During my recent ten day stay at BWV (I arrived on Thanksgiving Day) I was asked for Room Key I.D. to enter the pool area on a few different days. I have no problem with this as they are obviously trying to keep out guests from other hotels or visitors just passing through.

I noticed, also, that they have now put up a couple of temporary steel fences in the back of Luna Park where I used to cut through periodically on my way to the Swan/Dolphin hotels. You can still go around the longer way through the back, but again there were CM's posted there checking I.D.

I have no problem with tightened security, but I am curious as to what may have prompted these changes. :)

My understanding is that the fences go up during the times that pool hopping is not allowed. I believe that was the case over the long Thanksgiving weekend.

According to the BWV Recreational Manager (at the annual meeting), they do attempt to "police" the pool at other times as well. The CMs will ask people for Resort IDs if they have reason to believe that someone doesn't belong at the pool. As an example, she said that those with "green" towels or large bags are often challenged. Apparently, the Swan/Dolphin pool towels are green and the larger bags are often a signal that someone is not staying at the BWI/BWV hotel. Of course, DVC members are allowed if the pool is not at capacity. I know they don't catch everyone, but it is good to know that they are checking and asking people to leave if they don't belong.

We saw the "temp" fences you spoke of back in August 2001. I was told it was due to locals and other resort guests using the pool.

The fences were still up through December 7 more than a week after Thanksgiving. My initial thought was the pool hopping thing not being allowed over the holiday, however, besides the fences remaining, they check for I.D. even when you are strolling through fully dressed without bag or towel. I do not mind the strict I.D. check but they are definitely keeping any non BWV guests from even traveling through the area, not just using the pool.
