We are going next week to pick up our daughter from the college program. :cool1:

We are staying at AKL. But for the first 2nights I was out of points and we are staying at all star family suit

My hubby says he doesn't want to use that pool and wanted to pool hop to wilderness lodge.

So my question is. He will drive over. And when they stop you at the gate.
What do you tell the gate person.
That I am a DVC member and I am here to visit ?
How does that work?

Thanks
Amy

As a 4 year DVC owner, I've visited the Wilderness Lodge twice. I go to walk on the nature trail to the campground, and then take the boat back.
If I remember correctly, I show the guard at the booth my DVC card, and he will ask for photo ID. I don't remember if I mention the reason for my visit.
Bottom line, neither time have I had a problem.

And then, since all feature pools are now gated, you will scan your magic band and get denied.

If someone is staying on points, and pool hops to a permitted pool, why would entrance be denied?

I was just at WL in January. It was not gated then. Is it now? And I was at the boardwalk over Easter. And that wasn't gated either then.
Are they all gated since then?

Amy

SAB is gated. Are all the other pools gated now? I didn't think they were.

The gated pool story started last year, and supposedly the gate construction was supposed to start in November 2013. When I was at WDW this past December, I was at OKW, Beach Club Villas (already gated), VWL, Villas at Grand Floridian. Other than of course BCV I did not see any gate construction.
However, I did find a "news" item that the Hidden Springs pool at VWL was closed in October for gate construction.
Here's a thread about the subject: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3247661

This October or last October. I was there last October at the end of the month, and there was no gate, nor construction for a gate. LOL ;)

I was at wilderness lodge at end of January. And there was not a gate at either pool.

Only ones I know are sab and bay lake.

And I was at AKL in February. And that was not gated.

The gating issue isn't the main concern, one can't stay at a value and pool hop during that time regardless of physical access.

Thanks. I have my answer.
So the days we are at AKL using points we could pool hop

I thought you had to be staying on points to pool hop? Now I'm really confused LOL.

you are correct, you cannot be staying on cash (at the values) or a local with DVC membership and pool hop (based on the stated rules.)

certainly, if the pool is not busy and the lifeguards are feeling flexible, anyone "can" pool hop even if it's not technically allowed.

If someone is staying on points, and pool hops to a permitted pool, why would entrance be denied?

i'm guessing if the pool is at capacity:

Pool Hopping Information

When staying on your Membership at any Disney Vacation Club Resort at the Walt Disney World Resort, or Disney's Vero Beach Resort, you and any Guests staying with you are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that resort hotel. Please check with a host or hostess at the front desk of the resort you wish to visit before you go to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your current Key to the World card with your "DVC Member" designation on it to use the other resort hotel pools. Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, the leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas, and the pools at Disney's Art of Animation Resort. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected, you and any Guests staying with you may not pool hop during the following dates*:

May 23 - 26 (Fri - Mon)
June 28 - July 7 (Sat - Mon)
August 29 - September 1 (Fri - Mon)
November 24 - 29 (Mon - Sat)
Dec 20, 2014 - Jan. 4, 2015 (Sat - Sun)

*Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity.

You have to be staying on points at a DVC location plus some times and some locations are off limits. It seemed the OP was getting the impression they could PH from the value resort and that was all I was addressing, not trying to be comprehensive. In addition one needs to check subject to occupancy.

Duh!! I thought your post said "one can pool hop"... LOL I just re read it. ;)

Is pool hopping also allowed for people renting DVC points?

The week before Thanksgiving, I'm going to stay at BLT on rented points. I would like to pool hop to the Grand Floridian Villas beach pool.
