Pop Century Room Renovations

Success! I just strolled by again on my way back to my room. Curtains still partially open and lights on in the rooms. Without the bright sunshine I could see pretty much everything you can see through the window from a distance of about 10 feet back.

Rooms 8101 - 8112 are nearly complete and very true to the pictures posted earlier on this thread and elsewhere. A few highlights:
- Main room is white with some orange accents around sliding door to sink area.
- Sink area is a soft/light blue. Much lighter than the blue accent wall in unrenovated rooms and I wouldn't really call it teal.
- As mentioned before, sink is vessel style and there appear to be a lot of cubbies in the sink area in addition to the wall mounted makeup mirror. Couldn't get a good angle to see where closet would be or toilet/shower area.
- Beverage center is located where table and chairs are currently. Hutch style with some shelves above and glass door refrigerator in cubby below.
- Next to beverage center (where tv and dresser are currently) is a wall mounted tv. I could be wrong but it looked slightly larger and different than current model.
- Under tv is a low dresser. Three drawers on the right that looked similar in size or slightly smaller than current drawers. Two cabinet style doors are to the left of the three drawers.
- No mattresses yet, but there is a queen size platform. It's higher than current beds and sits on four feet rather than being a solid base, creating storage underneath.
- Murphy bed/tables have been installed and all were in table position with two chairs.
- At least one night stand between the two beds. Couldn't see clearly if there was a second one on the far side of the queen bed by wall.
- Artwork over queen bed is the Mickey heads shown in test photos.

Just realized I didn't really look at the floor so I think that's everything. As I mentioned, couldn't see the toilet/shower area, but from what was visible, it appeared these rooms only really needed mattresses to be ready to rent. I think we're getting close!

WOW!!!!! This is such an amazing report!!!!! :thanks:

You are my fav person!!! Finally info!!!! Kudos for taking time out of your trip to report back

Thanks for the update! I'll be starting my stay June 1st, and will see about requesting a renovated room if they're ready. If the rumours of coffee makers are true, I don't care where the room is!

whole bunch of other people starting their stays in early June, fingers crossed that one of us is able to get a renovated one for a full report!

Coffee maker?

The demo room photos showed coffee makers ............... you know the price is going to go way up now. :rotfl:
Ugh. I hope not too much. They can dress up rooms, but it's still a value resort. The prices for WDW resorts are getting to be ridiculous. My friend is there now and they've upgraded toilettries. Sea Salt soap, Sea Marine shampoo and seperate conditioner. Same stuff they have at GF. I'm wondering if they are now giving all resorts the same toilettries and just differ the variety according to resort level. Values only soap, shampoo & conditioner, mods get addition of lotion, and deluxe addition of lotion and shower gel?

I have seen some rumors that they are planning on getting rid of the current resort levels and switching to location designations. MK area, Epcot Area, AK Area etc.

I wonder what that will mean?

Does anyone know if the coffee maker in the reno rooms is a keurig style?
This would make rope drop mornings so much more tolerable!

Sorry not sure if this has been addressed.. is the murphy bed the same width as a queen? we stayed at AOA and to be honest, the murphy bed was not bad. much better than a Couch... I like the set-up but still one cannot ignore that two Queens and a Corner table is still much better and more convient for a Group of 4... These new rooms are awesome for two People or one as you have tons of free space then...

sorry one ore question.. poster noted that rooms 8101-8112 are almost finished.. were These the first block of room to be started? does anyone know how Long it took for them to do These? I have a trip end of Aug and am curious what percentage of rooms will be complete by then... i might want one of These rooms.

It is believed the Murphy bed will be a full/double rather than a queen.

Question, do any Disney resorts have Kuerig style coffee makers? I always guessed the new ones would be the ones with the little 4 cup pot. Justify style would be amazing but I won't hold my breath as these appear to be a much more expensive style. Time will tell.

The coffee makers at AoA are Cuisinart Pod style. Same concept as a Keurig (brew one cup at a time), but probably less expensive supplies. You can see the pictures in the blog post: AoA Room Pictures I'm not sure what the other resorts have, but I would guess they're all the same brand.

Queen and Full Murphy bed. But note they never had two Queens - they had two fulls.

New setup (table gone when bed down) will likely not work well for some but queen bed a plus. Honestly think their target market is changed with these new upgrades and expect price point to change in 2019 when rooms complete. Or even change in 2018 for all new bookings.

That's my take too. The Queen + Murphy bed probably won't work for a family of four, unless the two kids are on the younger side. What I see this configuration appealing to is adult couples looking for a cheaper option, or the solo traveler. The amount of people who come to Disney without kids has definitely increased in the last decade, and I think they're not only noticing that, but also starting to advertise/cater to that audience better.

With the murphy bed up, it's going to feel like those rooms are so much bigger than they were when it was two Full beds - I always hated that it feels like the first bed is literally right there when you come in the door.

I feel the addition of the cubbies in the bathroom area and the higher queen bed that will allow for storage of suitcases under it will also give the room a bigger feel. Excited to see one of the renovated rooms and check out all the new changes!

Thanks for the info about the coffeemaker @bluezy! I'm not familiar with the Cuisinart Pods. Will need to look into these. Am I correct to guess that pods that fit into a Keurig will not fit into the Cuisinart Style machine?

Coronado's new rooms have small Keurig.

From another perspective ... I travel with DS, who is disabled and goes to bed much earlier than I much like young children. We love POP and have close to 25 stays there. In the evenings he goes to bed, lights out ... and I sit at the table with my computer and do work. NOW with this room the only way for me to maintain a table is to give him the Queen bed and me sleep in the full murphy bed. I drive so I suppose I could bring a pop up table but ................. but I hate that I'd have to do that so I can have the Queen bed, heck that I have to do it for a real bed no matter the size.

I think it's for what you say, couples. All you have to do is look around at the parks to see the number of adults and adult only parties is on the increase, and some times of year the number of kids minimal. I think they are gearing this resort for a different client, and the price will go up, especially if they add this "gondola". Someone has to pay for it, and I believe it will be paid in the resort rates that are on it.

Agree with @dansdad that the rumor of the elimination of hotel levels will happen and it will be to Disney's benefit so they can charge based on location and amenities. We've always called AoA the deluxe of values and CSR the deluxe of moderates ... I think in a few years the Disney resorts will be nothing like they are now in terms of amenities and prices - clearly a new mission for Disney to re-structure them all.
