Poor DD, ideas to cheer her up?

Hi all! I'm sitting here watching my poor 7 yr old DD sleep off her 104 degree fever  , while her Dad, brother (4), sister (2), Grandma, and Grandpa just left for the Disney on Ice Show which she was dying to see. :( I'm so sad for her I could just cry. :sad1:

I realize that these things happen and she'll get over it, but she wanted to go soooo bad. Her brother was sick since Wednesday, but recovered enough to go. Unfortunately, he passed along his germs to her too late for her to recover in time for the show.

Any ideas of anything special I can do for her when she's feeling better? Tomorrow is the last day of the show around here so getting tickets for a later show is out. She's such a trooper and never complains about anything but I know her heart is just breaking that she missed it.

Suggestions?:confused3

Sorry your DD is sick. Maybe you can go rent her favorite movie and watch it with her? :confused3

I see you are from Jersey.... not that far from NYC.

If cost is not an option, how about tickets to one of the Disney shows on broadway. Beauty and the Beast? If that is not possible due to cost, what about going into the city to the World of Disney Store on 5th Avenue and let her pick out a small item. Have lunch in the city.... it's reasonalble (on reasonable is a word not associated with NYC) near Rockefeller Center by the American Girl Store. (If she's into that)

Could they pick her up something special at Disney on Ice?

Maybe if she's feeling better tomorrow she can go to Build-A-Bear?

Or she can build one on the computer - no chance of infecting anyone then! ;) - but you don't get the instant gratification. (You can even record a sooud - they give you a number to call to record it).

Hope she's feeling better soon!!

:)

Thanks for the suggestions. I feel like such a whacko that I'm literally watching my DD sleep with tears running down my face because I feel so bad for her. I'm sure I'm taking it harder than she is!

Hedy - I'm sure that they will bring her something back from Disney on ice. If DH doesn't think of it, I'm sure Grandpa will! Although, maybe a gentle cell phone reminder wouldn't hurt just in case. :rolleyes1

Mary Anne - I'd LOVE to do the Beauty in the Beast show, although I'm afraid it is out of our price range right now. We don't go into the city often (actually, haven't been in probably 10 yrs) but maybe a trip to our local disney store might cheer her up.

Disneyland1084 - thanks for the sympathy/hugs. I have a feeling that she will not even be up for a movie for a few more days, but maybe when she is feeling a little better. Unfortunately, this is one nasty bug my DS brought home to us.

Thanks guys for the ideas!

HSMndLKfan92 and diznygirl - I wasn't ignoring you, we were just posting at the same time! Build a bear is good idea too. Maybe I can make a list of idea and let her pick. Maybe by Monday she will be awake enough to watch her favorite movie with me while DS is in preschool.

I say a day trip to Baltimore. 2-7 /2-19

You could do DoI and the rest of the family could hang out at the InnerHarbor it's all with in about a 6 block walk. Right off 95. We have done many trips to Northern Jersey for Paintball it's not tha bad of a SAT drive.

But I do feel your pain DD got a bit sick on our DEC trip and I ended up doing the parks early one day without her as she was up all night coughing . So I just let her and DW sleep. I ended up at the Nemo show and we never made it back for them to see.

A trip to the local DS sounds like a great idea.

When she's feeling better offer up the idea of the 2 of you going and doing something special together. Maybe Build A Bear, a manicure, buying a movie she's been wanting and watching it or something like that. Let her pick and make it special.

I hope your DD is better soon. My DD gets very emotional when she's sick and it's hard on all of us.

How about a special day of lunch out just You and DD. Does any of the resaurants or hotels by you do Tea. We have some stores around here that do nothing but tea parties.

I think you should buy her a pony.:)

Seriously, I know you must feel awful for her.:sad1: I absolutely hate it when my daughter is sick or recovering from something. I just want to do whatever possible to make her feel better.

Maybe they can buy her a cuddly stuffed Disney character/animal at the show, and you can tuck it under her arm while she's sleeping. It would be a nice surprise to wake up to. Unless of course, it reminds her that she didn't get to go to the show.

When she is feeling better, I think the two of you should do something special together.

:grouphug: to both of you!

My DD and I do Mother/Daughter days. She invented it when she was 9! She kept them going every year too, knows the date and gets us going. We went from spending the day shopping and such and when she was 11 we started to going to WDW together every year!!

Maybe you can start with the day thing and do what she wants all day, shop go out to eat... just make it special for you two.

You are not a whacko! You are just heartbroken for your sweet daughter. I would be, too. Poor baby. You'll just have to make the best of today, and then make plans for a special mother/daughter outing when she feels better. Maybe a special souvenir from Disney on Ice will help a little, and you can look forward to the next time it comes anywhere near your town. I'm upset for both of you, because I know how much it is hurting you all not to be doing this special thing together.

Awww.... poor thing. Getting sick can ruin alot of good things, can't it?:sad2:

How about a Disney movie "festival" - just the two of you?

Rent 3 of her favorite Disney movies, or maybe some she hasn't seen yet. Pop some popcorn, get some nice cold soda for that sore throat, maybe ice cream too.

Sit on the couch all wrapped in blankets together and try to have as much fun as you can.

I'm sorry your DD is sick, that is never fun. How old is she? Many years ago we had tickets to Disney on Ice and I was the one who got sick and couldn't go, I was so bummed out. It took 8 years, but they finally came back to town and I got to go in December :goodvibes

I second (or third) the idea of a Disney movie festival. Last summer DD13 and I decided to rent and watch as many old movies as we could find. I think at first she was wondering about them, but after watching a couple she was hooked and loved them. We were lucky and found a lot of them at the library and just had to check them out (rather than rent them at a store).

The Computer wore Tennis Shoes
The Horse in the Gray Flannel Shirt
Escape to Witch Mountain
Return to Witch Mountain
PollyAnna
Apple Dumpling Gang
Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again
Original Parent Trap

The list could go on and on...

Here's my idea. I'm going to WDW for Spring break in March so this is not a "quick fix" for her heartache today but still, I think she'd be excited in March anyway. :) I'd like to pick something up at Disney and sent it to her from there and enclose a note from someone special at WDW (fav character or someone she would have seen at the ice show but didn't get to see) saying they were sorry they missed her at the ice show in her town in January. Wouldn't that be fun?! Let me know if you think that would make her feel special one day in the near future.

1/2 a shot of apple whiskey...?

naahhh.

That's beautiful - I'm all verklempt:hug:

The Disney on Ice show will be at Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ at the end of the week. We have tickets for next weekend. Its easy to find and the tickets are much cheaper then the ones at the Meadowlands. Also, its a really small arena so there aren't any really bad seats. I think this is our 4th year and there are always empty seats.
How about a nice trip for mom and DD next weekend?

Hope your DD is feeling better soon!
