Last summer, we pool hopped at BW. We thought that you inform the front desk and tell them that you are DVC members and will be using the pool. We were surprised that the CM at the front desk was clueless about pool hopping. What is the proper procedure? ....tell lifegaurd? ......just enter pool and wait until your asked?

Sounds to me like you followed procedure. Here's what is currently on the web site.

Pool-Hopping Information for 2004
You and any Guests staying with you at Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's BoardWalk Villas, The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, and Disney's Beach Club Villas are permitted to use other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World® Resort hotel pools (in addition to the resort hotel at which you are staying) if the resort hotel pools are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that resort hotel. Please check with a Host/Hostess at the Front Desk of the resort hotel you wish to visit to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your Walt Disney World® Resort ID card with your "DVC Member" designation on it to use the other pools. This offer is not available at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts.

Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected, Disney Vacation Club Members may not "pool hop" during the following dates*:

April 3 - 11, 2004
May 28 - 31, 2004
June 28 - July 4, 2004
November 22 - 28, 2004
December 18, 2004 - January 2, 2005

*Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity.

PAMOKW gave you the correct procedure BUT sometimes in life it just does not pay to ask. This is one of them. Just go and swim like you owned the place. By asking you may get someone that does not know which end is up and they will just say "no" rather than find out anything. Have a good swim at the pools you can go to of course.

What about people who are renting points and staying DVC? Are they allowed to pool hop as well? If all that's required is your room key with the DVC on it, people who are renting would have this exact same key. We are renting for the first time next year, and maybe being allowed to poolhop would entice us to perhaps buy :teeth:

I just booked a week at OKW in July, and we plan on pool hopping over to SSR. Are there any limits with SSR as it isn't mentioned in PamOKW's pool hopping rule.

I was just planning on jumping off the boat from OKW :boat: and walking over to the SSR pool with our DVC member card in hand and jumping in. Hope that plan won't get squashed!

Thanks,
S

If you rent points you are technically not entitled to the DVC perks. Only members and their guest (no cash transferred) are entitled to these. And guests don't get all of them. But it might say Member on your room key and then you can try. They sometimes require the Blue member card as well for the discounts and perks. I had heard that they are cutting back on putting member on your card if you are not a member.

So far the SSR pool has not been made off limits for pool hopping as of yet. So go and enjoy;)

I think the SSr pool will be open to pool hopping at least until early next year because the OKW pool will be closed for renovation and the slide.

Deb and Bill .... thanks for the reply!

I just became a DVC member myself (250 pts BWV) but for my most recent trip just over a month ago I rented points. I never asked for any special treatment, but they did put DVC member on my room card. When I went to restaurants that had DVC discounts they gave me the discount without me even asking for one. I did not pool hop, so I can't tell you what would have happened if I did, but it seems to me I got all the perks of a member by having the room card saying DVC member on it.
