Pop Century Room Renovations

How many rooms are done? I'm travelling early August and would book here if my chances of a new room were high.

Hi everyone... I checked into Pop yesterday and am the first person to stay in my refurbished room! :dogdance: I did request a room in the 90's section hoping I'd luck out.

To make sure this is 100% settled, yes - BOTH the regular bed and the murphy bed are Queen sized! (The bed and pillows are so comfortable!) The manager actually came around shortly after I checked in yesterday, I think just making sure no one was experiencing any problems with the brand new rooms.

As someone mentioned, the room I am in does not have a tub and I am told that some have them and some don't.

I am not great at estimating TV size but figured it had to be at least a 55 inch. The manager told me they are all 60 inch!

The fridge does not have a freezer section.

I did have an issue trying to get into my room; but after I used the courtesy phone by the elevator they sent someone right away to help let me in and a few minutes after that someone from Engineering came to fix it.

I like the new rooms except I'd rather have carpet. I'm amazed at how many people are complaining about lack of storage space. It looks like there is plenty of storage especially with the shelves in the bathroom. We go for at least a week, sometimes more, and only take a backpack each. I can't imagine bringing hanging organizers and bins lol.

The issue (at least for me -- can't speak for others) is that there's not enough drawers/clothing storage. There's plenty of space in the bathroom cubbies for toiletries and other odds and ends but I really don't want my clothing stacked in a cubby and falling on the floor every time I (or more likely the kids) try to get something out. I wish they would have put six drawers in the dresser and put the safe in one of the bathroom cubbies. I don't do laundry on vacation, so unless we're only staying 2-3 days, I'd never be able to pack in a backpack. We're there in June and usually go through 2 shirts a day and one pair of shorts a day so we're looking at having at least 15 shirts and 8-10 pair of shorts per person...not to mention underwear, socks, bras, pajamas, swimming suits, cover-ups, 2 or 3 pair of shoes per person, etc. times 4 people in the room. Plus we drive to Disney (2 days each way) so we have even more clothing. But it's all good. We'll just stay at AoA until all of the kids are off on their own and it's just my husband and I traveling to Disney.

Well, unless a bathtub will be a bookable category (and it may be) I can see lots of young families upset when they walk in to just a shower. And the new options, particularly bed sizes, will probably lend this to a sold out hotel most nights, it will be more difficult to change rooms.

It seems to me that what I felt early on in this, even more now .......... dualing queens or potential for just one bed and desk making room feel bigger, rooms with no tubs, sleek modern with minimal Disney decor among other appointments ............ this hotel is gearing up to be marketed to adult groups. We are already an adult group and I avoid Movies because I know young families love it. And for those with four adults, maybe some splitting cost of room ....... a higher price point is more palatable.

Since I feel all Disney hotels are going to be restructured and have changes ......... I wonder if POP will gain any other amenities. Pretty sure it opened with an indoor bar which is now seating for food court. I know last few times I went by the outdoor bar was very busy. I could see some small perks added (already hearing of towels at the pool). Should be fun to follow along all this hotel changing.

LOL. i'm just concerned about the clothing storage. We have four people for 16 nights. It's a lot of clothes for three drawers, two shelves, and that little closet. I think we'll have to ask for more hangers.

Have you considered packing cubes? Put 3 or 4 days per cube and then unpack one cube at a time, once you are through those outfits gather up the dirty stuff pack it back in its cube and take the next cube out for the next 3 or 4 days worth of outfits. Keep suitcases stored under the bed with clothes currently not unpacked.

It appears to me there is more storage than in the previous rooms that basically had 3 drawers and 2 smaller cubbies. If the tv is the reported 60" the 3 drawers below + 2 shelves should be a good size. Add in the cubbies in the bathroom and it looks like more. Is there any storage room in the coffe stand?

For those in the rooms, hoe does the storage compare to you?

The bathroom storage definitely looks like more, and I'm excited about that. But the vanity and cubbies took away from the closet area. There was also a long shelf above the closet and that's gone now.
I think there were two drawers (maybe just one) in the nightstand previously that we used to use for clothing.

The coffee stand has open shelves above which are shallow and only one thin drawer for coffee supplies.

We will just have to rotate clothes out of the suitcases, which we used to do before also. And maybe I'll try the packing cubes as suggested.

We know one is a Queen, but the other one is looking more like a Queen than a double to me (Murphy stick out further than the Queen bed). On the old rooms, we were able to squeeze a pack and play either between the beds or next to the bed by the wall. These were a tight fit, but looking at the pictures, we wouldn't be able to do either. (both much smaller now). I don't need a pack and play this time around, but this is how I am trying to "measure" the dimensions in my head.
I'm also wondering where does the pack and play will go? I'm sure there is room somewhere! unless they stopped offering them, they had to keep room for it, I don't think inflatables mattress will fit anymore

The closet is about a quarter size of what it used to be. Cubbies are useless for clothes, unless you want to pull everything in the cubby out (or have it all fall on the floor) any time you need one thing.

Looking for a pic of the bureau? I know it was here somewhere, but can't seem to find it! If someone could repost it, I'd really, really appreciate it! :-)

What about using packing cubes and leaving your clothes in the cubes in the cubbies?

Oh, be aware that their room did not have a tub, only a shower. This was not an accessible room. It was a regular room. They were told that some rooms have tubs and some don't. That could be a problem for those with small children that take baths.
(I tried posting a link to the video, but you have to be a member of the page to view it. The page is called "I'm So Disney..." if you want to join it.)
Conversely, it's ideal for others. I haven't taken a bath in maybe 45 years.
I was planning on calling tomorrow to make a request for our reservation tomorrow anyways but question...

How would I request a renovated room?

"Hey I just wanted to make a request for either a renovated room or a standard King room?"

Or

"Queen or King room?"
"I'd like to submit a request for a renovated room." ? Or just request a room in the 80's.
Don't! what if you forget how to open the safe later?
I think you know ;)

they'd buy very expensive Disney underwear :D
but I really don't want my clothing stacked in a cubby and falling on the floor every time I (or more likely the kids) try to get something out.
You could roll everything a stack of sideways in the funniest - after you fill the three seemingly deep drawers - so that the roller ends are facing out.

Maybe once the renovations are complete, it will be a bookable category?

If I have to buy packing cubes, I'd rather spend the money on a different resort If a space doesn't work for me (and these new rooms DEFINITELY don't), I choose a resort that will work without having to twist myself in circles.
Okay, then, choose a different resort :confused3 Odds are no drastic changes are going to be made to the current design of furnishings. Or like I suggested above, roll your clothes. Or buy (yeah, I know) luggage that doubles as a bureau - HSN.com, search for Joy Mangano Luggage. Or visit before the renovations are done.

I am sure they won't, so we won't be staying there anymore. Too bad, as Pop used to be a great place for us to stay.

Have stayed at POP around 12 nights with just DS and I, so I know we can survive it. But I would guess that the number of folks who decide to stay in a Value for 16 nights is very low. The room is likely not designed with your group in mind.

Maybe. I wonder how many there will be? Supply and demand, they could have fewer and charge more. OR they could just make it a non-guaranteed request, forcing guests to other resorts if it's a must have.

I would think closer to the front door. I always forget how small Pop rooms are until I get there, and it will feel even smaller with the Murphy down (but not complaining about the bigger beds!). At least it can flip up in the daytime.
