When is Phase II of Pop Century (the Golden Years I think) projected to open?

When I was at WDW in July, I asked that question while on one of the buses. The bus driver said that after 9-11, all construction was stopped on Pop's Golden Years and that he didn't know when it would begin again because park attendance had been down. There was no projected date to begin construction again in July.

:earsgirl:

While bus drivers are not the most knowledgable sources in this case he was correct, as of now there is no set time for construction to start again. Construction on both sides of Pop was stoped after 9-11. The entire resort was to be finshed at the end of '02, The Classic years section was finaly finished and opened at the end of '03, The "Legendary Years" will most likely now not open untill at least 2006.

He said the construction stopped? That's odd. When my sister and I were there in January of this year they were working on it.

It could have just been grounds crews with BushHogs/landscaping equipment to keep the weeds to a manageable level. They have to do some maintenance in the area or else they will have to start from scratch and knock down everything they have done so far when/if they do rebuild. It also could have been pest control type folks. Empty buildings without climate control tend to collect pests.

I stayed at Pop Century the last week of January 2004 and there was no work going on at all in the Legendary Years section.

I spoke to a really nice CM in CRO today (Feline) and she didn't have any info as to when construction would begin again.

If they have to tear it down to start building again.. and I don't understand why they would.... then it doesn't really matter... because if they cease building it.. they will have to tear it down anyways because it's an eye soar to look at. I do not wish to look out of my room and see half built concrete buildings across the way.

To be honest, you don't see anything from the already built side of Pop Century. The only things you can see is the built Main Building and one of the wings on the far right. But otherwise it's just bushes and trees across the lake with low grass where the buildings layouts have been marked off.

That's what I'm saying. Disney does not want to start over. I'm sure folks see what they think are work crews, but are really maintenance crews to keep the landscape, water, and pests from totally ruining the partial buildings and concrete pads that are already there.

So that if they do decide to finish the resort, they can just continue from where they are at.

The partially built main building is a grey and doesn't really stick out while hte partially built buidling with rooms is a brown. While most would find this not so good, unless you are REALLY REALLY picky it shouldn't be a problem. Other then their color and lack of themeing, they are completed on the outside for the most part. Don't let this deter you in any way from staying at the resort or trying to get a view of Hourglass Lake! I loved having a "water view" at Pop , LOL.
