Poor, lonely, forlorn Carousel of Progress

Oh, I hope it is open when I am there in just 2 weeks!! I really missed not seeing it on my last two trips. My DH and children have never seen it. I know it may not be a thrill ride but for those of us who have been going to WDW all of our lives it is a classic that is sorely missed.

PLEASE let it be open when I am there!

NMamy,

My DD(5) loves TTA and CoP also! She asks to ride TTA at least 3-4 times per trip, and she always asks to see "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow!" I know it's not as thrilling and high-tech as all the newer rides, but it's a classic and we hope it never closes permanently - that would be so sad.

Phyllis--I hope your dd enjoys it for as many years as mine has! She's loved them both since she was about 5 and I'm so glad that at 13 she still asks to ride them!

We must've done the TTA 20 times on our last trip!

You know that if they rehabed the attraction to pull a couple of G's and throw in a loop or two it would pull the crowds...

But seriously, I think it is truly a shame that more people don't take a spin in this attraction. It is a direct connection to Walt and is not to be missed (when open). I think that part of the problem is that it is sort of off on it's own without too much around it so people don't just walk by and wander in. I can't tell you the last time that I wasn't able to just walk up and take a seat in the theater. Yep, it is a shame....

This ride is always so dark and cool when it's warm out. I ride it every time we visit, sometimes by myself when DH or my friends are riding SPACE MOUNTAIN. I don't do roller coasters, so this is a perfect time killer, and it's a fun, non-offensive ride!

Call me strange but that is my ultimate favorite ride. I am not a thrill seeker, but I do love Splash and will do BTM a hundred times with DD, 7! I love COP and will see it a bunch of times next week. They love SM and I hate it, so I can go on COP to my hearts content! DH calls me every day at work and leaves a VM singing either It's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow, When You Wish Upon a Star, or A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes! :D

I wonder if they just update the signage by the entrance if it will attract more people. Maybe add a sign that says "a Walt Disney Classic". Just something that makes it really obvious to passersby that this is a wonderful Walt Classic and shouldn't be missed.

I guess we have been lucky----COP has always been open when we've been to WDW.

Of course, we have never gone during "off" season.

Anyway, I think the main problem is that people just don't even realize it's there or what it is. Most of the "new" people to WDW walk right by and never even notice it. What COP really needs is a little PR advertising. Granted it could use a little refurb but I think all the scenes are still great.

I can't recall having seen COP, but I may have seen it when we went 3x when I was a kid. It was on my list of things to do last month, but I simply never saw the entrance or a sign or anything and forgot all about it when we were in Tomorrowland. Is the entrance really off the beaten track or something? I just don't remember seeing a sign or anything to remind me that it existed. I'm just kicking myself now because I did want to see it and who knows if it will be open in December when we go back. Heck, I don't even know if it was open when we were there last month.

I love CoP

On my last trip to WDW, it was the first ride we went on and it was then that I truly felt like I was at WDW. I'll probably not get to see it anymore. :sad1:

Also one of my favorites. I grew up with it out in Southern California. I was always so bummed out that they replaced it with "America Sings" out there.

I haven't been back to Disneyland in ages, so I don't know what happened to "America Sings", but I belive that you can see alot of the animitronics from it on Splash Mountain. I'm glad. It's like a link to my childhood.

COP is one of my families favoriets. And we too, haven't seen it in a couple of years. I ask when Stitch is going to open only because I want to know when COP will be slipping into "seasonally" status. Will be there in 18 days and there are 40 fingers and toes crossed that we will at least once again be able to sing along with "There's a great, big.....you know the rest!

I can see them wanting to close it in the worst way--perhaps the "direct" connection to Walt prevents them from doing so. But they got rid of the Empress Lilly, and that was named for Walt's wife. So anything is possible---.

Thats sad too huh?

Was the River Boat at the Disney MarketPlace. Looked like an old Mississippi River steamboat, was named for Walt's wife, and had 3 nice restaurants on board. A # of years back, they (for reasons still not clear) decided to "sell out"-- closed it down and made it into Fultons Crab House, a part of the Levy chain.

CoP is a favorite of my husband and mine. We first saw it at the World's Fair in New York in 1964, right after we were married. As a result of the memories of that time, it's remained dear to us both and whenever we're in WDW, several times per year, we always check to see if it's open. We've yet to miss it, if it is, indeed, open. It's a lark to see how far we've come in 40 years!!

According to Jimhillmedia.com

COP will be used at WDW as a tie in to the 50th Aniv. of Disneyland. After 2006 it will be on the block......So if your going in the next year it may very well be now or never....

I miss the Empress Lilly terribly, especially given what is there now. Enough said.
As for COP, I liked the "now is the time" song so much better than great big beautiful tomorrow.
Guess that's because now is the time was what I saw my very first time and loved it.

I love CoP! After reading this thread, it seems there are a LOT of us who do.

Is there a way we can contact the 'powers that be' at Disney to tell them how many of us really want this attraction to remain? If anyone knows who to contact & can post an e-mail address, maybe we can make our plea heard. It may not do any good but you never know...miracles do happen. :wizard:
