Poor service in restaurants.

It probably wouldn't have been long before someone mentions this so I may as well go ahead...:)

Some European students who take jobs as waitstaff are always surprised when Americans are so anxious for their checks-they don't want to appear as if they're pushing anyone out the door by doing so...

I realize however, the chances that JerseyJanice's waitress was just some poor, uninformed foreigner are probably slim-I'm curious as to exactly what kind of attitude she dare approach you with after keeping you waiting for so long!

surprisingly, she was an older woman, clearly an American.

Her attitude was horrible; I guess she had a bad day. She must have known we were angry after we sent the hostess to find her. All I can figure is that she thought she blew her tip after that anyway, so she just did whatever she wanted (i.e., smoke in the bar).

You know, we really like the food at this chain, but this location seems to have a high turnover in staff. I think that's the crux of the problem.

I just wanted to add my 2 cents - we have experienced poor service much more frequently lately as well. My husband & I are younger & I used to think that was the problem, but I'm not so sure anymore.

I waited tables for 2 years while in college & I think now I get even more aggravated with horrible service. We frequently are done eating for lengthy amounts of time before anyone will bring us our check. Last week my hubby met me for lunch & a runner brought out our food - I didn't notice until she was gone that my salad didn't have any dressing. By the time our waitress came to check on us - hubby was done & I hadn't started yet!

The week before that we ate out on Friday night & our waitress came over & started boxing up hubby's food while I was still eating & threw the check down. I was not very happy with this service either!

I am also guilty of still leaving a tip for poor service - although I don't know that I will be for much longer.:(
