Pop Century Room Renovations

That's my take too. The Queen + Murphy bed probably won't work for a family of four, unless the two kids are on the younger side. What I see this configuration appealing to is adult couples looking for a cheaper option, or the solo traveler. The amount of people who come to Disney without kids has definitely increased in the last decade, and I think they're not only noticing that, but also starting to advertise/cater to that audience better.

With the murphy bed up, it's going to feel like those rooms are so much bigger than they were when it was two Full beds - I always hated that it feels like the first bed is literally right there when you come in the door.
You are correct, we are a family of 4 and losing the table is a deal breaker. I use it at night while kids are in bed and then in the mornings, I will usually get the table set up for breakfast before waking our DDs... Unfortunately we are going to have to put POP down at the bottom of our list now, DW will be sad:( Also, not a fan of them getting rid of the solid base for the bed, I remember before they started using the solid box and no we did not and would not put anything under the bed. Lets just say it was not the cleanest under there.

Coronado's new rooms have small Keurig.

I wonder if they'll change to all Keurigs resort wide. I don't drink coffee but I do cringe when I think of all the extra "waste" produced by the Keurigs at Disney World alone. I doubt most guests will take the time to tear the aluminum lid off, empty the k-cup, rinse it out, and put it in the recycling bin. I'm guessing 99% will go straight in the trash. :( At least the Cuisinart pods are biodegradable.

....Thanks for the info about the coffeemaker @bluezy! I'm not familiar with the Cuisinart Pods. Will need to look into these. Am I correct to guess that pods that fit into a Keurig will not fit into the Cuisinart Style machine?

The K-cups do fit the Cuisinart brand coffeemakers. We've had a Cuisinart for several years and use the K-cups regularly.

You probably know, but these are two different configurations.

Thank you. Yes, I know they are different. We would prefer connecting, but adjoining will work if that is what we end up with for the trip. Connecting is what we really need, but will take adjoining if there are no connecting available. Fingers crossed for connecting!

Not all Cuisinart coffee makers take the k-cups. The ones in the suites at AoA take the flat pods. No way for a K-cup to fit in the tray.

Thanks so much @CarolynFH! Like many people I have a particular brand of coffee that I enjoy so will happily bring my own. Very excited about this change at Pop!!

Well, hopefully by the time you're packing we'll all know which kind of coffeepot it is! We'd love to bring our own K-cups too when we stay at Pop - I grew up in New Orleans and I like that Community Coffee & Chicory!

Thanks for this @bluezy. We don't travel until September so by then I'm sure we'll know if the Keurig pods fit in the new coffee makers at Pop.

Just checked the Pop page on the WDW site, and it finally says the hotel is undergoing refurbishments! Still doesn't specifically mention "room" refurbishments, but previously it only indicated landscaping.

Ugh. I hope not too much. They can dress up rooms, but it's still a value resort. The prices for WDW resorts are getting to be ridiculous. My friend is there now and they've upgraded toilettries. Sea Salt soap, Sea Marine shampoo and seperate conditioner. Same stuff they have at GF. I'm wondering if they are now giving all resorts the same toilettries and just differ the variety according to resort level. Values only soap, shampoo & conditioner, mods get addition of lotion, and deluxe addition of lotion and shower gel?
So Pop now has a separate conditioner?? It is dumb how happy that makes me if that is true. I always have to pack my own toiletries because I need conditioner. I ended up buying a $16.95 H20 lotion the last time I was at Pop (forgot the lotion).

I know we won't know until they start seeing finished remodeled rooms, but the more I think about it, I'm suprised that they aren't going to have at least some rooms with doubles and a stand alone table configuration. I could easily see them having one or two of the "less desirable" buildings and have a large number of those rooms with 2 doubles. With the number of kids based groups (sports, competitions, etc.) that I have heard and read about, that would seem to be a better arrangement for them and it would allow the POP to somewhat limit where those groups would be located.

While the new rooms would work out better for our group, 2 rooms for 5 people, I understand how the table situation could be a real issue for some. That said, while not an ideal replacement, it does appear that the rooms will have more tops that could possible be used as a table. The beverage center would be one of those areas, and if the TVs will now be mounted on the walls, that should create more table top space that could be used as a table?

I booked back in February and Pop was showing refurbishments even then it didn't specify what then either.

Under tv is a low dresser. Three drawers on the right that looked similar in size or slightly smaller than current drawers. Two cabinet style doors are to the left of the three drawers.

While not as convenient as a table, there is potential that the low dresser could possibly be used as a table in a pinch if the second bed is pulled down.

Just looking for options for those who are finding the pull-down bed and loss of table to be a deal breaker.

It's hard when you enjoy a resort so much for things to be changed. The changes will work well for some and unfortunately be a deterrent for others.

In the evenings he goes to bed, lights out ... and I sit at the table with my computer and do work. NOW with this room the only way for me to maintain a table is to give him the Queen bed and me sleep in the full murphy bed.

You could buy a lap desk and use that on the bed. I have one and my laptop is 17.3 inches, yet it still has room for a mouse pad on it.

Looks like great minds think alike :thumbsup2. Was just saying the same thing a few posts ago, but you said it better.

Also, agree that change can be tough, but while it can be for the worse it can also be for the better. All I know is I really want to see what the rooms look like, because until we see them too many things are up in the air.

I spoke to one of the construction managers when I was there and specifically asked him if there would be some rooms with the traditional two bed setup it is now and some rooms with the bed/murphy set up and he said ... the plans that he has say all rooms will move to the murphy bed / queen except for the HA rooms. I hear you about the groups but I imagine that is part of the plan .. keep out groups while raising the price. Force them into AllStars or pay for moderates ... which I think we'll see more offsite. The Flamingo Crossing resorts were built to encourage sports teams to move over there. I could see an expansion in that area.

As far as "table top surfaces" I don't think that is our issue. Our issue is a place to sit and use the surface. I can't sit at a dresser or a drawer, beverage center, and not even comfortably hunkered on the bed to work on my computer. I would have rather them put in an extended desk like they are doing at Coronado so I had a space to sit at while DS was in murphy bed asleep. The setup is similar minus the "table top" connecting the dresser and beverage center. Could have been a real problem solver with just a few feet of counter. [See below]

It is what it is and some trips it may work (short and busy) and some trips it won't (long and need to do work). I do know that I'm getting way more for my money offsite these days (next trip is brand new beautiful Hyatt suite style room for less than value plus breakfast).
