We are from the west coast of Florida we are going to Orlando, to just get away before school starts back up at the end of July. We (me,DS12,DS11,DS10) went in May to Nick hotel for a get out of school trip, I want to hang out and go to Disney Quest where do you guys think we should stay at. Disney would be $20. less, but I think Tropical will give us more room. Thanks in advance for any advice you guys have. :)

you would get more room at Tropical palms.

but WDW transportation is pretty nice - especially if you decide you want to go to the parks.

i would be looking at the DTD or even SSR - they are close enough to DD that you won't need to drive.

I assume you will have a car and that being the case I would go with Tropical Palms. Of course this is a matter of personal preferences, but the cabins at Tropical Palms would easily accomadate your clan and allow you to spread out and relax without getting in each others way. (Do go for the 2 bedroom models though).

The drive is quite quick from Tropical Palms and you can probably get to any of the parks just as fast as it would take to take a Disney Bus from most of the Disney hotels. I also think Old Town (which is next door) is a pretty good place to hang out in the evening with a group of boys the ages of your sons.

We stayed at Pop for a week while at WDW and then at Tropical Palms for 2 nights. We all loved Tropical Palms. Next time we go that's where we'll be staying. We had a cottage close to the pool and it was great.

Well, we ended up at Tropical Palms, and I wish I had stayed at Pop, I have never stayed at Pop, but I did not care for Tropical palms. bummer

I'm very sorry to hear that ca859093.

Since Tropical Palms normally gets pretty good reviews, would you mind elaborating on what you found wrong with the place. I think that might help others who end up with a choice similar to the one you had.

All the blinds were broke, so you could see in. The drawers in the kitchen and in the room closets were broken so you couldn't use them. The carpet was soaking wet and they had fans in there to dry it. (they said they had just shampooed the carpet)
I really don't like the location, all though it is close to the parks, I didn't feel safe way back in there. If I think of anything else I will post

More Tropical Palms fans, although it's been a few years for us, since we do prefer to stay on site, if the price is right. We're staying off site at Safari in Oct, but that's because there are just two of us.
We had some issues at our last stay at TP, and by the time we got back from the parks, they were addressed. We were there at a busy time, and apparently, the people before us were rough, and there was no other cabin to move us to. They thought they had fixed everything, but missed some (cable was gone from TV, so of course it didn't work, Kitchen floor was soaked, because the Fridge got turned off, and the ice cubes were loose in the little freezer and melted. We needed one of the blinds to be replaced). I've had issues at Disney too, and they usually got addressed, so I guess it happens everywhere. Hope you complained and got them fixed.

From our perspective, this feeling of seclusion and isolation is one of the reasons we like Tropical Palms so much. But I can definitely see your point ca859093. For those that don't know, Tropical Palms is primarily a RV park. As such it is set back in a kind of forested setting. The cabins themselves are isolated from one another. If the sound of this makes you even a little uncomfortable it would probably be better if you stayed in a more traditional resort.

I also agree DMRick. You can run into room problems at even the most exclusive of hotels. (And Tropical Palms is definitely not exclusive.) The real measure is how they react to the problems once reported.
