Pool Hopping??

POR and POFQ have nice pools--my 5yo enjoyed them a lot. The POR slide was a little steeper.

Thanks maryanne! I have a ?, how can I start one of those trip count down things? let me know thanks! :cheer2:

You can find out how to do a timer on the technical board....it's not that hard...good luck :D :flower:

Some resorts will ask to see your room key as you enter the pool deck to varify that you are staying at that resort. I have stayed at a good many resorts and it varies as to wether or not I get asked. It seems to depend on the time of year. The busier times of the year, many pools will have someone checking all ID's as you enter. The Yacht and Beach are very strict on this. This pool is among the more popular and can get VERY crowded!

If your staying at a Disney hotel you can easily pool hop as the key cards don't show which resort you are a guest at so In theory you could stay at the value resorts and use the pools at the deluxe.

Actually they do, as they are coded to each Resort. Those checking ID's at the pools are aware of this.

I didn't know that, thanks for the info. I've never seen them check anyone at all, Is the abuse of the system that bad in the peak season? Wristbands seems like the cheap/quick system to identify resort guests. I also noticed the sign at Boardwalk about not using the car park for Epcot/MGM so the car park - resort hopping must also be another problem.

The first 3 numbers on the resort ID are the resort code and the CM's know the code for the resort they are at. I've seen people "carded" at the BC/YC, BWV & WL pools. BC/YC all the time and spot checks at the others.

Don't try it at SAB- you will need to show your resort id and then they give you a wrist band!!

Funny but I've never been asked for ID at any pools and never been asked for my AP at checkin to confirm my AP resort discount. After reading how many of you are actually ID-ed at the pools and for discounts, I've come to realize that I must have a very honest face. :D Honestly, I always assumed that it just wasn't that important to WDW, they just want their guests to be happy with as little harrassment as possible. That would be something if an army of CMs went beachchair to beachchair, asking every guest for ID at every pool!

I've never been IDed either at the pool. I have seen plenty that have though. I've also never been asked for my AP at check in. At the pool there was a group that came over from the MK just to swim at the Poly. They sat right next to me so I heard them talk about not even staying onsite. Thankfully a lifeguard came over and found out they were not Poly guests and gave the riffraff the boot.

LOL...we've been visiting WDW so long, I recall when they used to ask for RESORT ID when you boarded a BUS!!! I guess way back when the resorts were all fairly new, and the properties were rapidly expanding, a favorite thing for the locals was to drive to a resort, park and hop a bus to a park, etc. Most every driver requested to see our resort ID, as we boarded the bus. Of course over time, too many complained about the "hassle" and this procedure was halted.

As someone else mentioned, when SAB was built, they immediately encountered numerous problems. The pool was overcrowded with pool hoppers, (many merely walking in through the international gateway, and hopping in the pool). We saw families with their suits on underneath their clothing, walking in from Epcot in droves! It was a mess, and not very enjoyable for paying/staying guests. Disney promptly began issuing wrist bands, and checking *(more diligently) room keys.

Even today, people continue to visit different resorts and swim *(or at least TRY to) in the pools. Aside from completely fencing these pools in, (barbed wire surrounding the top), and implementing a security check at the main/only entrance to the secured area...pool hopping is extremely difficult to prevent. :sad2:

I just don't see the need/desire to swim in a pool, which is not in the resort you have selected! It's like having a one-park/one-day pass to the MK...and attempting to SNEAK into the Animal Kingdom in the afternoon. :earboy2:
Or paying for one movie in a theater, and then SNEAKING into another for a FREE show! It's aptly called "theft of service" in the business industry. If you desire this level of service, and wish to swim in a pool other than the one you have selected...then you should MOVE and check-into the other property. Amenities, such as themed pools with slides, health clubs and room service features are specifically planned and associated with specific properties. The costs associated with these resorts, directly reflect these perks. :cloud9:

Some people tend to believe, because they are already ON-PROPERTY guests, and paying what they deem "premium prices" to stay on site...they are entitled to USE any facility at ANY resort. I'm happy whenever I see the CM's check ID's, and continue to maintain a sense of security/order at the respective pools. I believe the current fencing at SAB helps prevent a lot of abuse from prospective "hoppers" , entering from the EPCOT PARK area. I also recall the POLY as another resort which experienced tremendous problems with such violaters over the years. At least most here on this forum are clearly aware of the problems associated with POOL HOPPING, and respect the policies in place by Disney. :D

We have been asked for both and I don't think it means anyone has a dishonest face, it means they happened to be there during a time they were checking them. Some resorts check more than others, and they check more during peak times.

Yes Disney wants their guests to be happy and that certainly includes the guest that paid big bucks to stay at a resort and enjoy the pool without it being overcrowded.

A year or two ago, when we were staying at Port Orleans/Riverside, there was a very nice family at the pool enjoying themselves. We chatted, our kids visited a bit, they seemed very nice.

Turns out that they were staying off-site & packing the kids/pool stuff/gear into their rental car & using our resort pool without paying a dime for it. The utter gall - it felt like they were saying "yeah, we're stealing from you but we don't care if your room rates go up because of our theft of services because WE are happy."
The callous disregard that some have for the repercussions of their actions never ceases to amaze me.

I think if I ran into the same behavior today (& I don't care if the resort was value or moderate or deluxe), I would probably go find a lifeguard or a member of management to take care of the situation.

To me, pool-hopping is the same as shoplifting. It might be a "petty" crime, but just because you don't get caught doesn't make it right.

JMHO,
agnes!

Absolutely! :D And just think, Agnes...what these people are teaching those children they pack into the car to drive to WDW property and "sneak" into the pool area!! Disparaging...truly.

I absolutely agree. That's the worst part about any of this sort of behavior. Those who teach their kids the "me first" mentality is ok even if it involves petty theft, cheating, lying etc.

The OP's question has been answered about the rules for pool hopping at WDW resorts. Please do not turn this into a thread where other posters think they are being call liars, cheats and thieves! This is just not the right place for that type of responses.

Thanks - Have a Disney Day, and we hope you enjoy your stay at the (CyberMagicKingdom) happiest place on the web!

Okay........take a deep breath....

So....for another question.....what resorts can DVC guests pool-hop to? Is it only other DVC properties or is it any pool (of course, other than YC/BC & AKL pools)?

DVCers can hop to any pool except the ones you listed. A great perk for DVCers!

okay....so now I'm putting on my fire suit...... :firefight

I'm almost afraid to ask for being totally berated by people.....so, here goes....

We are renting points for our upcoming trip, we are not DVC members yet. That is why we are renting points this time around to check things out, etc.
I know I'm a guest of the person I rented from (although she was a stranger at first, we have become pretty good email buddies! - she is a stranger no longer!! - couldn't have asked for better!)

I know I've heard that our KTTW card will say DVC on it....will we get to pool hop...? :scared:

waiting....waiting...waiting... :bitelip:
