Pools

We have a split stay coming up in a week (POR and Beach Club) and I was wondering if anyone knows at what temperature they could close the resort pools at? (If they even do?) we are from New England, so my kids will swim in anything above 60 degrees. I have two pool days planned, so I’d hate for that to happen.

There have been days at a resort where I was in 4+ layers and the life guards were in coats - and not only were the pools still open, but there were people swimming! lol So I think you should be good! I’m not sure if there’s a set temperature where they’d close it, though. Enjoy!

Last year, a cold front came through overnight and the next day the high only got to 48 degrees by the early afternoon. The pool at Old Key West was open and my son was the only person swimming in it!

In passing, a few weeks ago a lifeguard mentioned that the pools stay open until the ambient temp drops to 45F, but I didn't ask for any context as to what that means exactly

Disney has closed and will close pools at all resorts if the temp gets below a certain point. We were there in Jan a few years ago and all resort pools were closed for like 3 days. They state it is for not only equipment sake, but also the safety of guests and staff.

So you should be safe while you are here.

They are heated to 82 degrees

Stormalong Bay is technically heated, but it's so big of course a lot of it is still cold. We've done mostly the hot tubs more than once, but it isn't the most comfortable pool when it's cold -- and going to the pirate slide is rough.

I don't think any part of Stormalong Bay was actually up to 82, which I would have liked. I would have stayed at that spot. We lasted like 20 minutes and left. But that was colder than what the weather should be next week. Next week might actually be tolerable.
