Hi, everyone. I remember reading that the official Disney policy was pool hopping was not allowed - this year, we are actually booking several resorts to stay at and this was one of the reasons.
BUT when we are at Animal Kingdom last December (2nd and 3rd week), we noticed the lifeguards at both pools never asked us for a key or ID.
Has this rule changed, or is it just not heavily enforced? Thanks!

Mostly they think guests will follow the rules posted at the resorts. But they will check from time to time, especially if they get the idea that someone who isn't staying at that resort is swimming there. December isn't a really busy time for swimming since it is cooler.

Stormalong Bay at BC/YC is the only pool where they consistently check for room keys at the pool. Lifeguards at the other pools check on an "as needed" basis. Sometimes they check if the pool is particularly crowded (especially at the Poly which gets a lot of pool hoppers due to its being on the monorail) or if they suspect someone isn't a resort guest (e.g. bragging loudly about using the pools even though they aren't staying at the hotel).

It depends on where you go. They are superstrict at many places, and even the new value resort (opening this month) has a gate around the pool. Only the guests of that hotel can open the gate. DVC members are the only ones allowed to pool hop, and even they have restrictions.
