Pop Century is Far Out!

Tyler - this is a boring question after your revelations about the Hustle and the Twist :cool1:, but, is this the policy or is this only for the cheerleaders? It would speak to the fact that Disney is trying to make this resort a step above the All-Stars if this was policy. There are plenty of other groups, such as the football groups, that would benefit by the location of PC for staying while competing.

Wow! I just know that I cannot wait until our trip. Tyler, you have really added to the Magic of planning this trip for my DD. WDW really has one great CM on their hands! I love the updates and look forward to more.

Thanks again for everything, can't wait to meet you in Feb!

We will be at PC on Dec. 21 & 22 and I hope we get to see you! Thanks for all of the information! We are excited!

I'm not sure it's an official "Policy" however, the impression that I got from my managers was that all large groups would be placed at the All-Stars, and any overflow that would normally go to a Moderate would go to Pop.

As for convenience of location... The difference in distance is very minimal. 1, maybe 2 minutes TOPS. There really would be no benefit. Actually, All-Stars would really be the better place for them anyways. Pop Century has less wide open space for practices and such.

Does anyone know if there will be any groups at any of the Values especially Pop Century from Feb 1-6? I have reservations for then, but if there will be a big group, I may change it.

Thanks
Kim

Tyler,

I had been reading daily updates on this thread and I was wondering why the updates have stopped. I will be staying at PC starting on Dec. 14th and I am looking forward to it. I was wondering if you could give us some information about which buildings will be open and also if only the first floors of each will be open on the first day. Also I sure wish we could see an actual map of the Resort online. Please keep the Information coming.

Thanks and see ya soon!

Here is a webpage that shows some more of the Pop Century meals: click here to view webpage. The food shown is as follows: tie-dyed cheesecake, Fluffernutter sandwich on tie-dyed bread, hearty noodle bowl, and fried chicken and whipped potatoes in a retro TV-tray. Yum!

I'm sorry... I've just been so busy. That, and I've also been in classes at Disney University, so nothing new to report there. The things that I have been finding out are CM only info right now. As I get new stuff, of course I'll be sharing it! :)

As for the First Floor... I know opening day we're only having 400-700 check in. I can't remember the exact count. Not quite sure how they will be placed. I don't know if we've exactly decided that at this point.

And as for a Map... I do have a map!!! However, I don't have a scanner. I will see what I can do to take a photo, and see if that comes out. *shrug*

Woohoo! Woohoo! Woohoo! (Get the idea...:teeth: )

Thanks Tyler for all the great PC news! This resort sounds like a blast. I made reservations for my family and my parents for Jan/Feb (Thank you DU!), pretty much based on the info you gave on this thread. I absolutely cannot wait to see this resort. Thanks for all the details! :D

This isn't really much of an update... but today's Pop Info for the Day...

Upon arrival, Pop Century will offer Luggage Assistance for our guests. Not to be confused with "Bell Services" found at Deluxe resorts, Luggage Assistance will take your luggage, and store it while you enter the lobby and check in. After you check in, we can deliver your luggage to your room once it is ready. (Luggage will typically arrive less than one hour after your room is ready.) We will have refridgerators for food and medical usage. (All food *MUST* be factory sealed) We will also have a locked area for valuables such as laptops, cameras, and other electronics.

When checking out, we can come and pick up your luggage, and store it until you are ready to depart. We do ask that you give us a call the night before, to arrange a pick up time. Those of you who opt for Express Checkout will recieve a voice mail reminding you of this option, as well as other Express Checkout info. By the way, the voice of Express Checkout is the same voice that does the Monorail Spiel :)

You do not need to be in your room for drop off or pick up.

Should you wish to handle your own luggage, we offer the use of our hand carts. (Not the "bird cages," but push carts) Usage of the carts is free, however, we will require a credit card on file, should you decide to take one home as a souvenir. We also do ask that guests limit cart usage to 30 minutes, so that other guests may use them as well.

By the way... second useless trivia fact -- Pop Century is the only Disney Resort to have it's own theme song. I wish I could get a copy of it, because it's SO cool. Speaking of music, Classic Hall will have over 30 hours of music from the different decades (6 hours per decade) playing. Each section will have a 75%/25% mix of music from its own decade, and music from other decades. We do also have Holiday Music... we're hoping to have it installed in time for opening.

Thanks for the update Tyler! I am so glad we decided to give it a try for our rapidly approaching trip! PC is sounding "cooler" with each update. See you in 24 days.

You're going to have to do better than that; you're going to have to let us know the following information regarding the Pop Century “theme” song:

(1) the name of the song (it better not be "Dirty Pop" by *NSYNC)
(2) the musical genre of the song (my guess is "pop")
(3) who composed the song (possibly Iggy Pop)
(4) who recorded the song (I bet the Boston Pops)
and
(5) if the song can be purchased in the gift shop (maybe it comes free with the purchase of a six-pack of soda pop)

Come on, Tyler, spill the beans. ;)

I believe the name of the song is "Pop Culture" although I could be mistaken. I'd have to say the genre is show tunes. As for any other information, I don't have it just yet. The song was originally written for Pop Century, specifically for our Press Event. It featured choreographed dancers, and stunt cars. It was pretty cool.

I *HOPE* it's available on CD somehow... it's a GREAT song, and I'd hate for it to dissapear.

We will visit when we go on our unexpected Christmas trip. My kids have seen pictures, and they are excited. My son saw the big wheel and asked me what was that? I felt old and I'm only 29!

Okay folks... it's not the greatest copy. But here's a MAP of Pop Century. It's a digital camera shot of a photo copy.

I want to stress this... the 90's look far from the main building. THEY ARE NOT. It's just an illusion. When you actually set foot on property, you'll see that everything is VERY close to the main building.

Thanks Tyler! I can't wait to see it for myself! You have really helped raise the excitement about this trip!

Chip 'n Dale Express, thanks for the info regarding the new theme song. I think it's great that there is a specific song just for the Pop Century resort (I bet the other resorts are jealous ;)). And thanks for the resort map. It looks like a great campus. I can't wait to see it in person.
