Pop Century Room Renovations

Mickey & Pluto are my absolute faves so I'm ecstatic about the surprise of the Murphy bed art. I checkin to pop in 11 days. Fingers crossed I get one. Thanks to everyone taking time out of their vacations to bring us these pics!!

Thanks! I know I was anxiously awaiting myself!

The beverage center doesn't move (like the whole unit), but the beverage cooler does a bit. The shelves within the cooler are adjustable. Also the beverage center has a light under one of the shelves and on the top to add even more light to the room (see below)!

Thanks for the pictures! Is that light in the fridge illuminated when the fridge door is closed? If so, I may be hanging a towel in front of that at night. I prefer pitch black when sleeping. Also, just for the sake of reference, what size laptop is that sitting on the table?

Thank you for the pictures. For those of you in a new room (and who didn't bring a tape measure - how dare you) can you lay dollar bills across the bed to measure it. A US bill is 6 1/4 inches so we would be able to get a good idea what size bed it is.

I wonder if pillows would fit on top of the bed cabinet to be out of the way when the bed is closed.

I really like the new rooms. However, I don't think I want to stay there with the kids even if we have connecting rooms. I'm just not confident that we will have enough storage space. All the cubbies in the vanity area are great, but they're not exactly "clothing friendly". I can see stuff falling on the floor all the time. Maybe at some point someone will measure all of the various sized cubbies and I can then figure out if I can take collapsible fabric bins to use in them (I would totally do that for everyone if *I* was there. :D Maybe someone will be there on a stormy afternoon and have a tape measure handy. lol.). There's also the issue of not appearing to have space for a twin-size air mattress. So for now, I don't think Pop is going to be competing with AoA for our business for quite awhile. I'm a little sad about it.

Just a thought..... I think it would be pretty easy to stuff the extra pillows in a cubby or two in the vanity area. If you're a solo traveler I would imagine there will be plenty of empty cubbies in that area. You could also stuff them in the clear trash bags (there are usually numerous extras in the bottom of each trash can) and then put them under the queen bed.

None of the major hospitals in my area have white walls in the rooms -- they're all quite "homey" now with comfy chairs, pretty curtains, and softly colored walls. If you checked into a hospital here, it would have more color than the Pop Century rooms (though I still like the Pop rooms).

I'm wondering the same thing. I think there's room for one hanging sweater holder/shelves in that closet. I'm hoping many of the cubbies are sizes that a standard collapsible bin will fit in so we can use them as "drawers". But I'm sill not convinced there's enough "convenient/usable" storage space for 4 people in those rooms. I really don't want to look at clothing just randomly stuffed in the cubbies. And I know that no matter how neatly I fold and stack everyone's clothing in the cubbies, they're still going to dig through them and make a mess. :D
That is exactly my point! We usually do 10/11 nights and I don't do laundry! So we take enough clothing... plus toiletries etc to last the trip. 3 hanging shelves worked well.... now not sure what to do

Does it help to know the ironing boards aren't, and never were, hung for decorative purposes but for space efficiency? Maybe try stacking your luggage in front of it?

Shouldn't that be "darn you people enjoying your vacations without a tape measure!"? :D Now, if anybody is five feet tall, they could lie crosswise on the Murphy bed and see if they fit completely...
Drat. I'm EXACTLY five feet tall. But I won't be there until November. :sad1:

LOL. I won't be stacking my luggage in the bathroom. I'm sure I'll live.

I'm pretty sure my son put pillows on top of the bed frame at AoA. But he's 5'10" with long arms so it was easy for him. My concern at Pop is that it looks like there might be some type of lighting fixture on top of the bed frame -- I think I see some up lighting coming from there in some of the pictures.

I'm really disappointed with the closet/storage situation. I love the cubbies, but they just don't provide the same storage opportunities that the previous closet area had. We used to put several collapsible bins on that shelf above the "closet" and we'd hang one sweater holder (that my daughter used as her clothing storage) and a shoe holder (to organize toiletries) on the closet bar (along with hanging some clothing on hangers). Maybe I can figure out how to make those cubbies work for us, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope. Now, if my husband & I travel to Disney without the kids and don't stay at a Deluxe resort, I'd be at Pop in a heartbeat.

Are the dresser and nightstand tops laminate? Or are they solid surface (like Corian)? They look like solid surface.

Ha. Good idea. And she can leave the money like that for the mousekeeper every day.

Maybe a a "portable closet" with shelves. They are canvas. For about $40 you can ship it to the resort. And toss it after. Walmart and Amazon sell them. I don't know what the narrowest one they have is.

I did note that there are coat hangers on the wall so maybe something can be done with that. And also there is one that is on the wall next to the ironing board I wonder if you can do soemthing with that.

It is only illuminated when the door opens!

More new room pictures. They are stunning! The room feels so much bigger with the murphy bed.

For anyone wondering, the safe is in the dresser (picture below). No more safe keys! Yay! And the safe is big enough for a laptop!

Also, the bathrooms - WOW! what an upgrade!

More pictures in the post to follow.

What great pictures! Thank you for spending the time to post them! Going in September and can't wait to see them in person! :)

For those of,you getting the refurbishment rooms, what section were you in? I will be there first of August with a preferred room and would like to increase my chances by requesting a returned section.

Thanks!

I don't think I find a need for that, but some might be desperate. There are so many different sizes and styles of them.

I think I'll have to just see how the new room works for us. Unless I see some advice before November.

You are amazing for taking time to share and post while on your trip!

How much coffee supplies are in the room at check in? DH needs a few cups to get going every day so wondering if they supply a few each day or if I should plan to find the brand and buy - thanks!!!
