Pop and AOA pools

I know it is not right to use pools at other resorts and I think it is a good rule and one that I never broke. I do love going to the other resorts for dinner and having a cocktail in the lobby, but like I said I would never pool hop.

Having said that, I think Disney should make an exception for Pop and AOA now that the old Generation Gap Bridge is open and it allows easy access to both resorts, I think that would be a good thing. The pools in both resorts are so big and multiple I don't think overcrowding will ever become an issue.

Do you think Disney should make these resorts an exception?

No. In order for a safe pool, you need to keep occupancy at a a level where the lifeguards can adequately supervise all swimmers. The resorts are designed for a particular number of guests. I think the big blue and Cars cabanas would cause too many guests wanting to use those facilities over the pools at Pop.

(Rule #1)

Nope. If you were staying at AoA and there were people in a cabana that were not even staying at that resort, would you be happy about it? I wouldn't. If a particular pool is important to you (generally speaking), then you pay to stay at that pool's resort. Plain and simple.

AOA has cabanas? I didn't know that, in that case, I can see how I wouldn't like that either.

That's a pretty cool feature.

I definitely would never stay in a cabana if I wasn't staying at that resort, but I know pleanty of people that would. I would also never bring a mug from Pop and expect to use it there, but from my many stays at Pop I saw a ton of people filling up their drinks with All Star Mugs and other resorts. I would never do that becasue I don't think it's right and I would be too embarrassed if I was stopped.

Having said that, how do you think AOA is going to be able to tell if someone from Pop walks through the bridge and just acts like a guest and starts using their pools. Again, I'm not advocating this, I'm just curious if anyone knows the answer.

My answer to the cabana issue is to have people reserve them and wear some sort of Tag that says they are the reserved guests from such and such a time.

It's my understanding that AOA has a gate around the Big Blue and that you need your room key to gain access to the pool.

Oh that's pretty cool. That must me some huge gate. I think I read the Big Blue Pool is the biggest pool in Disney. I didn't think I would ever see a pool bigger than the Hippie Dippie Pool. I don't think I would like to see a gate around it, it would ruin the look of the area.

After checking out this link, I don't see any gate and don't even see how that would be possible without making things difficult for the resort guests.

There's a reason why they fenced the Big Blue pool and require room key access.

I have not located any photos where the fence is visible. A number of written reviews have referred to it.

There is a light bluefence encompassing all of the Big Blue, including the pool bar. It is very carefully placed to be virtually unseen, but it IS there. It is room key activated. There is also a fence around the Cars pool (which is where the cabanas can be found). Bottom line is that only guests of AoA will be permitted to swim at AoA, which is how it should be.

ETA: You can see the fence in the video directly under the giant Bruce on the building.

There are several photos of the fence and gate in the AoA thread here on the Dis, but I don't know what page they are on. Too long of a thread to dig them up.

Thanks for the photo. That is amazing. Leave it to Disney to be able to make a fence invisible. I’m glad they did this instead of not allowing guests to not have access to walk the grounds across the old Generation Gap Bridge, because although I will still like to say at Pop, I could picture myself taking a nice nighttime stroll to both resorts.

I see they even fenced in the pool bar, so no chance of Pop guests buying a drink from them either.

The pool at the Yacht/Beach Club is set up almost the same way. There are entrances to get in the pool area and the rest is closed in but it is difficult to see. Pretty Neat if you think about it!!!!

Disney thinks of everything. It truly is amazing how no detail is overlooked. I think that is why so many (myself included) can tend to be so critical when something dosen't seem right, because when it comes to magical vacations and creating memories, they are the masters. Disney has set the bar so high that many people's expectations have become extremely high also.

And I'm thinking if there is a fence around the Nemo pool and Cars pool, there might be one around the little mermaid pool too. But no pictures yet.

It looks as if you are not staying at AOA and you want to purchase an adult beverage there, you will be buying some beer or wine at the food court. It doesn't sound like the place has a bar other than the pool bar.

That's not a big deal, as long as I can take a walk and look at the resort is cool with me. I would like to check out the lobby and food court, but I really do like the amenities and Pop.

What is going to keep someone who is not staying there going in behind someone that has opened the gate with their card and just diving on in? I mean, it could happen.

I was in the "camp" of folks who thought the AoA and POP pools should be "shared" UNTIL I went to opening day last Thursday and SAW AoA!:)

The Pools are unlike anything I have seen at any WDW resort and I now completely understand why they need to only be available to AoA Guests(and this is coming from a "POP person").:)

The Cozy Cone Pool is going to be just as amazing as The Big Blue with the Cozy Cone Pool Cabanas, etc.:)

I got as close as I could to the Cozy Cone Pool Saturday and you can see a little of the Cabanas and if you look closely, you can see the black fence around it.:)

I am telling everyone-I have never seen anything like Cars Courtyard at any WDW resort.:)

It can and most likely will happen,BUT,if it becomes a problem, they could go to a wristband system and there is always the chance of being embarrassingly "caught".:)

Without the fence, there would be no deterrent.:)

Wonder if you will be having to have a reservation in the cars area just to be able to rent one of the cabanas? And I wonder how much they will be? What about the lion king and little mermaid areas? Will the pools and such be just as amazing?
