what are your thoughts on the above "basic" hotels.

Any better than the other?

Also do you get a fridge, or kettle or anything in these rooms? :goodvibes

The main difference between the 4 is themeing and buses. The 3 all stars share buses at times but it more like the multiple stops at a mod or SSR/OKW rather than separate hotels like the deluxe shares.

The rooms are the same size at all and there are no fridges in the rooms - you can rent one or look for a fridge swap.

POP has had a refurb so it is a bit more popular. It is also not so far out on a limb like the All Stars. I have never stayed at POP although it was on the cards for a split stay next year.

We stayed at AS Music last year and really enjoyed it. For 2 of us the rooms were adequately sized and we are never really in the room. No waterslides, but 2 good pools and we had a great time. Never had a single problem with buses and the only time we shared buses was at quieter times of the day, but ASMu is the second stop anyway and they are all right next to each other. THey are spread out so if you don't fancy a long walk to the main building, pay for a preferred room. That is true for all of the resorts.

I had no issues with a value. I had reservations before we arrived but all in vain. We really had a good stay there.

Have stayed at AS Movies 4 times and AS Sports once. Never stayed at POP although I think the food court there is better that all of the All Stars
Out of All Stars, we prefer Movies as it seems a little quieter. Movies is the farthest one in the chain of the 3 AS resorts, and I know that Virgin charge a higher price to stay here than the other two resorts although they all look to have the same layout as each other.

I know that Thomas Cook and Disney charge nominally more for Movies too. I can only think that part of the reason may have to do with block bookings at Sports and Music for the sport teams and bands that go to WDW which would possibly explain why Movies is a little quieter.

We've stayed twice at the Pop and couldn't fault it :) Great bus service to the parks, nice food court and a few different pools to use, plus our DD loved playing in the Goofy jets :goodvibes

We're hoping to go back in 2012 and will definitely spend some of our trip at the Pop :)

I've not stayed at Pop but have stayed at ASSp and ASMu. I liked the way the All Star Resorts are close to each other - we'd often walk from one to another just to have a change of scene when using the gift shop or food court (some minor differences in the menus).

I much preferred ASSp to ASMu as it is not as spread out - at most 2 room blocks to food court whereas at ASMU we had a 3 block walk (not a lot of difference but in the August heat it feels a lot.)

We only used the buses to go to MK because of the drive, park, tram, monorail journey otherwise we drove everywhere.

Have stayed at ASMo, ASMu and POP and have liked all of them. I would say that my personal preference would be ASMo or POP, just because of the theming.

I think the buses were a little better at POP, but not much in it really.

Food courts are all much the same, POP seemed busier, but that was probably due to the time of year rather than it being a different resort.

We were a family of 4 this year (me, DF, his DS12 and his DS8) and we coped fine in one room at POP. I was worried before I went, but needn't have been, it was perfectly adequate. Not the biggest room, but then you don't go there to spend time in your room! ;)

We stayed at all star music resort in september and loved it!:thumbsup2 you get an ironing board and iron in your room and a powerfull hair dryer. :goodvibes

Correct. Amenities at the values are all the same. You can rent a fridge for $10 per day, although if you are only doing one night the first night, wait til the full stay before doing this.

I did miss the fridge in the room at All Stars last year, but never bothered to rent one and we got by just fine. Not a big difference between values and mods other than that and the pools. Rooms are marginally bigger at the mods, bathrooms the same and you have a luggage seat at the mods too, but otherwise the differences are more in the theming and the actual grounds. The values do tend to have better food courts, possibly due to their size.

we've booked with pop for next year, i look at it as ..only a room to sleep in! and i like the theme of pop
we have stayed at movies and that was really good

We have stayed at All Star Movies once and All Star Music twice. I definately prefer All Star Music, there was so much more going on. The activities at the pool were great, the buses were never a problem, the themings lovely and it's not a very long walk from the front to the back of the resort. Ive noticed that Disney are charging more for All star Movies and Pop Century this year than they are for All star Music and Sports. In the past it's just been for Movies, so not sure why that is. I dont think you can go wrong with any of the Values :thumbsup2

ASMo has always been slightly more. I think POP has become increasingly popular, especially since they refurbished the rooms. If people will pay more, they can get away with charging more.

We stayed at all star movies for 14 nights Dec 09. Booked with US disney and got free QSDP which we upgraded to DDP.

Paid a bit more for a preferred room - wanted the toy story section. Think all except herbie and mighty ducks are preferred rooms.

Just like any basic US motel chain room - 2 double beds, table and chair, tv, sink in back and small bathroom with toilet and bath with overhead shower - no fridge/coffee pot.

Large pool, laundrette (pay), bar nr pool, shop, kids playground.

We liked and would stay there again.

Did eat a few times at foodcourt but not really our thing - like a mall foodcourt.

Buses were fine - only time all 3 all stars shared was during the day at peak each hotel got its own bus.

When we looked at Movies in 2007 and stayed there in 2008 all the values were the same price. The only reson we could see for the increase is alot of people perhaps prefer the movie theming so would be likely to pay slightly more. This put us off so we moved to Music which we now prefer so much more and it's cheaper :cool1:

Movies and Sports host a lot of block bookings for bands and sports teams. Movies tends not to attract them to the same extent and I think people wanting an All Stars hotel who have concerns about noise etc are willing to pay a bit more.

My daughter loved the activities at ASMU that are constant from morning to night and the theming was cute, buses excellent, food court was fine, although we didn't actually eat a meal there - we were out so much last year and ate in the parks and quite a lot at DTD.

I would happily recommend Music to anyone looking for a value. I am glad I did it last year - DD thoroughly enjoyed it. She would have liked it this year too, but I think she got more out of it at her age and stage last year and enjoyed POFQ more this year. Your needs and wants can change too and are no reflection on the resort if they do.

I don't think there is a bad resort at Disney - you just need to find what suits your taste and needs - which can change from one trip to the next. :thumbsup2

Nothing between them really imo we have stopped at POP before and had a great time and the room was fine... We are staying at AS Music next year quite simply it was cheaper than POP and DD loves Music......
