Pools reaching capacity?

I’m seeing reports on Facebook about some Disney resort pools reaching capacity with guests being put on a wait list.

So far, the only DVC resort I’ve seen is OKW (yesterday and today?) I’m guessing this is just the sandcastle feature pool, and not any quiet pools.

Fortunately most DVC resorts share pools with closed cash resorts. (BCV, BWV, Poly, AKV, VWL) so there are less guests competing for the current pool capacity.

Gosh, I hadn't even considered that!
We are staying at OKW over Christmas and new year. Hope pool capacity increases!

Honestly, makes sense that this is happening. With loungers removed and distancing, they are enforcing capacity.

I have heard Poly has hit capacity. Would not shock me to hear of other DVC as well. Definitely heard it of Pop and CSR.

I was surprised this DIDN’T happen at the BLT pool when I was there in July. That was one of the few places in all of WDW where I felt it was way too crowded.

How the heck has Poly hit capacity??? Only the villas are open and aren’t both pools opened? We are going Sunday and I’m going to be crazy mad if we reach capacity at beach club. Almost considering changing dates.

I feel like Disney should have limited resort rooms that they allowed to be booked if they are limiting capacity elsewhere. Why allow more ppl to book to stay there than the parks/pools etc can handle? I just think that allowing so many people to book and then limiting capacity into parks, so then people go to swim, then the pools are full, so people are mad that they spent that kind of money and can't enjoy the parks or the pools, is stupid. I'm fine with limiting capacity at the parks, but there needs to either be less people at the resorts or more things to funnel people to. I have park reservations for all my days next week, but I'm going to be ticked if I can't take a pool break or enjoy DS because all of those places are packed with the people who can't get into a park. Yes, I'm aware I booked during spring break and it's busy, but I don't recall ever hearing so much about pools being at capacity

Disney cannot restrict DVC bookings, legally.

But when many loungers are removed as part of capacity control, it does take a toll. Poly is always a madhouse.

I haven’t been catching more Facebook mentions of pool closures yesterday or today.
I wonder if last weekend was the perfect storm? It was a more pleasant/sunny weekend after a cool/cloudy week, plus parks at pass capacity.

Hope so!

Only DVC rooms are available so How did it reach capacity?

Most disney resort pools are way too small for the number of rooms/guests they're servicing. The quiet pools help but they've always had this issue from time to time. We stayed at Riverside once and the pools were all packed the whole time to where we didn't even bother.

As for Poly, there are a lot of DVC units and 2 (as usual) not-very-big pools. It is what it is...

Poly's pools are generally people soup. And that is with later park close times.

300+ units that can handle 5 people each and two smallish pools enforcing distancing, you can easily overwhelm them.

I'm at Kidani now and went swimming yesterday from around 11am - 1pm, and the pool was low-crowd. Had the hot tub to myself for a long time, no long waits for the slide, not too many people in or around the pool at all.

Later in the afternoon when people start returning from the parks and the pool parties get going is likely more crowded, but if my experience yesterday is any indication, I'd have a hard time imagining the pool reaching capacity.

So Disney cannot restrict non dvc owners from booking cash stays at dvc resorts?
Disney IS the owner of all the cash stays. They own a percentage if the DVC rooms at each resort which they use for cash sales through the WDW resort. They could, I suppose, opt to not sell those units but during the Covid reopening pretty much those were the resorts open so I’m guessing they didn’t restrict that because they needed to be able to sell rooms.
