though for me, if I was a solo traveler or traveling with my husband, the new rooms at Pop wouldn't be a problem -- that 2nd bed would never be opened and we'd always have a table. However, if traveling with the kids, it's more of an issue as we do eat breakfast in the room most days so it's nice to have a table -- even if we can't all sit down at once (which we rarely do anyway in that situation). We're heading to Disney next June and I kind of wanted to do 2 rooms at Pop instead of a suite at AoA but my husband saw the rooms and thinks they will just be too tight for us...so we're staying at AoA again (which is fine with me...we like it there). I will say that I've noticed a lot of standard hotel rooms that I've stayed in over the last 2 years or so (everything from Comfort Suites to Holiday Inn Express to The Ritz Carlton) don't have a table in them anymore -- just a large desk with one chair. Which is fine for a solo traveler, but not so great with 2 or more people. I usually end up taking a folding tray or lap desks to use in the room just because there's not enough space for 4 or 5 of us to set up laptops or <gasp> order pizza and eat in the room. I wish hotels would have more tables in the rooms. I can't remember which hotel we stayed at where they actually had "stacking" tables that stayed under the desk if you didn't need them but you could pull them out and use them at the beds if you wanted to. Not perfect, but better than nothing.

Fortunately, it looks like you should be good to get one more stay in at Pop and still have a current standard room. If you haven't done this already, you could look at the Touring Plans website and use their Room Request Fax service to specifically request the room you want to stay in. Even if there's not a specific room that you want, it can still help to get you in the general area. We've had great success in using that service for our suites at AoA on our last few trips.

We travel a LOT with my daughters all star cheer squad, at a lot of different hotels. Not all of them have a table in the room. Majority do, but we have encountered rooms without tables enough times that we don't plan for one.

Absolutely.
I know this is all just fine for many people. It just wouldn't work for me... or I'd just have pat myself on the butt and get happy about the new design and roll with it. It's not the end of the world.

Yes, unless I decide to accept the design, it looks like this will be my last chance to stay there. I do indeed "FAVOR" Pop, and while I am turned off by the design... there are bigger fish to fry in the disappointment department. We have to pick and choose our Disney battles. I may still just stick with Pop (but POFQ... is long over due for me now!). :flower:

Blessings!

We are staying at Pop 7/17-7/26. I requested being in 80's building in hopes of getting new room. Do you think I have a good chance in 80's or should we request 90's? (We would rather stay in 80's, but really want a renovated room.)

We will be there right after you, and are also hoping for an 80's room. I am going to wait and see what everyone on here says in the next couple of weeks. If the 80's aren't ready, I will request the 90's building. Honestly, when we originally made our reservation, we didn't know about the renovations. We just like the 80's section. We also like being able to walk through the parking lot to the bus area. It makes it pretty easy.

Following. We'll be there for Thanksgiving and I'd like to get the new rooms if possible. It'll be my twins and my MIL's first trip.

Great question, we are there from August 24-Sep 2 and have the same question.
Our dates are almost the same. We'll be there 8/26-9/2 and I'm hoping for a new room as well. I loved our 60's lake view on our last trip much more than our 80's room on our first trip though so I'm torn. Surprise DS with a freshly renovated room (he loves little surprises) VS requesting a room location that I love. I don't know which I want more LMAO

Just a question (forgive me if asked).... Are there still King bed rooms available and if so, are they refurbished and does anyone have pics or info? Thanks in advance!

We will walk through parking lot to busses also. So much shorter. I may call Pop a few days before we go to check on 80's vs 90's.

Yes, there are still rooms with a King bed, and they are being refurbished. I believe very few have been done to-date, but there are pictures on page 42 in post #825 and bluezy gives a description:

There are pictures of a nearly finished King room on page 42 (post 825) of this thread. In the King rooms, the beverage center is moved over to the same wall as the bed and there is a nice size table (2 chairs fit side-by-side on the long side of it) on the same wall as the dresser. You'll be able to see it in the pictures.

I will tell you that I called to make a reservation a few days ago and was told by a person in guest services that there are no Handicap rooms available. She told me there were ALL down for refurbishment. This was not an agent at the call center, this was a person in the 'back room'. I don't know much about these rooms, are they all located together? I had thought they were spread out through the resort.

OK my question is: does anyone know if the new TV's have HDMI ports, USB ports, and how many? I am planning on bringing my Roku with us for our trip. I know, who stays in their room that much but my BF using needs certain TV shows on to fall asleep to. And I have VUDU, Hulu, Netflix, and a bunch of other sites that we have movies and shows loaded onto.

Thank you! We aren't going until beginning of November and are highly considering changing our reservations from ASMu to POP. It's right around $90 for our 5 night reservation, but would be worth it!

Quick update:

Just walked around the resort about 2 pm and both buildings 7 and 9 are totally shut down. Lots of work going on- heavy, loud construction work. Not last minute adding of furniture and soft goods.

They are painting building 6 in the 70's section.

It is very loud around the 70's and 80's section (using a loud machine for the painting).

If I planned on coming back to the resort for afternoon down time or quiet time, I think I would go with the 50's section.

I never noticed anything during the last five nights, but I was gone for about 14-16 hours a day, so construction didn't affect me at all.

Still nothing going on around bridge. After talking to some cast members, it seems no one is expecting any bridge or any work near bridge any time soon.
