Pop Century Room Renovations

I just went and looked at some pics/ video of the Cabana Bay rooms and I think you may be onto something! They are very retro-60s and I am suddenly buying the turquoise/orange idea if they do it well. It's not something I ever would have come up with, but it just might work.

I decided to also check out a video for cabana bay after reading your post and I take back my previous  if they do it like cabana bay. I actually really liked how they did the teal and orange together, only because the orange was minimal. My question is though, how will it look with hardwood floors.

Walking by the shrub side of the walkway and holes in the plastic, I could see there looks like some orange in there. Orange would work with darker wood. The art work in the leaked images is there. The lights on the wall next to it have changed. It is a globe style sconce. Again, this was a peek from some distance. I didn't want to take a chance of being caught snooping.

We were going to request Lake View for our end of September Trip, but if there is work going on maybe that isn't the best option. It's my parents first and possibly only trip (at 67 years old!). I want it to be the best trip it can be for us, so they can understand my obsession lol.

Judging by the pace of this renovation, it looks like this may be our first trip that we're not able to stay in the 50's section this September. I don't really care if it's refurbed or not, but we love the 50's, so hopefully it's either finished or hasn't started yet by the time we're there.

Assuming they are going around clockwise from the 80's/90's, I think you should be fine. I figure they might be somewhere in the 60's by September.

Hi all,
New to this thread and was hoping for some advice.
I'm helping a friend plan her 1st trip with her husband and twin 6 year old girls. She booked Pop on my recommendation (definitely want to stay value). They are going the 3rd week in Sept.
I'm concerned about the construction. Do you think it will be bad then and should I suggest they consider switching? If so which value would you recommend?
If they stay with Pop sounds like 50s section lake view is the way to go?
Thank you!

that would fit with the fact that no preferred pool rooms were available from sometime in November thru December when I was booking

We have a preferred pool room booked for mid-August.

I'm no longer concerned about the room renovations. The gondola project sounds far more disruptive. If they are beginning to install the foundation for the pillars, that's a huge undertaking by the lake. Also, conjestion and traffic on the roadways around the resort, if that's where they are also constructing these pillars.

As much as we love Pop, I wish we could change resorts, but we booked a bounce back FD offer last year and there's nothing available. I'm just hoping they don't begin this gondola project until Sept!

Funny you mention traffic, we were stuck in it coming back from AK after park close. At least I wasn't driving. Those darn orange barrels.

I haven't read this whole thread so I apologize if this has already been answered. We are booked in October for a preferred room- are the preferred rooms being renovated first? I am hopeful to get one!

They started in Building 8 and will work their way across the resort over the next year. All the rooms in a building are being completed at the same time and will most likely go into inventory together (or at least by "wing"). So, no, they are not doing the preferred rooms first. They're being done the same time the rest of the building is.

My last report. Some of the rooms in the wing of building eight have plastic over the windows. Those rooms have been stripped and only have the toilet fixture sitting in the bed area. The only additional piece of information I have on the new rooms it's some sort of wall mounted light fixture. Maybe I can look for a picture and post it later. I think this fixture is near the wall unit.

How do we know that there isn't? Actually I'm sure there are some finished rooms. If they are going to start renting them out in June, there should be some done.

It's always possible that some piece of décor or furniture was ordered, but the delivery delayed. So the first batch of rooms may take longer because of delivery delays, and since the items would now be coming in, the later buildings could be processed faster. I remember when we were having our house built, things would move like gangbusters and then screech to a halt to wait for something that was delayed, and then take off again, then stop again. It was annoying, but it happens - especially in Florida. I have already requested a renovated room for my September trip, so I hope they have some ready by then.

Completely understand and agree with what you said. However, my only point was to respond to a poster that couldn't believe they haven't completed a single room. We have no idea that they haven't. They could have 10 rooms completed, but if they haven't completed the whole floor/wing, they aren't going to assign those completed rooms.

Agree with your point as well. They wouldn't want guests and construction workers mingling in the same building. That could present huge liability issues for Disney.

The comment that got my attention in one of the posts was that the lighting fixture seen in the actual room was different than the one in the sample room. A little change like that can wreak havoc on a construction schedule.

I took that original post to be referring to a "picture" of a completed room. I didn't think @FinnsMom7 was talking about rooms being finished and put in to inventory -- just that no photos of a finished room had been leaked. I could be wrong (and my kids can probably provide you with a long list of other times I've been wrong over the last 30 years :D) but that's how I read it.
