Hi Bluezy:
I appreciate your sentiments. I'm going to admit, I have never dug my heels in with an attitude on any subject in the forums, so this is a first, and please know that I am *****ing, but not at you.
I am actually a very health 56 year old woman. I know that putting the bed up and down would not be a problem for me personally. That being said, I still don't think that the room is a traveler friendly design. I don't want to have to put the bed up and down (easy or not). And if I decide to keep it down...I want a table in my room that (to my knowledge) every piece of nothing hotel / motel in the USA has in their standard rooms. I insist that I don't know what they were thinking about. I can only presume this will be the design for the entire resort refurb.... which will be disappointing for my next trip. I may have to upgrade to AOA or POFQ.
What I am pleased about is having the forums to provide me with this info, so I know to request the room that I had in 2015 - in the 50's building by the lake. Actually looking forward to staying in the rooms that are not yet under construction.
Blessings!
Ahhh, gotcha!
I certainly understand the bed and table issue...though for me, if I was a solo traveler or traveling with my husband, the new rooms at Pop wouldn't be a problem -- that 2nd bed would never be opened and we'd always have a table. However, if traveling with the kids, it's more of an issue as we do eat breakfast in the room most days so it's nice to have a table -- even if we can't all sit down at once (which we rarely do anyway in that situation). We're heading to Disney next June and I kind of wanted to do 2 rooms at Pop instead of a suite at AoA but my husband saw the rooms and thinks they will just be too tight for us...so we're staying at AoA again (which is fine with me...we like it there). I will say that I've noticed a lot of standard hotel rooms that I've stayed in over the last 2 years or so (everything from Comfort Suites to Holiday Inn Express to The Ritz Carlton) don't have a table in them anymore -- just a large desk with one chair. Which is fine for a solo traveler, but not so great with 2 or more people. I usually end up taking a folding tray or lap desks to use in the room just because there's not enough space for 4 or 5 of us to set up laptops or <gasp> order pizza and eat in the room. I wish hotels would have more tables in the rooms. I can't remember which hotel we stayed at where they actually had "stacking" tables that stayed under the desk if you didn't need them but you could pull them out and use them at the beds if you wanted to. Not perfect, but better than nothing.Fortunately, it looks like you should be good to get one more stay in at Pop and still have a current standard room. If you haven't done this already, you could look at the Touring Plans website and use their Room Request Fax service to specifically request the room you want to stay in. Even if there's not a specific room that you want, it can still help to get you in the general area. We've had great success in using that service for our suites at AoA on our last few trips.
