Family gathering in August for a week...
DW,DD & I are inviting my SIL & BIL and families(10 of us) to
stay for a week on us but, my other SIL (who owns @ Marriot
around the corner from SSR) might want to come by for a
visit(something I'd like...so as to show off how much more
DVC is better than stinky 'ole Marriot...she's the jealous type!)
...so can she, my BIL and their son visit for a swim?
I believe Beach Club & the Animal K Villas are out...no visitors...
so, does anyone know if the other DVC resorts allow guests
of DVC owners to swim?

Thanks!

A very simple way to do this (if you aren't using DDP) is just to get room keys for them if you aren't over your room count.

For example, we often get a 2-bedroom for just the 3 of us...but we get keys for our day guests as well when we check in. And who knows, they may end up spending the night after a busy day at the pool!

Technically, Disney pools are for guests of the resort only (with hopping privledges extended to DVC members staying on points at some pools under conditions).

if staying at OKW and SSR - don't think you will have a problem.

sometimes the other pools will do a ID check.

both BWV and VWL have done this.

the only pool at OKW and SSR where this might happen are the main pools with the slides. Although I have never seem it. Since I like the quiet pools better - not a problem.

I have always heard that you should ask at the front desk. As long as the resort isn't at capacity, they are usually willing to allow a few guests at most of the resorts. As you noted, there are some places where it is not allowed. And if it is a particularly busy time of year, you are less likely to get the okay. But as a previous poster suggested, if you have enough occupancy available in your rooms, you can just add their names to a room and then there will be no question.

If you are thinking about adding your non-resort guests to your pool hopping bunch, that's a little much really. Only your guests who are staying with you on points are entitled to pool hop with you.

If you have the space available to add them to your reservation so they can get room ID and if you are doing the DDP, you will have to pay for them to be on the plan as well.

I didn't see anything where he said that they would be pool hopping. From the post, I read that he is wanting some of his family staying offsite to visit them at their DVC resort and he is asking if they may use the pool while visiting. If the pool is not too crowded, I doubt if the resort would have a problem with that. We had a couple that was staying offsite join us at OKW a couple years ago. The guys went golfing and us girls took the kids to the pool. We asked the front desk first and they had no problem with it. But they did say if the pool became crowded our guests would have to leave. That wasn't a problem since it was the first week of May there was hardly a person in sight at the pool.

Based on his signature block, he is staying at the BCV in August. He said he knew that AKV and BCV were out. So they would have to pool hop with all 13 of them to another pool at WDW.

Ooh, deductive reasoning at its best. Good catch!

So it seems outside of adding the names to your ressie, this would probably be an issue for most people. Especially at that time of the year. (I assume August will be a busy pool month.)

aDVCGuy, I empathize with your wanting to show off DVC to your SIL. I'm having exactly the same quandry trying to set up my own family gathering for next year. My SIL just doesn't get Disney and is so stubborn she will happily see her family ensconced offsite at a Westgate. (And probably want the rest of us to trek over there to see her pool. NOT!) I have visions of her fish children (4 of them) eager to jump into the HRS pool at SSR along with their cousins and go down the slide a few dozen times. But I know I'll have to tell them no. Especially if we go in June like SIL wants to. (I opted for October.)

Maybe the best way you can do it is to invite SIL over for a poolside drink but not a dip. She can take a tour of the place and visit you in your room. She just can't get in the pool. That should make her a bit envious.

BTW, I'm one of those Marriott owners too. They are hard to impress. Pretty much all the Marriotts in Orlando are very lush. DVC's small rooms and smaller dining tables will not wow a Marriott owner. It's all about location, transportation and [for me] accessibility. OKW's pools seem quaint by comparison to Grande Vista and Horizons. SAB is on par with Horizons. Cypress Harbour feels very much like OKW, but a lot cheaper and closer to Seaworld. So if the pools and rooms don't impress, what will is the short walk to EPCOT or 3 extra hours in the park when the weather cools and the crowds disperse.

My sister lives in Tampa. She, her DH and DS usually try to visit us for one day while we are at WDW and it averages out that they can do it every other trip we make. If it is a non-park day and we want to just hang out at a table with drinks by the pool while the kids swim, I have always asked the front desk who have graciously always said it was no problem. I have done this at WDW resorts and DVC resorts. If the front desk had declined my request, we would have simply found something else to do. I never thought about requesting additional keys for that one day, assuming we had extra space available. That is a great idea.
